What to do with neighbours parcel?

CallieCat19 · 01/11/2020 09:04

So I took in a parcel last week for our neighbour a few doors down. I waited a few days to see if they would come and collect it but they didn’t. So I assumed maybe the courier didn’t leave them a note saying where it was so have tried to drop it of to them. Weve been round and knocked four times since. I know they are in as the lights are on and their car is outside but no one has answered the door. One time My partner knocked he said they were stood right in the kitchen so he could see them but they still ignored him knocking the door.
I tried again a few days ago and when no answer left a note saying we had their parcel and to please come and collect it but still nothing,
I’m not sure what to do at this point, keep trying? Send it back? Leave it outside their house?

I would take it round when you know they are there and shout through the letterbox that you can see them and have left the parcel at the door.

combatbarbie · 01/11/2020 19:33

Sod that, they are rude and entitled. I'd just call the courier or company that sent it and have it returned to sender.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/11/2020 19:34

I would just hold the bell down with a bit of duct tape when you know their in and leave the parcel outside

They're not going to ignore that Wink - and you will be merrily walking down the street

FrappuccinoFan · 01/11/2020 19:36

This is so rude.

I would personally bang loudly on the door, dump it outside (regardless of letter) and post a note through the door stating it has been left outside for them as they refused to collect it earlier or open the door to you. Also take a photo of it on their doorstep.

I can’t see why you’d be liable if anything happened to it - you have given them reasonable notice.

FrappuccinoFan · 01/11/2020 19:37

Regardless of weather*

MorganKitten · 01/11/2020 19:37

I got stuck with a parcel for 2 months, I let it outside their house in the end.

OhMsBeliever · 01/11/2020 19:38

Wait till they've gone out and it's chucking it with rain and then leave it on their doorstep. That'll teach them for ignoring you.

Yeah, I'm a meany. (Although I'm actually far too cowardly to do this myself and would just rant away in private about how ungrateful they are)

FrappuccinoFan · 01/11/2020 19:38

Ohh wait - if you can send it back to the retailer/courier, do so.

HelloDulling · 01/11/2020 19:40

Did you put a phone number on the note? Perhaps do that, ask them to text you and tell you what they want you to do.

thecatsarecrazy · 01/11/2020 19:41

Just leave it outside. That's all Amazon, royal mail Yodel etc do. Ring bell and go. You have tried.

Ginfordinner · 01/11/2020 19:47

It's probably a mumsnetter who never answers the door

VenusTiger · 01/11/2020 19:48

Either give them your phone number and ask them to call you/ ask other neighbours if they have a phone number for them, or, chuck it over the fence into their back garden.

StoneofDestiny · 01/11/2020 19:56

Serious weird behaviour.
OP - do you actually know these neighbours/have any previous relationship with them?
Can't think why anybody would ignore all these efforts by you to give them what is theirs.

peanacat · 01/11/2020 20:01

I had this - I had the parcel for three days and that was enough for me. I wrapped it in a bin bag to protect from rain, stuck it in a bush by her front door and posted a (fairly annoyed) note through her door telling her what I’d done. Was gone later the same day so I’m assuming she got it as it was slightly hidden. But it was easy to come to this decision as I don’t like her anyway 😂 Oh, and I refuse any other parcels for her now too

Derbee · 01/11/2020 20:04

Return to sender. Kills 2 birds with one stone - they don’t get their delivery, AND they get caught if they’re making a fraudulent claim that it never arrived. Win win

user1471538283 · 01/11/2020 21:32

Send it back without paying postage. Some neighbours are just cheeky. Next time refuse to take any parcels in. I've taken in parcel after parcel for old neighbiurs and had to take them round. They never once did it for me. So I just refused

DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 01/11/2020 23:04

It's been all day now @CallieCat19 so have they been to collect yet?

If not what are you going to do? There's been some great suggestions here. Though please, please don't put the parcel in a bag if you leave it. They don't deserve the consideration after ignoring your DH knocking AND the note. And the couriers note. And probably the text from the courier service telling them where the parcel was left.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/11/2020 23:18

Maybe the parcel is from a vindictive ex and it contains a toilet brush.

lalafafa · 01/11/2020 23:19

Very odd, some good suggestions op.

LouiseTrees · 01/11/2020 23:21

@CallieCat19

They may be isolating I’m not sure. I would have thought though that they would have shouted through that they were isolating and to leave it outside rather than just ignore us. That’s what we did when we had to isolate
Put it in their cardboard wheelie bin if it fits. Put a note through saying that’s what you did.
Ginfordinner · 01/11/2020 23:22

It seems to be the general thing that Amazon leave parcels in the cardboard wheelie bin (blue round here)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/11/2020 23:28

Find a great big cardboard box and address it to them, emblazoned with "Sony - Lucky Prize Winner!", "Grand First Prize" and similar, then get inside it yourself with their parcel and a potato sack full of glitter have your DH and one of his mates (ideally wearing yellow hi-viz jackets) place you in front of their door and ring the bell several times. They'll look out the window, see it and think "Ooh, that's not the Daniel O'Donnell CD we ordered!" and excitedly haul it inside. Then you burst out, murmur a bored-sounding in the style of Daniel O'D"Congratulations, I guess", chuck their parcel at them, empty the glitter everywhere by piercing the sack and swinging it around your head. Then quietly let yourself out.

It's the only language people like this understand.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/11/2020 23:29

strike-out fail!

crimsonclover · 01/11/2020 23:36

Keep it. They'll come for it eventually - and when they do, don't answer the door! If they approach you in the street say 'oh yes, I have it somewhere - I'll bring it over later', and then don't.

Elizaaa · 01/11/2020 23:55

Due to their rudeness I'd open it and see if it was something I wanted or could use. If not, I'd stick it on eBay or Facebook.
