I know boring question but how long does it take roughly to iron a duvet, two pillow cases and a sheet with a steam iron and starch??

Large ironing board, steam generator iron, no starch though: 30 minutes roughly! Maybe bit more if sheets are very crumpled.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2020 09:50

No idea, as i dont use an iron for anything.

TheWernethWife · 05/11/2020 09:51

"Ironing bedding" - why?

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:51

I am asking because it is currently taking my cleaning lady SIX hours to iron bedding for three beds!! One is king size but it seems so long!

OP posts:
FiveShelties · 05/11/2020 09:51

How long does it take you OP?

Jemenfouscompletement · 05/11/2020 09:52

It would take me 12 minutes maximum but I run holiday lets it is part of my job and I'm very fast. No starch though.

MaskingForIt · 05/11/2020 09:52

About 5 years (and counting).

HedgehogintheFog · 05/11/2020 09:52

Too long. So I don't do it. You might be better shipping it off to a laundrette/ dropping it round at someone's where you pay by the item rather than the hour?

mrsdavegrohl · 05/11/2020 09:52

Ten minutes if that. Six hours is ridiculous

Sunnydaysstillhere · 05/11/2020 09:53

She is taking the piss op....
Tumble dry the cover and sheet and iron the pillow cases only.. I do ironing and would do 3 sets in less than an hour /hour and a half.

NannyR · 05/11/2020 09:53

Probably about 10-15mins ish. Just the duvet cover and two pillowcases. I've never used starch in my life!

TheDogsMother · 05/11/2020 09:53

About 15 minutes for a duvet cover and four pillow slips. Not to an exceptionally high standard though Grin

Scarlettpixie · 05/11/2020 09:53

Yabu to iron bedding but I certainly wouldn’t be paying someone 6 hours work to do them!!!

marmitecake · 05/11/2020 09:54

Op based on your update that's too long by far! 6 hours! So three times half an hour for me..

Jemenfouscompletement · 05/11/2020 09:54

6 hours seems very long, it takes me no more than 4 hours to do bedding for 8 king size and 14 single beds.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:55

I feel like I am being fleeced!

Seriously it was over six hours yesterday nearly seven hours, and not done to an especially high standard.

She stands there and watches a film on her phone with headphones in. Not sure what to do, as she is really nice, but really feel like she is taking advantage!

OP posts:
FiveShelties · 05/11/2020 09:56

Six hours, even I could do it faster than that. Properly 30 minutes, quick flick 15 minutes.

Prestel · 05/11/2020 09:57

Ironing bedding for three beds would take about 20mins at a guess. Though, as above, if you really want to know how long it takes with your iron, your way, with starch, just try it yourself and see.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:57

And 15.00 per hour too Confused

OP posts:
Gatehouse77 · 05/11/2020 09:59

6 hours is taking the piss.
I don't iron sheets (all fitted so street out the creases) but I can do a superking and 2 double duvets with 6 pillowcases in an hour with a regular steam iron. I only iron one side of the duvets if that makes a difference.

As to the question "Why?" I like having ironed bedding, so I do it.

namechanger0989 · 05/11/2020 09:59

6 hours @15 an hour. It would be cheaper to just buy new each time!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 05/11/2020 09:59

You’re paying £90 for someone to iron the bedding for 3 beds?!?!?!?

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 10:02

I know exactly!

OP posts:
Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 10:03

How do I tackle this? I have been really ill and in hospital, so I haven't been at home, and once back I was out of action in bed for a few weeks, now I am well again, this is what has been happening.

She is nice, what do I say?

Lowkeevslucille · 05/11/2020 10:06

You need a new cleaning lady.

She stands there and watches a film on her phone with headphones in
Picture any other work environment, you would just be shown the door for that! It's beyond CF.

People like her are the reason why stupid rules appear in handbook or job description - because with some people it has to be spelt out.
