But the pubs will be shut so you can't get a lovely lunch whilst out

So it's going to be pack lunches again.

At least this time there won't be people complaining about people exercising in the Peak District like last time!

knackersknockersknickers · 02/11/2020 10:34

Op I was just saying the exact same thing - it's fab we can still drive for a walk but it's not the same without a cosy pub to hole up at the end.

Also don't think my kids will be motivated by a flask of soup in the same way as a cafe. Grr.

And if you're in Leeds and want a walking buddy pm me

IrmaFayLear · 02/11/2020 11:31

No pub lunches is very sad Sad and is the gammon and chips on the end of a stick to entice grumpy teens out of the house. I feel very sorry for pubs. The ones I’ve been in have tried so hard and I can’t imagine are big sources of outbreaks. Some people tar all hospitality venues with the same brush.

Those people who dislike walks: folk are all different. Bil and sil hate walks and in fact hate the countryside. Also said, “Why do you have all these second-hand things in your house?” And, the worst, “What’s a dog for ?” Shock

Keepingthingsinteresting · 02/11/2020 12:11

It's not against the law to travel to an outdoor public place. It's just the guidelines.
It's knowing the difference between the law and guidelines

Behaviour like this is one of the main reasons why we’re having a second lock down. Go for a walk from and to your house- driving to the countryside for a “nice walk” is not essential travel. Do the right thing and don’t be a selfish dick, it’s really not that difficult.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 02/11/2020 12:12

@WhatTheFuckHappenedHere

Why is everyone being such cunts to the OP?
Because she is being one- Loopholed at its best, “I’ll do what I want and damn everyone else”
chomalungma · 02/11/2020 12:34

Really. All i have said is that it's OK to go to the countryside for a walk.

OP posts:
chomalungma · 02/11/2020 12:38

The reason we are having a second lock down is poor track and trace. Lots of people in busy venues. It's not because of people in the countryside having walks

OP posts:
Keepingthingsinteresting · 02/11/2020 13:21

Track and trace is part of it, but not sticking to the rules ( whether they be law or guideline) is the real problem- again, selfish.

cantdothisnow1 · 02/11/2020 13:22

God the lockdown really brings out the worst in people doesn't it.

This thread is utterly depressing.

chomalungma · 02/11/2020 13:26

Make your mind up. Laws or guidelines.

OP posts:
chomalungma · 02/11/2020 13:28

Because I might just go by myself with no one else for a quiet walk in the countryside. About 20 minutes from here. Is that OK with you

OP posts:
hs0201 · 02/11/2020 13:58

That’s great then no worries about lockdown because at least I can just go for walks in the pissing down rain and wind with my 18 month old. The rest of the time we can sit indoors alone whilst my husband is gone for two day shifts.

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2020 14:10

@hs0201 my that sounds fun!!

I don’t know how those with young dcs cope. I went out to loads of groups, singing, soft play, just to keep me sane. I really feel for you

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2020 14:10

And this is a long time for littje kids not to socialise

VinylDetective · 02/11/2020 14:21

@Arosadra

And that exercise has to start and end at our home address.
How is this not going to happen, wherever you go?
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/11/2020 14:33

Track and trace is part of it, but not sticking to the rules ( whether they be law or guideline) is the real problem- again, selfish.

Who's 'rules', yours or the official ones from the government, who clearly say you can drive for exercise.

Presumably you have some evidence that behaviour like travelling to take outdoor exercise is one of the main reasons why we're having a second lockdown, as you'd look a complete tit calling people selfish dicks otherwise. So let's hear it.
YouKidsIsCrazy · 02/11/2020 14:56

I'm not supposed to go more then 5km from home.

Yeah thats right, other people and places exist! Hmm

Orcus · 02/11/2020 15:04

Nothing in the guidelines would prevent a person from doing exercise in eg their lunch hour at work VinylDetective. If your job is one that has to be done from a physical workplace, you'd be within your rights to go for a jog on your break, starting off at the workplace and finishing there. Arosadra has made up the bit about it needing to start and finish at one's home address. That's not in the guidance at all. We don't have the legislation yet of course, but as things stand that's just plain incorrect.
@Inkpaperstars
Running Past really is absolutely exemplary local history. I loved the stuff they did on Lewisham’s women’s suffrage campaigners in 2018 to celebrate Vote 100 - & their stuff on the Chiltonian biscuit company was really nice to read as my granny used to tell me about them when I was wee I was absolutely cheated I tell you, am certain that I was deprived of many biscuits in my childhood as a result of walking past an industrial estate on my way to & from school rather than a factory where one could not simply purchase biscuits BUT BAGS OF BROKEN ONES. The stretcher fences are an amazing mix of upcycling & incredibly poignant history. You’ve probably read lots of them have fallen into disrepair, but a couple of Councils have undertaken to preserve them. I find them (& feel free to laugh) a reassuring reminder of how resilient the city (& its inhabitants) can be; how good humans can [choose to] be to each other; & that good things can come out of/after even truly awful times.

@ScribblingPixie
We used to find lots of bits of Results Of Bomb Damage (nothing gruesome) in our garden when I was wee - think it’s finally all dug out now. My granddad was a builder & used to collect the Roman pottery fragments he found at work - in a time when this wasn’t considered anything other than eccentric by his colleagues, obviously: he read up as much as he could on them as well, plus the general history of Roman London. He was fascinated by - & read huge amounts of - history: he loved getting to literally explore layers of London’s past as he worked.
@MarieVanGoethem, I didn't understand what you mean by stretcher fences but have put that right - astonishing, and I do remember the ones that were on Dog Kennel Hill. That you would walk past them each day, not knowing the stories of the people who were carried on them. And I agree about needing to be reminded of resilience - I have been going over family stories of pre-antibiotic illnesses and wars that took chunks of time and life goals away. Very interesting about your grandfather's Roman pottery fragments too, layers of London below. A big dose of context does help at the moment.

Sockwomble · 02/11/2020 17:00

"Go for a walk from and to your house- driving to the countryside for a “nice walk” is not essential travel."

"Essential travel" is no longer in the guidelines. Keep up.

Chilledchablis · 02/11/2020 17:56

The problem is ...

For nice users of the countryside, everyone needs variety and we all miss holidays abroad

For the bad users, well we got just loads of first time countryside walkers and sadly too many of them littered, also dumped bags of trash, shat where they liked, camped and picnicked where they liked and left bbqs and tents (and more trash....), called mountain rescue because they didn’t know the walks.... it was a horrible experience The problem is ...

The bottom bullet point.

to tell people that you can go for walks in the countryside which is lovely
MarieVanGoethem · 02/11/2020 19:30

@ScribblingPixie
I assume the government repurposed the unused cardboard coffins in a rather less obvious way than they did the fences...
Family & local history research can both be good for a sense of... grounding, almost?

Ecosse · 02/11/2020 19:40

The basic position is that you should be staying at home at all times.

You can only leave home if you are a key worker, for essential goods (once a week) and for essential exercise if you absolutely cannot exercise at home (once per day for 1 hour at an absolute maximum).

Driving to the countryside for a walk is neither essential travel nor essential exercise.

Ideally, you should be either in your garden or using a facility like WiiFit. Everyone should minimise the time they spend outside their home as far as possible- a 30 minute walk nearby 3 or 4 times a week should be perfectly sufficient for most people.
