Zixxy yes of course, I'm sure there's an email address for him out there.
It was just a moment in time watching him live, wonderful.

Trumpy is back 'home'. Pictures of him in the limousine driving by all the Biden supporters celebrating.

LarkDescending · 07/11/2020 21:46

BBC News Channel saying that indications from White House sources are that wiser heads are going to try to talk Trump into conceding over the next few days.

Apileofballyhoo · 07/11/2020 21:48

@Zixxy

I have just poured myself a Baileys with a tot of Whiskey (Jameson) on top cos I want to. hic. Great to have a reason to celebrate in these often dark times.

Good health everyone.

Good you used Jameson - I've heard it curdles with other whiskey but I've never tested for fear of wasting any!
Callardandbowser · 07/11/2020 21:48

Fantastic news!
Thanks for these threads. We always knew the whole thing was nuts and now everyone’s caught up!

It was perhaps inevitable it would end when Trump was on the golf course.
www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/11/07/it-was-perhaps-inevitable-it-would-end-when-trump-was-golf-course/

There have been a number of moments or comments over the past five years that by now serve as shorthands for aspects of President Trump’s time in office. The way “covfefe” serves as a shorthand for Trump’s use of Twitter, for example, or how “soon be down to zero” encapsulates his approach to the coronavirus pandemic.

Then there’s the golf. During the 2016 campaign, Trump insisted he would rarely, if ever, play golf as president. He’d simply be too busy, he assured voters, in part because he’d spent so long criticizing President Barack Obama’s recreation habits. Then Trump won and was inaugurated — and played golf incessantly.

By The Washington Post’s count, he’s likely played on at least 247 occasions, three-quarters of Obama’s total over twice as long a time in office. Of those 247 rounds, 195 occurred on either a Saturday or a Sunday. In fact, Trump’s played golf on almost exactly half of the weekend days that he has been in office, always at a club owned by his private company. (All but two of his rounds overall have similarly been at Trump Organization courses.) On an additional 36 weekend days, he has visited a Trump property without playing golf.

Given those numbers, you’ll be unsurprised to learn that Trump has visited a Trump Organization property on about 2 out of every 7 days he’s been president. That’s often on the weekends, but not always. During the summer, he has spent lengthy vacations at his club in New Jersey; over the holidays, he often decamps to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Even during the presidential campaign, he would often travel to Florida or Nevada for events — and stay at his properties in Miami or Las Vegas. Over his time in office, The Post has learned that the Trump Organization has billed the government for at least $2.5 million, including once billing the United States for a $3 glass of water.

We should therefore not have been surprised when, after five days of counting led to the determination Saturday morning that Trump had lost his bid for reelection, Trump was not at the White House to receive the news. He was, instead, at his golf course in Sterling, Va., a location he’s visited 97 times as president, on 7 percent of the days he’s been in office. The only places he has visited on more days are Mar-a-Lago and his club in Bedminster, N.J.

The man who said he wouldn’t play golf as president learned that he would no longer serve as president while he was playing golf. An almost Shakespearean coda.

But, then, where better to hear the news? After the race was called, a crowd quickly gathered around the White House to celebrate his loss. At the golf club he owns, though, the vibe was different. His paying customers were unlikely to taunt or chide him; he even stopped to take photos with a newly married bride.

A fitting moment in its own way, a quick glimpse of the life to which he’ll soon return.

The contrast between Obama's speech about the smooth transfer of power being essential etc (after Trump won) and this...display is almost comical.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 21:50

Thanks for the new happy and wonderful new thread @TheNorthWestPawsage .Love the title.

I was thinking about "Trump Thread 112, the Lame Fuck period" for the next one. 😆

GetTheDoorFrank · 07/11/2020 21:52

Im so so glad that biden has won it is a step back to being the united states again for all americans. Scotland is proud that democracy has won as nicola sturgeon tweeted earlier.

Apileofballyhoo · 07/11/2020 21:52

@Wherrsmaclickypen

As an aside, one of my takeaways from being immersed in CNN endlesslyfor72hours was the realisation that, the very minute it was declared for Biden, the gloves were off, following no doubt gritted-teeth restraint up until that point. For Brits, its still noticeable when commentators are nudging partisan, and the dawn of realisation that we were now seeing 4 years of payback by the media was absolutely delicious. 😬 (I did see some Fox News for balance but I could not suspend my disbelief for more than 60 seconds at a time )
We're watching Fox at the moment. They were talking a lot about electoral reform.
CaraDuneRedux · 07/11/2020 21:52

This is a scary, but fascinating read:
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/07/what-happens-donald-trump-lose-2020-election-refuses-step-down/

Basically, an outfit called the Transition Integrity Project, set up by a couple of academics, historian Nils Gilman and Georgetown Law Professor Rosa Brooks, have been war-gaming possible post-election scenarios where Trump refuses to step down. Bi-partisan, as far as I can tell: "It is understood members include two former governors, a former US cabinet minister, ex-chiefs of staff to a US president and vice president as well as retired members of the Pentagon and Congress – a sign of how seriously its work is taken."

There are various legal avenues Trump and his allies will probably pursue, plus the very real danger that he'll appeal to his supporters to take to the streets with guns.

There are quite a few interviews with senior Republicans (the decent wing of the party) both current and retired Senators and Congress members, plus members of the military - and they are worried. Not at a "panic now" level, but at a "there are some bad worst-case scenarios out there which we have to work out how to handle" level.

(Apologies, pay-walled, but the Telegraph does offer a free one month trial subscription.)

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 21:54

Apileofballyhoo

Jameson works very well with Baileys, but no other whiskey is allowed to cross our door!. Never heard of any other whiskey curdling the Baileys OMG!

Well deserved tonight I think for a celebration, and each to their own. All the best, agus ta se mahogany gaspipes. LOL.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/11/2020 21:54

I said back when the threads were in double figures instead of triple ones that this was the time I was really scared about: when he'd lost and was still in the White House.

But for now, for today, I am simply enjoying his defeat. I can't help it: it feels so good to see him on the other end of a huge arrow with "LOSER" written on it in twenty-foot-tall letters.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 21:55

@Zixxy

LBC reporting that Trump is going after the Electoral College WTAF?

For the faithless voters one presumes. But that is not permissable anymore I think via Supreme Court ruling. Anyone know? This is becoming ridiculous now.

This is not going to end soon is it?

What did I say? I'm not remotely surprised! Not worried about that in itself. It won't work.

I'm more worried about his one man wreaking ball in other areas to undermine stability. Its all about trying to delegitimise Biden and cause as much civil unrest as possible at this stage.

BruceAndNosh · 07/11/2020 21:58

We're watching Fox at the moment. They were talking a lot about electoral reform
Really? The Electoral College system got Trump elected despite losing the popular vote.

Catmaiden · 07/11/2020 21:58

Oh I fully expect some spectacular tantrums, when this sinks in.

PerkingFaintly · 07/11/2020 21:58

I've just been listening to the Hallelujah that you posted on the last thread, lionheart, while watching live footage of the celebrating crowds in the streets of American cities, and I'm absolutely gone now.

Sobbing and sobbing.

(So much that I posted on the wrong thread to start with!)

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 21:59

RedToothBrush

I know. Destabilising things is what might happen now. Constant needling at this or that to undermine the incumbent.

But we can only hope that Trump et al will be ignored for their shenanigans, as most people know what they are at.

Dignity in defeat is so sorely lacking, but it is a mirror on the four year term just the same.

Dreadful stuff.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/11/2020 22:00

DH said that Fox is referring to the people dancing in the streets as 'protesters'. Right, 'protesters' celebrating their candidate's victory. Okey dokey then.

BruceAndNosh · 07/11/2020 22:00

Actually for all the dancing in the streets, I have read any reports of real problems from Trump supporters.
Of course it's still daylight....

sippinonginnjuice · 07/11/2020 22:00

The mind boggles

Zixxy · 07/11/2020 22:04

Have to say the choice of music accompanying those celebrating is dire.

But it's great to see a bit of joy in the US of A at long last.

Thanksgiving will be good for many this month.

MagicoRomantico · 07/11/2020 22:05

It seemed so close at first, I was scared Trump was going to win. Can anyone answer if this is considered a resounding victory? I think I read Biden flipped all the states that Trump won from Hilary but Trump didn't flip any states.

Natsku · 07/11/2020 22:05

When I saw the news I immediately thought of you lot, and how you would be reacting right now. Such wonderful news at last.

Destinysdaughter · 07/11/2020 22:06

Haha this made me laugh!

lionheart · 07/11/2020 22:09

Oh Perking I love that song and so many covers of it.

But one of my strongest memories from the past four years was just after the last election when Kate McKinnon performed the song on SNL.

It seemed fitting then and now.
