Where are all the small sizes?

First world problem alert!

But why is it always the 8-10 that sell out? It’s always the bigger sizes in the sales too? Are people getting smaller and shops not caught up?

The last few things I wanted to buy were all sold out in my size (10) and the smaller size (8) but available in every other size.
It’s annoying! Get your act together shops! Angry

Erm isn't that the nature of Sales. They discount whatever old stock they have left to make way for new.

Goingdooolally · 05/11/2020 18:13

@MaidenMotherCrone did you read my post?! Why is it always the small sizes that sell out, often very early! The large sizes often go in the sale because there’s less demand. So I think they need to make more if the small and less of the big! Wondered if it was just me who finds this annoying. It’s so widespread!

I think if you were larger than average you’d find it the same as well. I’m an 18-20 and always see loads of 12-16s in shops and hardly any bigger sizes. Presumably shops know most people are 12-16 so get loads of those in and fewer of the other sizes in case they can’t sell them.

1Morewineplease · 05/11/2020 18:31

I agree.. always 12-16 are left.

scissy · 05/11/2020 18:38

I find fewer places stock 8-10 in general. Also, as someone with short legs (so need petite or short length trousers) - these have only been available online for the past 2 years at least Sad. I was told when i asked it was because there's less demand for these sizes so shops no longer stock them (petite), presumably similar for having less of smaller regular sizes, I imagine they order fewer to begin with so they sell out faster.

ivfbeenbusy · 05/11/2020 18:41

It's not that those sizes are most popular it will be because actually we re all getting bigger so they make more sizes 12+ these days and there is less 8-10s around - economics of supply and demand and a rising obesity problem

But they’re not getting it right as they’re always OOS. I walk around M&S and it’s always the big sizes left! It does my head in!

Atleast you can buy clothes from shops, I have to order most of mine online as I need the extra length. There’s petite sections but hardly any with tall sections in any shops.

Good news was when it was fashionable to have ankles on show / half mask trousers I had loads that where normal length to fit in 😂🤣

Branleuse · 05/11/2020 19:06

its the law that it will always be the wrong size for you thats in the sale

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 05/11/2020 19:08

Perhaps you are looking for the sort of clothes that smaller people wear, more fitted, less forgiving, and if you were looking for a size 14 in a tummy controlling pair of trousers or a 16 in a tunic top you would find they were sold out in those sizes.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 05/11/2020 19:09

I love a bargain, but not raking through sale rails.
If I see something I like that isn't in my size, it will often be available on line.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 05/11/2020 19:09

I see the opposite to you all! I’m a 12 - 14 and it is always those sizes that are gone!

I guess we only remember when the size we wanted isn’t there.

MrsAvocet · 05/11/2020 19:14

Its all part of an evil conspiracy. When I was younger and very slim there were never any 6-8's in sales. Then when I was overweight it was all 8s and there was never a 14 to be seen. Now I'm fairly slim again the rails are full of 14s and the 10s have disappeared. I blame the Russians.

Bwlch · 05/11/2020 19:17

M&S only sell big sizes.

Goingdooolally · 05/11/2020 19:19

@Bwlch they sell 6,8,10 so not just big sizes.

@OrangeGinLemonFanta that is a very good point!

I think the opposite, my size 12 are never in stock, drives me up the wall.

FatGirlShrinking · 05/11/2020 19:25

I was a size 22 with long legs. Never had any luck in sales at all and general shopping was always a bugger too as the shops that went past 18 inevitably only had regular length not long.

Now I'm a size 18 and reducing so looking forward to being able to shop in normal stores and actually find something that fits.

But they don’t want to have left over stock to sell at reduced prices? You want them to over order your size so they will have it on sale?

ohnothisagain · 05/11/2020 19:31

Many shops seem to mainly stock size 14 and above, some size 12, and hardly anything below.

Goingdooolally · 05/11/2020 19:38

@Petportraits no not “over order” but order enough for demand. If winter stock sells out in October then they’ve obviously not ordered enough.

I’m a 6 and it’s pretty much impossible to find at any time 🤷‍♀️

mummyoneboy19 · 05/11/2020 19:43

What shops are you going to? Everywhere I go seems to have endless 8-10s and no 12-14s 🙄

Callipygion · 05/11/2020 19:51

I agree with mummyoneboy19 I can usually find loads of size 8/10 or the larger sizes 16+ when I’m looking for mine (12/14). I think it’s called Murphy’s Law or Sod’s Law or something! They never have the size I’m looking for. It was the same when I was shopping for school uniform for the kids, they’d have all the ages bar the ones I wanted!

AnnaFiveTowns · 05/11/2020 19:55

It's because the clothes that look good on smaller women will be popular with smaller women and therefore all sell out quickly leaving more bigger sizes in those particular items; and conversely the clothes that look good on bigger people will be snapped up by bigger people so when they look for their size they are all gone and only small sizes remain. So small.people think there's only big sizes left and bigger people think there's only ever small sizes left - if that makes sense?
