I would say maybe early older adulthood.

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2020 23:41

No!!! It's only 4 years older than me. I'm barely middle aged!

Ingridla · 07/11/2020 23:41

No way

wellthatsunusual · 07/11/2020 23:42

No way, not at all.

MadameBlobby · 07/11/2020 23:42

No

SomeSmotheringDreams · 07/11/2020 23:42

No, not at all. I'd say 80s is elderly.

PanamaPattie · 07/11/2020 23:43

Elderly is 90+.

HunkyPunk · 07/11/2020 23:43

No. How can you be elderly when you're still of working age?

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 07/11/2020 23:43

No. Most people in first world countries have many years ahead of them at 60. Personally I consider 70+ elderly, but even then people are living very active lives! I think your 80’s is when a lot of people noticeably slow down nowadays.

SheepandCow · 07/11/2020 23:43

The pension service doesn't consider 60 elderly.

Oldbutstillgotit · 07/11/2020 23:44

I am 66. 60 is NOT elderly !

Gillian1980 · 07/11/2020 23:44

Nope.
I used to think that when I was younger.... now i definitely don’t think so!

katy1213 · 07/11/2020 23:44

No - but if you ask Mumsnetters what a 60+ woman wants for Christmas, it'll be bedsocks and jigsaws. Or possibly a tag to remind you when you forget your own name.

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 23:44

Why do you ask? If we don't die most of us will be 60 + for a long time anyway.

ShellsAndSunrises · 07/11/2020 23:45

It’d going to depend how old you are. We did this in a really early Sociology lesson. If I remember rightly, people older than 30 will likely say no, as they feel they’re approaching they age. People 20-30 would probably be indecisive and sway towards no, people under 20 would think yes. It’s all relative to how far away it is for you.

But here you’re also have bias, because answers are public - so you’re relying on enough people “breaking the current convention” and saying they do to make everyone feel safe being honest. You’ll get group think otherwise and people will just agree.

I’m just 30 and don’t think it’s elderly, but husbands parents are in their late 60s/mid 70s and while they’re in pretty good health so far; they do seem elderly. They live quite an elderly life, and despite their current health, I’d be worried about them if they got Covid.

redskittleorangeskittle · 07/11/2020 23:45

Most people are working at 60.

WorraLiberty · 07/11/2020 23:46

No but I would've done when I was younger because most ladies I knew in their 60s, had shampoo and sets/blue rinses!

It's amazing how times have changed and how young older people look now, even without surgery.

DahliaMacNamara · 07/11/2020 23:46

'Elderly' conjures up visions of frailty that aren't compatible with the modern sixty-something at all. Lots of people get to eighty without seeming especially elderly.

DanceWMe · 07/11/2020 23:48

I would consider 45 middle aged, 65+ a senior and 82+ elderly. Randomly specific numbers lol.
