To think people will expect fireworks to be let off on bonfire night.

Bought a few fireworks for Thursday night. Mainly garden type fireworks, not rockets. Meant to be lower noise.

We live in fairly large village and it’s been said that many dogs, cats, horses etc don’t like them and people have complained about them being let off.

Aibu to think people should expect them on actual bonfire night though?

I get that they are annoying on other nights other than bonfire night.. I do think that people should try and just do them on 5th November or NYE and proper advertised displays.

Don’t want to upset my neighbours!

Ah the idiots across the road are proving my point. Setting off fireworks in their front garden, next to the road and they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Probably set fire to their own house at this rare.

DressingGownofDoom · 05/11/2020 19:00

@Astella22

How are fireworks still legal in the uk, so many injuries every year go to a&e caused by them.
Most of the UK - not legal in Northern Ireland (we don't celebrate bonfire night anyway)

I do think idiots like that forgot that they are literally playing with explosives.

The fireworks have the safe distances for setting them off but people ignore that.

They shouldn’t be on sale to the general public. They may make pretty colours in the sky but they are deadly potentially in untrained hands.

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 19:16

The fireworks are finished- we do them early. They were fabulous. It's not my fault I have a big enough garden- jealous?

In actual fact I didn't criticise your grammar it was your spelling: get it right. I feel so sorry for someone whose life is so empty and banal that they get a kick out of insulting strangers. I'm off to finish a lovely night with my family- I hope you find a way to do the same.

NameChange84 · 05/11/2020 19:22

Nearly crashed my car on the way home tonight due to someone’s stray firework exploding right next to my car as I approached traffic lights in a residential area. It was blinding and loud! Have arrived home to lots of debris in my garden, on window sill etc (the wooden stick parts that “land”. It’s crazy here tonight.

I’m wondering if it was your neighbours that nearly blew my car up. Hopefully there’s not THAT many gormless idiots...

@Puffalicious
Glad you enjoyed yourself my dear.

Ooh your taking the piss again out of someone with dyslexia lovely aren't you. Again kind of proves my point that I feel you are a bad person and in turn this will rub off onto your poor children. That is called a opinion believe it or not I am allowed one as a disabled person. Which actually considering you appartley have a child with SEN makes you even worse taking the mick out of someone with a learning disability.

Honestly again do not feel sorry for me as I have made a lovely life and live in a lovely rural place and have a lovely life so no sweetheart not jealous at all.

You have a lovely evening my love and yes thankfully you are a stranger.

The bangs are incessant here. The last lot went on unabated for nearly 5 minutes. No break at all. They haven't stopped for more than 30 seconds for the past 3 hours and there have been fireworks every night for the past 2 weeks.

There's no need for it.

ilovesooty · 05/11/2020 19:34

@StepAwayFromGoogle

They're banned in Ireland. Can't wait till they're banned here. And god only knows why they have to bang and you can't just have a pretty light display instead.
Agreed.

*or not

LastTrainEast · 05/11/2020 19:47

I can't stand the noise these days, but I can't begrudge someone having them on the night. I am a bit fed up with all the other nights I must admit.

I do remember though that when I was young I loved fireworks.

Perhaps we could have more planned displays and limit gardens to those fireworks that were just pretty colors and no bang.

Sadly there are that many around unfortunately. Sad I was actually keeping an eye out tonight driving home for any stray fireworks. I literally have no faith in people anymore. Grin

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 19:59

It's not poor grammar it's poor spelling!!!!!! Christ on a bike. Use spell check so when you're combatant there'll be no reason for someone to criticise it.

If you hadn't been so insulting there would have been no criticism from me: own what you say.

You may well have a disability, I was simply pointing out that a learning disability is not a reason to be registered disabled. I do not wish your medical history!

Quote me where I called you ' my dear', because it isn't my style.

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 20:00

And my ASN child ( not SEN, thank you) has no learning disability, so I'll not need to face that, but thanks for your concern.

HintOfVintagePink · 05/11/2020 20:17

We specially chose ‘silent’ ones that are just colours and don’t go in the air because we have neighbours on both sides. We also checked with them first. I do understand about animals being afraid but we did want to give our children some happy memories. We had a chiminea and fairy lights and the fireworks lasted less than five minutes. I’m saddened at the anger on these firework threads. It’s been such a hard year for everyone. Can’t we all be a little more gentle on each other?

I bet there are.
Endless bangs of various sizes since it went dark here and if Facebook community groups are anything to go by there's also groups of people gathering to let them off. The comments are a mix of understandable irritation, angry keyboard warrior and a healthy dose of 'eeeeh you can't tell people what to do, it's just a bit of fun... what virus? I don't see anyone dying. Why should we ban bonfire night for a made up virus, just sayin'

@Puffalicious
Love you said your 3DC one who has SEN quote. So do not get on your high horse when I quote your exact word SEN back to you. If you choose to change that to ASN later through the thread fine but don't try to make out I am lying it is there for anyone to see.

As someone who is a parent with a child with any extra need or illness I think you are vile for even daring to tell someone whether they have enough of a disability to class them self as disabled. How about you worry about your own childs needs and not try to tell others whether you feel they are disabled or not. Get a grip.

I am not being aggressive you are just because you were caught out contradicting yourself you seem to have got very angry.

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 21:07

But if you're dyslexic your NOT disabled. It is a learning disability yes, but being disabled is a wholly different thing. It is just fact.

I am angry as I've been called an idiot/ dumb/ thick/ vile/ the cause of the world's problems/ a bad parent and a liar just for disagreeing with your opinion on fireworks. This is not in the spirit of MN and saddens me enormously. I think anyone would be angry. I'm now disengaging as you've cast aspersions on my son and that's crossing a line.

Goodnight.

@Puffalicious

Btw yes it can be classed as being disabled. Being disabled can be classed as having a physical or mental impairment. Dyslexia is classed as this if it causes you day to day problems. Equality act 2010 section 6 you can be classed as disabled.

So please do not make stuff up when you have no I idea what or what is not classed as being disabled.

I did not cast anything I simply called you out for having a go at me for saying you didn't say anything about SEN you clearly did. It is not my fault you made a mistake and can't own that.
