Not to have a Covid test?

coronatest · 03/11/2020 22:32

So Saturday I came down with headache, shooting pains in my bones, and tiredness and stuffy nose, then yesterday I lost me taste and smell completely, even when I clear the mucous from my nose I can't smell anything ! I can taste if something is bitter, sweet or salty but can't taste the actual item or flavour but in terms of smell, NOTHING!!
Anyway today I've had really bad cheek bone sinus pain, I'm isolating of course based on my loss of taste and smell and I've not sent my children to school and we are planning on staying indoors away from everyone for 14 days But im scared and Anxious of doing a test, I'd have to order a home one anyway but I've heard so many theories of these tests, like Covid actually being on these swabs to deliberately spread it and make peoples current illness worse or that they just want our DNA because I can't understand why they need to do the throat and nose on the same swab just to see if we have it when we are told to wear masks as it's so contagious why not just test saliva ? We even have to clear our nose before doing it ? Why? If it's so contagious it will be in our mucous wouldn't it
I'm so anxious and don't trust that government really and think there is a hidden agenda. But I need to get the test done because I need to know if I've got it! What do others think of these tests ?

As others have said, you really need to seek help from your gp ASAP. This isn't a normal line of thinking and this level of anxiety will affect your children

Lex345 · 03/11/2020 23:13

You dont have to have a test OP, but it might give you peace of mind to know you have it (or not!). You are isolating already. The vast majority of tests taken are negative; it is incredibly unlikely it is being spread deliberately on swabs. Re DNA, China are doing a massive DNA database-but even such an authoritarian state are saying they are doing it. I think you are giving our testing capacity more credit than it deserves to think it could pull it off!

It is possible to take just a throat swab or just a nasal swab-but these are nowhere near as accurate. They arent so bad. We have ours done every week. Its more a mild inconvenience now.

Anxiety is not necessarily rational and I do think it might be worth seeking some support with this-lots of people are feeling the effects of living through a pandemic and lockdown, you are not alone and services are starting to come into action.

I hope you feel better soon x

HomerRoberts · 03/11/2020 23:15

Have you got these ideas from somewhere OP?

Whatever the source it should be shut down!

DangerMouse17 · 03/11/2020 23:17

If you're anxious dont take the test OP. Just isolate for at least 14 days with the kids etc. If there are folks you've been in contact with, then tell them it's likely Covid and they can take precautions....

Agreed.
Whatamesssss · 03/11/2020 23:30

Maybe she got these ideas from MSM

www.standard.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-test-kits-contaminated-covid-19-a4403021.html

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Rotundandhappy · 03/11/2020 23:31

Jesus wept. The conspiracy theory....

OPTIMUMMY · 03/11/2020 23:33

I’ve had a test before and it was absolutely fine OP. Definitely no secret plan to infect us with it and it was negative. You need the test because you and your children could have unknowingly passed it on to others who could do the same. Track and trace/ test and protect (depending on where you are) can only work if people make sure they get tested when they have symptoms. Please just get tested so you can help stop the spread! Also agree that you should have a think about the sources you are getting your info from!

1Morewineplease · 03/11/2020 23:35

You're making excuses to have the test and you're clutching at the silliest of straws.
Get a grip and get it done.
Then see your GP.

1Morewineplease · 03/11/2020 23:36

Sorry... you're making excuses not to have the test.

Stompythedinosaur · 03/11/2020 23:38

You don't have to have the test as long as you and your household isolate for 14 days.

But the thoughts you are describing are not normal. Please tell your GP about them. There are services that can help.

MrsT777 · 03/11/2020 23:39

@user1473878824

Sorry OP but I’m going to be very harsh: this is incredibly fucking stupid.

I agree with PP that you need to speak to your GP about your anxiety. And paranoia.

How rude of you!
Derbee · 03/11/2020 23:41

Never use the internet again, OP. I don’t think it’s good for you.

Also, make sure you wear your tin foil hat if you do go

MrsT777 · 03/11/2020 23:41

@fourtysecondstreet

OP I’d go to your GP and see if he can prescribe some common sense
How rude!

Hardly helpful!
chickenyhead · 03/11/2020 23:43

OP i don't think magical thinking is helping your anxiety. The GP can help you get grounded.

The MSN article shows that the UK are checking imports of tests to ensure that they are covid free.

The UK government lack the capacity or storage capacity to accumulate DNA data on all tested citizens. And given the significant data breaches in recent history, they would probably accidentally leave the encryption code on the train.

If there was a big 'plan' it wouldn't have been such a shit show.

Rosebel · 03/11/2020 23:52

I have been tested a few times (once because I thought I had it and the other times were hospital visits).
I was anxious but thinking about it was far worse than doing it. And they were all negative so there's not some massive conspiracy to kill us all.

Chloemol · 04/11/2020 00:03

Take the test, and see your go about your anxiety. And stop reading stuff on SM

Vivana · 04/11/2020 00:34

I have covid tests done weekly ( care assistant) and think you should have a test as yabu

coronatest · 06/11/2020 19:02

I had a Covid test and it was positive.. stressed out as my 14 month old is showing symptoms.. seriously can't cope with that as she's got a high temp and cough

OP posts:
LadyPenelope68 · 06/11/2020 19:04

I think if prioritise getting medical help for your anxiety rather than a COVID test.

Noitjustwontdo · 06/11/2020 19:06

My brother’s GF works in the labs processing the tests and I can confirm there is no conspiracy. Covid is real, nobody is putting covid onto the swabs to give more people it- that’s just fucking bonkers.

You have a covid symptom so just get a test. It might not be that and if it’s negative you can go back to normal.

emilyfrost · 06/11/2020 19:08

You need help for your anxiety before you pass it on to your daughter. She’ll already be starting to pick up on your anxiety so you need to nip it in the bud before it has a major effect on her.

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/11/2020 19:12

You will be fine, as will your DC.

OP- I think I read the same news story where they accidentally gave some home tests to students in Birmingham which has already been used by mistake!! Major mistake.

Rest up; lots of fluid; paracetamol and calpol for DC; you’ll be fine.

Pollynextdoor · 06/11/2020 19:17

I think MN is really weird at the moment. Really changed demographic.
