190 million page views on the Gaurdian live blog.

Guardian even..

Placemarking. Going back to catch up now.

On Melania... I agree with a pp. She's only ever been in it for the money I think. She escaped Slovenia, she got her 'Einstein visa', she managed to bring her parents and sister over via chain migration (that door was firmly closed by Trump after that) and
she spent 6 months refusing to move into the WH until her pre-nup was re-negotiated. It was nothing to do with Barron and schooling.
And she apparently spends most of the time living with her parents and Barron, escaping the WH for lengths of time.

What she will do if Trump loses, is another matter altogether...

Lovely comment on Twitter with someone's 3 year old asking when is mummy going to stop watching "the map show"

I'll just put this here for the sake of posterity.

Donald’s tantrums remind me of Don Ameche in Trading Places. “Turn the machines back on! Turn the machines back on!!”

Igotjelly · 06/11/2020 10:39

I'm responsible for at least 50% of those guardian views 😳

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 10:42

I've already had my Lindsay Graham rant on thread 3, but he is an absolute snake in the grass. Can't believe he was re-elected in his senate race. Can't believe he is helping to whip up this shit storm against Joe Biden. Joe Biden is supposed to be one of his best friends!

Love this! Love the Map Show. I've told DH I really want to do a road trip of US swing states now that I know all the counties!

You know who else is pretty silent? Ivanka. Her brothers are tweeting trying to encourage trouble but she seems to be staying quiet.

MrsMigginsMate · 06/11/2020 10:46

Watching that first dance with Melania is so bizarre. The idea that the spouse of an elected politician means anything to anyone is so alien to me. In the UK politicians don't really do much in terms of showing them off or getting them involved. They will be holding their hand at events sometimes but it depends on the nature of the event. They don't seem anywhere near as prominent.

Do female politicians in America parade their husbands around this way? Such a strange concept, what do they even have to do with anything. Nobody voted for them so what are they doing being thrust front and centre?

I say this even about Michele Obama. She was clearly very invested in her "work" and used her position to try and make good changes, campaigning for kids health etc. She was apparently very likeable and a good person....but from a British perspective it was still very odd to have her on telly all the time for no other reason than being married to a bloke in the Whitehouse.

SabrinaThwaite · 06/11/2020 10:47

PA going to report more count in the next 90 minutes or so.

That's because she is complicit, but wants to run for president herself in 2024. Daddy said she could have it. She won't want to sully herself publicly.

Igotjelly me too!!! All night l kept desperately refreshing for news of Penn which was meant to be concluded last night😄🙈

Pomegranatespompom · 06/11/2020 10:50

The thought of another Trump in the Wh is despairing.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/11/2020 10:52

Agree entirely BlueCatRedCat - I think she is somewhat brighter than her brothers and knows that she should stay clear

Wouldn't be surprised to see her running though, not at all.

Interesting

Twitter’s policy around newsworthiness protects certain people – such as elected officials with more than 250,000 followers – from having their accounts suspended or banned for rule infractions which would otherwise lead to severe penalties.

That policy is what has led to the company muting, but not removing, 12 tweets and counting from the president over the past week, as he continues to break the social network’s rules about casting doubt on the democratic process.

But, Twitter has confirmed, the policy does not apply to former elected officials. They have to follow the same rules as everyone else, and if a tweet breaks those rules, it gets removed – with the account potentially following for regular offenders.

That will present Trump with a choice, if he is indeed removed from office in late January: either tone down the rhetoric, just as the humiliation bites hardest, or face the prospect of his hugely influential following being taken away from him.

Lweji · 06/11/2020 10:54

Sorry if posted before.

What happens if there is no clear result by December 14.

I'm expecting him to be banned and then launch his own version of Twitter called Trumper. Grin

Yes reckon Ivanka has one eye on the future too. She's the sort of woman that the US electorate might think is their kind of woman...she probably needs to have one more kid though!

Lweji · 06/11/2020 10:59

Normally she should have to try for Congress or the Senate, if not Governor, but daddy has shown that lack of previous political experience is not a problem.

It's always been a huge thing in the States. They have much more conservative family values than we do here,. FLOTUS has her own office, and is expected to actively participate in her husband's public life. Part of the hatred towards Hillary Clinton was her failure to be the cake baking wifey. She was too vocal and wanted to get involved in meaty policy making - not just the fluff stuff, like Michelle's eat your veg campaign. Clinton went on a tour of the world looking at other countries' health services, in order to push for change for female healthcare provision in the US. This was deemed to be overstepping her position, and she was vilified for it.

It's hugely misogynist actually. FLOTUS can't work (not really anyway), is expected to be ladylike and have policy ideas and an agenda, but not overstep the invisible line that makes it look like she's trying to run the country. She has to appeal to the conservative housewives and the liberal working women. Michelle Obama suffered no end of criticism from Fox News, and real hatred from some quarters (the infamous rumour started by Joan River that she is a trans woman and Barack's beard). I wonder whether Bill Clinton would have been expected to perfom, had Hillary been elected. And I wonder whether Kamala Harris' husband will have to do joint projects with Jill Biden, should Biden win?
