What to do with neighbours parcel?

CallieCat19 · 01/11/2020 09:04

So I took in a parcel last week for our neighbour a few doors down. I waited a few days to see if they would come and collect it but they didn’t. So I assumed maybe the courier didn’t leave them a note saying where it was so have tried to drop it of to them. Weve been round and knocked four times since. I know they are in as the lights are on and their car is outside but no one has answered the door. One time My partner knocked he said they were stood right in the kitchen so he could see them but they still ignored him knocking the door.
I tried again a few days ago and when no answer left a note saying we had their parcel and to please come and collect it but still nothing,
I’m not sure what to do at this point, keep trying? Send it back? Leave it outside their house?

Just take it to the door, ring the bell and take a photo.

Halliehallie9828 · 01/11/2020 09:34

Leave it by there door and put a note through the door.

satnighttakeaway · 01/11/2020 09:36

If your partner could see them could he have shouted through the window, pointed to the parcel and left it at the door?

Sparkletastic · 01/11/2020 09:36

Wrap it in a bin bag, one last attempt to get them to answer doorbell, leave on doorstep if they fail to answer again.

ILoveYoga · 01/11/2020 09:37

Personally, as the neighbour is ignoring all your attempts to deliver the package, if there are markings in the package indicating where it has come from, I would contact them (phone but certainly follow up in email to have written record) that your neighbour is ignoring all attempts to deliver it, including leaving notes through their mail slot, so you would like for them (seller) to either Collect or send you a tracked shipping label so you can return it

Further, that if you don’t hear from them within 10 business data, you will mark it return to sender and drop off at post office.

Give a copy if this communication to your neighbour through their letter box.

I’d also go so far as putting a laminated notice next to your bell that you don’t accept packages for neighbour at house #

OP just send it back. I wouldn't even pay for postage, take it to the sorting office or something and say it was delivered to you in error. They can sort out returning to sender same as when you chuck envelopes back in the post box when they are wrongly delivered.
Can you take courier parcels to the Royal Mail? I wouldn't have thought they'd take it in.
Topseyt · 01/11/2020 09:40

Honestly, I really would no longer give any shits what happened to it if I had been ignored or taken advantage of for that long.

Wrap it up in a bin bag for waterproofing, leave it on their doorstep (taking a photo of it there) and put a note through saying that the parcel you have kept for X number of weeks is now outside.

HaleNo · 01/11/2020 09:41

My patience would be wearing thin.

I'd be tempted to put a note through the door saying it's getting returned to sender on x date if not collected. Is sender's address on the outside?

Missed that it was a courier delivery. 😣

mummyoneboy19 · 01/11/2020 09:46

Bang on the window hard, put parcel on the doorstep and leave - it’s their own fault if it gets stolen or ruined in the rain!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 01/11/2020 09:47

Put it in a plastic bag if you have one to protect against the weather. Go to the front door. Ring the bell. Have a note ready to pop through door saying “parcel on step”. Then put parcel on step, take a photo and leave them to it.

notsureofname · 01/11/2020 09:50

Put note through door with your phone number on and hopefully they will contact you.

PhilCornwall1 · 01/11/2020 09:50

Put it on the doorstep with a note through the door, then forget about it.

Put on the note that it's the last time you take a parcel for them, as you aren't a storage and delivery service.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 01/11/2020 09:51

I wouldn't have put as much effort in as you have @CallieCat19. I'd stick it in a bin liner and leave it on their doorstep and then not think about it again. Grin

YonderTweek · 01/11/2020 09:52

Our neighbour does this regularly. It's so annoying! My husband had a word with them and they started picking up their deliveries a lot more swiftly, but they've gone back to their old habits again. I generally refuse to take their parcels in but got tricked into it a while ago as the courier didn't say which number it was for and pointed at the wrong house. Grin They pretended they're not in as usual, but eventually we managed to take the box over. I am determined to not take any deliveries in for them but if it does happen again I will give them 24 hours to collect after which I'll dump it on their doorstep.

Dugsbollox · 01/11/2020 09:56

They're bloody rude. I'd put a note through the door saying you've left it. Last time you're taking something in for them, I guess?

Plonthy · 01/11/2020 09:57

Leave it on the bonnet of their car.

SingaporeSlinky · 01/11/2020 09:58

I don’t understand this. If I’ve ordered something, I clearly want it to arrive. Why wouldn’t they collect?
I’d keep the parcel but put another note through the door, and then when they finally collect it, ask them why they didn’t answer the door, when your DH saw them through the window. And I’d make it clear I won’t be accepting any parcels for them in future.
I’m surprised any couriers are doing this at the moment, none here are leaving parcels with neighbours.

JocelynSchitt · 01/11/2020 10:00

Oh definitely return to sender at this point. Makes me wonder if theyve put in a claim to say it hasnt been delivered.

AntiHop · 01/11/2020 10:01

Wtf is wrong with some people.

alliwanttodoiseatcarbs · 01/11/2020 10:01

I'd give two shits what happened to it at this point. I'd throw it over their fence or phone the company and tell them it hasn't been collected.

magicstar1 · 01/11/2020 10:04

Put one more note through saying I’ll put your parcel on your step at 11am. Then do just that. They’re acting strange

Halliehallie9828 · 01/11/2020 10:04

Same. All this talk about returning it or ringing up the company is way to much effort!

In a bag and leave on there door step.

Ellmau · 01/11/2020 10:06

If you hadn't seen them alive and well I'd be tempted to call the police for a welfare check. (Just bc lights are on doesn't mean they're OK.)

But as it is, leave on doorstep.

Sheknowsaboutme · 01/11/2020 10:08

Leave it on the doorstep. Not your problem
