Wow statement from WH staffer
'No ones willing to tell King Lear the truth' sounds as though he's having a meltdown.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 15:08

Ivanka has converted to Judaism, would that be an issue?

Destinysdaughter · 06/11/2020 15:09

Joe Biden has a long list of calls to make – and to field – today. But one of the most important conversations he will potentially have is with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

The two men have not spoken yet – a Biden aide said that would be premature, a McConnell adviser said it hasn’t happened – but they expect that call to be made later today.

And look for Biden to reach out to McConnell, who will likely play a key role in approving members of Biden's possible cabinet if Republicans continue to hold their majority, which even Democrats concede is likely.

For all the talk about when Biden and President Trump will speak – Biden will not initiate that call, an aide says – he will reach out to McConnell when the time is right to begin those conversations.

Biden and McConnell have a long relationship, serving together in the Senate for decades, but also working closely and cutting deals during the Obama administration.

“He will need that relationship more than ever now,” a friend of Biden’s said."

For McConnell’s part, he intends to take a remarkably cautious approach to Biden – given the sensitivity surrounding President Trump’s expected refusal to concede – but a person close to him said he will speak to Biden when the time is right and will be eager to do so.

Given the mess Trump is leaving its hard to argue against the importance of Biden having pre-existing relationships with key Republicans.

And how they handle this situation will also be important.

Surely Kamala would never be successful if she ran in 2024 against Ivanka? It would sadly come down to white versus black in a country that is still terribly racist.

As I mentioned upthread, the voting dynamic is changing in the US, and the country will be majority Black / Mixed race within 15 years. I predict cities like Philly, Detroit, Atlanta are not going back to red anytime soon and their suburbs will become even more Democrat as time goes on. Not sure how significantly this would impact on 2024 but fingers crossed.

One interviewee in CNN even suggested the anti-abortion supporters have an agenda to keep the population as white as possible, as they are so scared of the above.

Pittsburgh is having technical problems so the count is being delayed

Lweji · 06/11/2020 15:13

Biden may well end up with more than 300 EC votes. To Trump's 230ish.

Too hopeful now?

@MrsMigginsMate

A country that elected Barack Obama twice is not terribly racist. An electorate told by the so called progressive left that any black person elected to office is a form of moral revenge against whitey's original sin of being white may well get a bit hacked off. An electorate presented with a shit hot lawyer, with a long record of public service behind her, versus a seller of ugly handbags, with no record of public service and a considerable record of family corruption, should be encouraged to judge them both on their merits, not on their identities. The Democrats have to stop with the identity politics.
StirlingFloss · 06/11/2020 15:14

@Ninetyseventhirtyfive he has said (although not firmly committed) that he would step aside in 2024 to support his VP to run in his place, as an acknowledgement of his advancing age and as a way to secure Democrat confidence in him as their nominee. (Questions were raised about his age). He was then reported to want a Black woman for the job knowing she'd be running for the White House.

anon444877 · 06/11/2020 15:15

no I don't think that's even a serious goal, but if the GOP can go into the next election enforcing more restrictive qualifying standards for mail in ballots in any state where it's been close this time, it'll have been worth it for them even if it changes nothing in this election.

Ryan Struyk @ryanstruyk
PA Senate and House Republican leaders:

"The Pennsylvania General Assembly does not have and will not have a hand in choosing the state’s presidential electors or in deciding the outcome of the presidential election."

www.centredaily.com/opinion/article246527648.html
Pennsylvania lawmakers have no role to play in deciding the presidential election

We have said it many times and we will happily say it again: The Pennsylvania General Assembly does not have and will not have a hand in choosing the state’s presidential electors or in deciding the outcome of the presidential election.

To insinuate otherwise is to inappropriately set fear into the Pennsylvania electorate with an imaginary scenario not provided for anywhere in law — or in fact.

Pennsylvania law plainly says that the state’s electors are chosen only by the popular vote of the commonwealth’s voters

Nancydrawn · 06/11/2020 15:16

The video of dancing in the street in Philly makes me so very happy.

StirlingFloss · 06/11/2020 15:16

@BlueCatRedCat A country that elected Barack Obama twice is not terribly racist.

I can't agree with that statement. That's a bit like saying that Britain has no equality issues because they voted in Thatcher numerous times.

Biden looks set for 306.

Which is what Trump won with in 2016.

Trump is not the Republican party's guy. He's the alien that's bursting out of the Republican party's chest

Ive started referring to republicans and trump supporters as completely seperate when i talk about this

StirlingFloss · 06/11/2020 15:19

Trump is not the Republican party's guy. He's the alien that's bursting out of the Republican party's chest

Can see this point of view but don't they have to take some responsibility for enabling him? Now that trust in democracy is at stake?

Even though she carries the mantle of Daughter of Trump, I can't see Ivanka as a candidate, even a puppet one. She has the stage presence of rice pudding

Temperatures already rising. CNN reporting this statement from the Biden campaign: “As we said on July 19th, the American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”

"This election is not over. The false projection of Joe Biden as the winner is based on results in four states that are far from final," Trump campaign general counsel Matt Morgan said in a statement.

Ah the irony considering Trump's "victory" speech on Nov 4th

nauticant · 06/11/2020 15:24

Trump is not the Republican party's guy. He's the alien that's bursting out of the Republican party's chest.

The Republican party was just the host for him and his sponsors.

Yes, I agree with this.

The game of team Trump is to gain influence over a large group of people, radicalise them with mis/disinformation, and to create such a polarisation between them and the mainstream that they are effectively unreachable by any rational argument. The point of this is to have unaccountable power. I did wonder whether this was Trump's goal in 2016 and actually getting elected president was an unexpected prize.

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 15:24

Right. I'm off to deal with laundry again.

Everyone else make yerselves comfy, 'cos who knows what will happen this time.Grin
