Or is it against the rules?

In spirit, I don’t see the issue (we won’t be near other humans)

In letter, I am not sure, is it allowed or not this time around to rent a self contained accommodation?

@Goatinthegarden

Of course not. It also seems a bit selfish to do extreme sports, like climbing, during a lockdown.

I mountain bike but didn’t go at all over the last lockdown because I accepted that we had a part to play in trying to keep the pressure off of the NHS....It has never happened yet, but there’s more likelihood of ending up in A&E throwing myself downhill on a bike than going for a little jog around the neighbourhood.

Exactly. And travelling unnecessarily puts the emergency services at risk if you have a crash. STAY AT HOME
TiersOfAClown · 01/11/2020 15:33

The sheer, unbridled smugness is suffocating. I'm going to have to step out for a bit....

Lcats · 01/11/2020 15:36

I cannot say I am surprised but I definitely don’t agree with all the fuming responses here. It was not explicitly mentioned in the government announcement I read yesterday. But of course I now saw a helpful government site link (thanks for all who posted it again) and I won’t go. If I wanted to act confused and go I wouldn’t have asked would I?!

Sounds like some people just really like enforcing rules by shouting at others. We are “fucked” by things like sending people back to care homes after being exposed in hospitals, eat out to help out, bubbles of 100s at secondaries, and especially students at every Uni huddling on site now (THE reason for the current wave and lockdown).
Not people going for walks or climbing outside...yes even when they stay is a self catering cottage for the night.

There really is no need for the level of aggression being shown to the op for asking this question. People can answer the question without abusing her.

Agreed.

There is a world of difference in my view between someone like the OP asking a question and taking the responses on board and those who think legislation doesn't apply to them and justify breaking the law as seen on other threads.

We had hundreds of threads like this back in March. Is it really so difficult to Google?

ZooKeeper19 · 01/11/2020 15:54

@Lcats go! If they are open, go. Just don't get yourself into pickle so you don't have to call the air ambulance and explain :P
Sport outdoors = essential sports as encouraged. The travel bit is a bit uncertain but assuming you don't hitchhike you'll be fine. Jealous.

If it's staying overnight she can't.

Meepmeeep · 01/11/2020 15:56

You can go, your sport is exempt from rules of course.

Cocklepops · 01/11/2020 15:59

@Lcats to be fair, Boris is not going to hold a briefing where he lists every single activity and what the law is in relation to them, is he?

The essential travel only/not staying away from home was really quite clear. The elite sport only part was clear. I honestly don’t understand your confusion.

ktp100 · 01/11/2020 16:00

I think you're confusing the words STAY, AT and HOME with the words GO, ON and HOLIDAY.

Stay at home, FFS.

Just like everyone else.

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 01/11/2020 16:00

I agree you can’t go.

I do think you’re allowed to drive for a walk this time though. That was one of the big unfairnesses last time - that everything had to be in walking distance of your house, which had a much greater impact on some that others. As long as you can go there and back in one day my reading is that it’s allowed.

RaspberryCoulis · 01/11/2020 16:01

I would.

Because I can assess my own risk and what you're proposing is very low risk. And because if a weekend away is what it takes to get you through a long ,shitty, lockdown winter, then that's OK with me.

If you go you'll have to come home again by Thursday

She can go climbing as it's outside, but not stay/rent another place to stay in.

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes

From the government's website

Ah so contrary to the ‘poor lickle me I don’t know the rulz and I know nuffink about Covid’ tone of your OP, you have quite a lot of issues around the issue. Anyone would think you’d posted JUST to be provocative WinkGrin

Read the Government page FFS.

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed. This includes holidays abroad and in the UK. It also means you cannot stay in a second home, if you own one,

Caroncanta · 01/11/2020 16:10

Jeezus. The op didn't say she WAS going. She asked if she COULD go. But fume away anyway if it makes the day better for some of you Hmm

Bluntness100 · 01/11/2020 16:13

This is just a massive pile on. Appalling.
