To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

Like the way you had to sit and stew over that for 10 minutes by the way.

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 04:07

I have no idea Lord, why dont you ask them?

Furries · 05/11/2020 04:10

@LordLancington - you definitely have a dark sense of humour! Hopefully, no digging required at this point in time!

blisstwins · 05/11/2020 04:10

He is a menace to American democracy. He is misogynist. He is race-baits and supports white supremacists. I will be so glad when he is gone.

That said, there is a whole line of Buddhist thought around compassion even for those who perpetuate harm and I think you may be quite enlightened to have such feelings:beguineagain.com/what-the-buddha-and-adolf-hitler-taught-me-about-compassion/

Get a grip. The man's a self serving grade A creep.

I was partly replying in response to your comment about 'the relationship of ethnicity and religion', as it seemed you were suggesting that we can't criticise Islam due to its connection with certain ethnicities. My personal view is that bigotry is bigotry whoever the perpetrator and that it shouldn't be excused, much less in 'moderate' countries that wouldn't accept it from other ethnicities. If you throw a gay person off a building or mutilate a girl's genitalia it can't be justified because of your skin colour or religious beliefs IMO.

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 04:20

No I was referring to the fact we dont question if somebody laying into jews or gypseys is racist, because there is a cultural, ethnic and religious connection between them- the same is also true of a lot of Islam.

Attacking islamic women as 'looking like letter boxes' has nothing to do with their views on LGBT issues.

LordLancington · 05/11/2020 04:21

I don't doubt however that Trump is likely a racist, so maybe I've got my wires tangled, but I definitely see a trend of people being scared to criticise religious practices no matter how abhorrent they are. I don't really care what people beliefs are, more just about the actions they perpetrate.

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 04:24

I hate islam myself. I hate Judaism, I hate christianity. Im not however about to burn down a kosher butchers and claim its fine because 'its only a religion.

I said nothing about homosexuality.

LordLancington · 05/11/2020 04:35

Pretty much my sentiment. I hate almost all religion, but tbh it also scares me to think how some people might act if they thought there was no god (which is also nonsensical as a christian life surely isn't just a 'character reference to get into heaven' where you do the right things and the panel grant you residency).

It was a poster above who mentioned homosexuality, in the context that people criticise rump for being homophobic but also for criticising a homophobic religion. Tbh, I'm not convinced any 'Islamophobia' he might have is driven by a desire to protect gay people, but it got me thinking about how Islam treats gay people, which is something I've raised before and received hostile responses to.

LordLancington · 05/11/2020 04:36

Trump not rump

pigandmonkey · 05/11/2020 06:00

I read that Stanford did a study that estimated 30000 people got COVID and 700 died as a result of his rallies. Maybe he should not have campaigned so hard.

Flutter12 · 05/11/2020 06:01

I really really want Joe Biden (when trumps final challenge has been dismissed) to say
"You're fired Donald"

YESSS!!!!

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 05/11/2020 06:26

All these people being rude to you are the reason why people who were politically homeless or who were just thinking about voting trump actually voted for him and ended up being pro trump.

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 07:10

Why do people keep saying that? I dont give a monkeys how you try to justify your vote to yourself. I'll support who I want, I'll say what I want and I'll think what I want, you do the same thing.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/11/2020 07:12

Wow! No way! Confused

user1471565182 · 05/11/2020 07:12

Is it some piss poor attempt to stop us pointing out the endless lies, corruption, sexual violence and bigotry? you can hand me a million lost elections and I'll never stop

Roselilly36 · 05/11/2020 07:14

We won’t be seeing Trumps face in full smug mode anytime soon.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/11/2020 07:20

@Bitbusyattheminute

Ah, but he sounded so upset when he talked about the party they were going to have if he won. They were going to have jelly and ice cream and party games and everything. Big party. Very big. But then some sad people, very sad, came along and told lies and now the party's not going to happen after all.

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 05/11/2020 07:39

I don't wish anyone ill, however, some people do need to take a fall, Trump is one of them. His whole demeanour is that of someone who is very cocky, to big for his boots, can't get his point across without pissing people off etc, can't accept that he might loose etc.
Out of all the previous Presidents I remember I don't ever recall someone behaving like him, regardless of his views he just isn't conducting himself as a world leader should.
I do think he needs a defeat for some perspective, however I feel he may handle it very badly, again which is not how a world leader behave.

ZaraW · 05/11/2020 07:41

OP I'm not often lost for words but bloody hell what's wrong with you?
