Why don’t they just get some bloody aircon units for the bake off tent

Watching on catch up tonight and it’s sweltering in the tent and everyone is sweating and it’s ruining the food....

I thought that too. Or just do it somewhere other than the bloody tent!

doctorhamster · 07/11/2020 21:58

Because having stuff go wrong makes for more entertaining tv I suppose.

Herdwick · 07/11/2020 21:58

Coz that would be boring. I bet the producers pray for scorching hot days for the drama.

Bluntness100 · 07/11/2020 22:03

Because how dull would that be. Making them make ice cream cake in 35 degree heat makes better tv.

FlibblyFlobblyFloo · 07/11/2020 22:05

But some of them produced perfect bakes. Maybe it sorts the wheat from the chaff?

Sindragosan · 07/11/2020 22:08

Mobile aircon units are super noisy (or they used to be anyway) so they'd probably interfere with sound quality for filming.

CazM2012 · 07/11/2020 22:08

I believe the sides of the tent are open for a lot of the filming so air con wouldn’t make much difference anyway. Plus it’s much more entertaining when something falls over Blush

Came in to say this. It's a noise issue.

trashcanjunkie · 07/11/2020 22:10

I think it makes it boring and repetitive

Ducksurprise · 07/11/2020 22:11

Because it's funny to see cakes go wrong. And Peter's was brilliant in the same environment. Although I would have sent Dave home.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/11/2020 22:12

2020 is stressful enough. Give the poor bakers some aircon!

22Giraffes · 07/11/2020 22:31

Nothing to add except I miss Sandi Sad

lidoshuffle · 07/11/2020 22:36

Give them another hour for the Showstoppers too, and let them finish them properly rather than a rush messy job.

Blurp · 07/11/2020 22:39

I always think this in these kinds of programmes (same as the Sewing Bee, The Apprentice etc). Why not give them time to do it properly, at least some of the time? Sure, you could have a "speed week" where they have to complete things under time pressure, but it would be nice to see what they can do when they really have time to do it properly!
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/11/2020 22:45

Oh! I assumed someone had left carelessly their oven door open. Was not that the case?

Stillgoings · 07/11/2020 22:45

I think a studio building would be fine now. I don't care if it is a cute tent. I want functionality 😁

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/11/2020 22:48

They could give them some commercial grade blast chillers, instead of just domestic freezers. But as a pp said, things going wrong makes good tv.

StrawberrySquash · 07/11/2020 22:48

It's the timings that annoy me. How fast your bread proves is not a test of how good a Baker you are.

LizzieMacQueen · 07/11/2020 23:13

They must be allowed a little 'dressing' time on the showstoppers because the finished item sits on the end of a very clean work station when judging starts.

jambeforeclottedcream · 07/11/2020 23:18

Our house were saying that when we watched it too

mineofuselessinformation · 07/11/2020 23:22

Because air con units blow air and so are not approved of under coronavirus restrictions?

MrsWooster · 07/11/2020 23:22

Agree: the ‘false jeopardy’ of arbitrary /too short time limits and ridiculous heat etc is not what they’re there for-it’s supposed to be about cooking skill.

Aren’t they in a guaranteed covid free bubble?

Bit of sweat will add a tasty flavour for Paul to try and figure out
