Have I misunderstood how the US Gov't works? I thought that Biden's picks for top positions had to be approved by the Senate, which is Republican controlled still. If that's right, how the hell does AOC think that he's going to be able to put progressives in top positions, even if he wanted to?

Certain posts have to be ratified, others do not.

Biden's transition team is all his own, as are his key advisers
but statutory posts have to be ratified

and control of the Senate may not be total after the Georgia run off votes on Jan 6th
and Harris will then have the casting vote (currently its Pence)

Apileofballyhoo · 08/11/2020 13:05

All eyes on Georgia. At least we'll have a bit of a rest from staying glued to it though. I feel sorry for Georgians starting to campaign and get out the vote all over again. They must be exhausted already.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 08/11/2020 13:06

AOC has gone after the Lincoln Project too.

BruceAndNosh · 08/11/2020 13:12

Well Donald Junior seems to have worked out every possible way of creating a fraudulent mail in ballot, so expect so see lots of dodgy republican ones in the Senate run off...

Interesting take on Arizona

Biden mentioned Native Americans as he listed off the groups he received support from, and as things may play out in Arizona, that group could be the difference between him winning and losing the state’s electoral votes. Currently, Biden leads there by about 19,000 votes, but in the three counties that overlap the lands of the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe in northeastern Arizona, Biden edged out Trump by a little more than 22,000 votes. We’ll see where Arizona ends up as it has another 100,000 or so votes to count, but it’s possible that support among American Indian communities in Arizona might make the difference there.

Biden could be a great President by being an average person. Or by reducing the cult of the personality from the Presidency.

Arizona is McCain's home. Did some moderate Republicans not like Trump's attitude towards him?

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2020 13:28

I think McCain's wife came out in support of Biden

Lweji · 08/11/2020 13:29

She did.

PullTheBricksDown · 08/11/2020 13:33

Cindy McCain did indeed support Biden. Good for her in putting party loyalty aside to do what she saw as the right thing.

PerkingFaintly · 08/11/2020 13:38

It would certainly be a mistake for the Dems to act beholden in gratitude to Republicans who voted for them. Biden needs to make deals, but he shouldn't therefore become a Republican by proxy.

Republicans voted for Biden because their own party had elevated someone so abhorrent that they just couldn't vote for him. That was their failure. I can't see a case for rewarding Republicans for that failure.

BruceAndNosh · 08/11/2020 13:41

Anyone scrolled back over Randy Rainbows twitter feed?
At crucial points in the race he tweeted
I hereby claim Jake Gyllenhaal
I hereby claim, for sex purposes, the Commonwealth of Bradley Cooper

and a lot more besides

AcrossthePond55 · 08/11/2020 13:42

Morning all!! Ooooh, not so loud I have a bit of a sore head this morning. 😉😆

I actually had to pinch myself this morning to be sure it wasn't all a dream.

Lweji · 08/11/2020 13:45

Fox are discussing Biden's cabinet and the direction of the Democratic Party under Biden's direction.
Clear message to their former fave child.

Lweji · 08/11/2020 13:49

On a side note, and because we had discussions about storms. We're now into the Greek alphabet Sad - global warming for you - , and Fox presenter didn't know iota was a Greek letter. Well... Grin

Back to the Paris Agreement soon. 🤞🤞🤞

Pomegranatespompom · 08/11/2020 13:53

Trumps behaviour to McCain was truly awful, I’d hope there are enough decent people to make a stand against this regardless of political alliance. His wife was really clear about her views on the DT.

Roussette · 08/11/2020 14:02

Trump has totally lost it on Twitter. Why aren't his family or the GOP doing something?

4 tweets in quick succession saying the whole election is a fraud. And worse.

I always wondered what he might do should he lose, I laughed to myself that he might act like this, but assumed the party or family would sort him out. Obviously not.

user1471565182 · 08/11/2020 14:04

Arizona has a lot of people moving from california as well I believe. Lots of military there as well and they supported Biden over Trump by about 7%I seem to rememeber. I find it interesting that McCain clip thats gone viral, it didnt really have much comment at the time- not that McCain wasnt a decent man and right in what he said, but thats just how it should be and how we just expected people in power to behave back then.

TheOneTheOnlyPedroPony · 08/11/2020 14:06

I imagine he managed to get hold of his phone and barricaded himself in the loo whilst frantically tweeting before they got in and confiscated it again!!
user1471565182 · 08/11/2020 14:07

I dont think anybody has pointed out through this- if the Democratic party did 'steal the elction' it would probably be the one case in history of the sitting government being so useless that an opposition party fixed the election and not them

Roussette · 08/11/2020 14:09

Exactly.

user1471565182 · 08/11/2020 14:10

Actually ive found one positive thing about Trump, he didnt do that awful phoney claim to irish roots thing they all do since Kennedy and Biden is now revelling in.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 08/11/2020 14:11

or the GOP doing something?
seeing as they haven’t done anything to keep him in check for the last 4 years, I don’t think we should be surprised they’re doing nothing now. Just disappointed, yet again.
