Not to have a Covid test?

coronatest · 03/11/2020 22:32

So Saturday I came down with headache, shooting pains in my bones, and tiredness and stuffy nose, then yesterday I lost me taste and smell completely, even when I clear the mucous from my nose I can't smell anything ! I can taste if something is bitter, sweet or salty but can't taste the actual item or flavour but in terms of smell, NOTHING!!
Anyway today I've had really bad cheek bone sinus pain, I'm isolating of course based on my loss of taste and smell and I've not sent my children to school and we are planning on staying indoors away from everyone for 14 days But im scared and Anxious of doing a test, I'd have to order a home one anyway but I've heard so many theories of these tests, like Covid actually being on these swabs to deliberately spread it and make peoples current illness worse or that they just want our DNA because I can't understand why they need to do the throat and nose on the same swab just to see if we have it when we are told to wear masks as it's so contagious why not just test saliva ? We even have to clear our nose before doing it ? Why? If it's so contagious it will be in our mucous wouldn't it
I'm so anxious and don't trust that government really and think there is a hidden agenda. But I need to get the test done because I need to know if I've got it! What do others think of these tests ?

I would talk to your gp about your anxiety, on the phone of course.

Zoecarter · 03/11/2020 22:38

You are being massively unreasonable I think you need time off the internet.

PawPawNoodle · 03/11/2020 22:39

Where on earth have you read that?

Mascaramademehappy · 03/11/2020 22:40

Take the test.
There is no conspiracy- only people doing their best to get this over with.

pineapplepalmtree · 03/11/2020 22:42

you need a test and some therapy

Brighterthansunflowers · 03/11/2020 22:44

YABU for believing conspiracy bullshit, butif it’s causing you that much anxiety you should seek help

You should get tested so that any close contacts are traced and told to isolate.

Cookerhood · 03/11/2020 22:45

Please don't believe conspiracy theories, just get a test. They are sterile. They are developing saliva tests but they aren't widely available yet.

MitziK · 03/11/2020 22:45

Take a decongestant and do the test.

Snot makes it impossible to get a good sample. Swabbing two sites makes it more likely that a good sample will be obtained, particularly as the swab is being performed by somebody who doesn't have experience in taking them.

The other stuff is just conspiracy theory bollocks and best ignored as the trash it is.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/11/2020 22:47

Like others say, you need to see your gp about your anxiety.

Ive had loads of test due to work, all have been negative.

Greysparkles · 03/11/2020 22:48

I've heard so many theories of these tests, like Covid actually being on these swabs to deliberately spread it

I think you've have enough Internet for today Confused

nancy75 · 03/11/2020 22:48

Covid is the least of your worries, step away from the conspiracy theory sites for a while & think about what you’ve said - Covid on swabs to spread it? Come on

You needs to seek out how you are going to help yourself with your irrational fear and anxiety . Get a test it won’t give you Covid but you may have it and need to take the best course of action from there

YABU and should consider seeking medical help for your level of anxiety

Sparklesocks · 03/11/2020 22:49

As others have said I think you need to explore support for your anxiety.

If you are genuinely interested and not just looking for answers which endorse your theories you can read about how the test works and why they test saliva/mucus here: fullfact.org/health/coronavirus-pcr-test-accuracy/

As a general rule governments don’t like to kill off their citizens or incapacitate them with illness. What purpose would that serve? And if they are a nefarious evil superpower, how can you make money or profit from labour of dead or gravely ill people?

fourtysecondstreet · 03/11/2020 22:56

OP I’d go to your GP and see if he can prescribe some common sense

CorianderLord · 03/11/2020 22:57

They're totally fine. I was nervous, but really it's nothing - tickles your nose a bit (doesn't go any further than a Q tip if you put it up there and the throat ones a bit fiddly but doesn't hurt or make you sick.

It was absolutely not worth thinking about and I'm a proper nervous belly about medical stuff.

CorianderLord · 03/11/2020 22:57

Oh sorry you're anxious about Covid on the swabs. They looked spotless to me 🤷‍♀️

Singinghollybob · 03/11/2020 23:02

I agree with previous posters and suggest you seek some help

Heyahun · 03/11/2020 23:04

Fucking hell! 😩
