Ironing bedding!

I know boring question but how long does it take roughly to iron a duvet, two pillow cases and a sheet with a steam iron and starch??

If all your linen is 100% cotton or linen (assume so as you are using starch), then it will take longer. But 6 hours IS taking the piss. I would say a couple of hours for three bed sets.

catwithflowers · 05/11/2020 11:30

About 15 minutes for me. I enjoy ironing and love they feeling of getting into newly washed and pressed sheets 😊

Chamomileteaplease · 05/11/2020 11:33

Not read everyone's answers but how can she iron while watching a film??? She would burn herself surely? You have to watch what you are doing.

She most certainly is not nice. She is a huge piss taker and you need to get rid.

RumJerrySailorRum · 05/11/2020 11:36

I iron my bedding, it's nicer!

Takes me about 15 mins, 4 pillowcases, king size flat sheet and king size duvet.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/11/2020 11:38

I know many people who iron while watching a show or film. It’s not that unusual.

I think part of the extra time taken is due to both starching and ironing. Starching things takes forever and you have to be extra careful not to scorch the item. Ironing also takes longer with 100% cotton or linen sheets. The wrinkles do not come out as easily as with a poly-cotton blend.

The other part may simply be dyslexia- not remember which part you’ve already done so you end up re-ironing same bit now and then. And the autism- generally slow processing speed and longer learning curve.

LooneyLovefood · 05/11/2020 11:42

Who irons bedding? When I realised that none of my clothes needed ironing I got rid of my iron when it broke. Never looked back. Irons just be reserved for work shirts and that's about it. Wash something, as soon as it's done you whack it on the line and when it's dry, fold it or hang it and put it away. Sorted.

Lucked · 05/11/2020 11:43

I agree it would be cheaper to outsource. You could get them washed, dried and ironed much cheaper. I do iron pillow cases so they feel smooth but just fold everything else as it comes out of the dryer. If the cover has got all twisted and creased in the dryer I iron it on the the bed after making it.

DryRoastPeanut · 05/11/2020 11:48

I always iron my bedding. King size bed. Four pillowcases. Takes me less than 30 minutes to iron duvet cover, flat sheet and pillowcases.

Same for the spare bed which is just a double with fitted sheets.

bettytaghetti · 05/11/2020 11:49

Others have already beaten me to the suggestion of sending to a local cleaners, but I checked our local one for prices anyway. This is for washing & ironing and they do collection and delivery too. London prices. Hope you feel better soon Op x

My bedding is 100%cotton and I use spray starch on the pillow cases.

MatildaTheCat · 05/11/2020 11:51

I’m like you and like my bedding ironed. We have superking duvet and six pillow cases. Takes me around 8 minutes to do the cover ( I iron it folded in a very specific way, pulled very tight to get creases out, wash on a cycle that has a 1200 spin rather than 1600 and tumble dried until slightly damp). Pillow cases about 1-2 minutes each.

I have a steam generating iron but don’t think the old one was much different.

And for context my cleaner does my whole house (5 bed) to a very high standard in 4 hours including changing beds.

Just get a proper cleaner. You’re paying proper cleaner money not some nice young girl who who has literally no idea money.

Get well soon.

Goldencurtain · 05/11/2020 11:52

Why the hell are you getting your bedding ironed?! That is next level bizarre.

Confused what's bizarre is being so puzzled about someone doing something a bit different than you.
Gobbycop · 05/11/2020 12:11

Ironing bedding is about as pointless as ironing underwear.

Why bother.

Happyheartlovelife · 05/11/2020 13:16

I love ironed bedding.

I also have a cleaning lady

It takes me roughly 20 mins with a steam iron to iron my king size. I'd say 90 mins as a Max for 3 beds

Happyheartlovelife · 05/11/2020 13:20

I also don't own a tumble dryer. So I have to iron my stuff regardless

FangsForTheMemory · 05/11/2020 13:27

It used to take me 45 minutes to iron a lined-dried pure cotton double duvet. So I don’t do it any more. I only iron the pillowcases.

ZaraW · 05/11/2020 13:29

I wouldn't iron bedding waste of time and certainly wouldn't pay for someone to do it.

AryaStarkWolf · 05/11/2020 13:33

I would never even dream of ironing bed clothes, life is too short........having said that 6 hours seems a ridiculous amount of time, she's definitely taking the piss

Lowkeevslucille · 05/11/2020 13:37

I would never even dream of ironing bed clothes, life is too short..

agreed

that's the whole point of paying someone else to do it Grin

haha true enough, although I'd see it as a waste of money :p They're never even very wrinkled anyway when they come out of the wash......but each to their own!
ifiwasascent · 05/11/2020 19:46

Takes me forever! they're white and show every crease

AstralStardust · 17/06/2024 01:42

I can iron properly both sides of each double sheet, duvet cover, and 4 pillow cases in 40 minutes, which includes setting up the ironing board and iron.
