@BruceAndNosh

We're watching Fox at the moment. They were talking a lot about electoral reform Really? The Electoral College system got Trump elected despite losing the popular vote.
I meant the voting process rather than the electoral college.

@MagicoRomantico

I love seeing Trump lose. Its my daily medicine, my weekly energy, my monthly inspiration and my yearly motivation. His loss is the only reason I'm still alive. I was born to love and enjoy the failure that he has achieved.
Why are you posting bot crap?

Because I love it. LOL

The whole world is happy tonight with the result.

Exhale at last.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/11/2020 22:59

From BBC News. The Ayrshire Daily News, which reports on the region of Scotland where Trump's Turnberry golf resort is located, is taking a rather different view of today's news out of the US.

"South Ayrshire Golf club owner loses 2020 presidential election,"readstheir witty headline.

Oh, thank God. Time for the giant toddler to clutch his blankie and go home.

@RedToothBrush I was just part way through reading your last post and I knew immediately it would be yours. I just wanted to say thanks to you and all the other posters for all the informative and well explained posts that even I, with very little knowledge of politics, can understand and get my head around why people vote the way they do. My 9 year old DS has been fascinated by this whole process and I've been able to break stuff down and explain to him when previously I had no clue myself and would look helplessly to DH to explain (who has also been impressed with my knowledge these last few days!) Just a heads up: very angry Twitter people are threatening to leave America due to "rigged election" and move "to England."

Bon chance.

I look forward to them finding out the delights of Priti Patel's Home Office and how they are not eligible to move here.
Zixxy · 07/11/2020 23:14

Many will be eligible to move to UK. But getting here in Covid times might be a problem.

Remember Covid? Now what is that I wonder?

StirlingFloss · 07/11/2020 23:15

Do people think we should keep the thread going / start a new one... reason being, tonight is not a neat ending to this. There will be more antics going on to discuss and no doubt more dramas coming from the WH...

What about MAKE AMERICA WHOLE AGAIN? or something slicker?

RedToothBrush, I'm sorry your profound and thoughtful post was followed immediately by my shallow witterings about whisky.

And yet, I feel it was not entirely un-apt.

Folks, I am happy to report back that double cream does not curdle, separate and shrink back from The Macallan, but the two diverse substances are happy to mingle and work seamlessly together to produce a tolerably good bevy.Grin

(Though I think I shall leave the proportions to the pros at Baileys. DIY didn't entirely hit the sweet spot.)

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 07/11/2020 23:19

Thank you so much for documenting this awful yet utterly competing chapter in our history everyone! I wish I could say it's been a joy but I can't lie- it's been bloody horrible, hasn't it!

Now, someone is going to have to step up to the plate and print out all these trump threads for posterity- of our grandchildren will dog it out of a university archive in the future to base their Masters dissertation on them. You just know this will happen.

The thing is, I know for a fact there are at least 72 further threads to go until the Trump era is officially over so maybe it ought to be printed in black and white to save on toner.

It can sit next to Amy Siskind's weekly list.

So happy for the world tonight!

Wherrsmaclickypen · 07/11/2020 23:22

RedToothBrush
thank you for such a considered reply. I wholly recognise this description. I am a 'middle class intellectual liberal' who is literally terrified of bible bashing, faith based anti-abortionist reactionaries and what they would wish for the world, but I do understand and respect the defending of their values. I also understand why 'socialism' is such a dirty word in the US, despite the poverty gap, all part of the American Dream. I like to think however that the common denominator is decency. It can be hard to articulate what decency looks like, but you can see it in a persons face, as well as their actions, and decency crosses the divide of all moderate views. For the rest of the world it is enough that decency has been restored today. It is the American people who now have to find their own way to a consensus and I hope and believe that decent Republicans will take up that challenge.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 23:23

Wittering about whiskey IS profound.

(Today I have been pimping cheap own brand gin to make it strawberry cheesecake flavour - or at least thats the ambition).
