What to do with neighbours parcel?

CallieCat19 · 01/11/2020 09:04

So I took in a parcel last week for our neighbour a few doors down. I waited a few days to see if they would come and collect it but they didn’t. So I assumed maybe the courier didn’t leave them a note saying where it was so have tried to drop it of to them. Weve been round and knocked four times since. I know they are in as the lights are on and their car is outside but no one has answered the door. One time My partner knocked he said they were stood right in the kitchen so he could see them but they still ignored him knocking the door.
I tried again a few days ago and when no answer left a note saying we had their parcel and to please come and collect it but still nothing,
I’m not sure what to do at this point, keep trying? Send it back? Leave it outside their house?

I wouldn’t leave it on the doorstop because if it goes missing the courier left it with you so you may be liable . Do they have a gate / fence that you could drop it over and take a photo if not ring the courier and send it back . This is why I now only take parcels for one of my neighbours as I’ve been left with other peoples crap in my hall for days on end .

SBTLove · 01/11/2020 11:46

Don’t take in parcels, my friend is a courier for a well known retailer and they aren’t allowed to leave with neighbours due to Covid, it’s either safe place or take it back.

hitchhikingghost · 01/11/2020 11:48

You’ve tried. Keep it, that’s one Christmas present sorted.

Georgeoftheinternet · 01/11/2020 11:49

Stamp on the parcel many times, kick it over their back gate.

Georgeoftheinternet · 01/11/2020 11:50

@Floralnomad not liable for anything. They didn’t pay for the ideal therefore not their issue.

howimetyourmother · 01/11/2020 11:53

Knock again if they don't answer put a note through tried several times to deliver and then put it in their recycle bin or whatever cover is nearby. Take a picture too.

planningaheadtoday · 01/11/2020 11:57

Wrap it in cling film so it doesn't get soggy.

Knock loudly when you know they are in/ lights on and car in.

Pop a note through the door to say parcel on doorstep

Leave on the mat

You've done your best.

thosetalesofunexpected · 01/11/2020 12:20

Hi Op just leave a letter for your next door neighbours ,to say you have got their parcel at your home, and for them to come over to your place to collect A.s.a.p (As soon as possible .
You can say in the letter ,the convient times you prefer for them to come to collect the parcel from your house too.

Barbthebuilder · 01/11/2020 13:27

Send them a thank you card "thanks for the lovely gift for our wedding anniversary, so thoughtful".

I'm not sure if you're serious, but this had me in creases!

MustardMitt · 01/11/2020 13:45

I’d go round once more, knock, stick a note through the door saying it’s on the doorstep.

Iloveacurry · 01/11/2020 13:50

If you can see them through the window, knock against the window, tell them you’re leaving it on their doorstep (and you won’t be taking any parcels in for them again!)

NetflixWatcher · 01/11/2020 13:53

It's yours now OP Wink

passmethewineplease · 01/11/2020 13:53

I hate when people do this. Providing they are well and able to come to the door I find it plain rude.

I took a parcel in for a house a few doors down. No thank you, didn’t come to get it, didn’t answer the door despite being in so I just left it on his doormat after ringing the bell.

I won’t be taking anything in again for him that’s for sure.

NetflixWatcher · 01/11/2020 13:55

They've probably reported it not been delivered and got a new one or a refund.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/11/2020 14:31

They might have got a refund to their bank card, but they're highly unlikely to have received a new one if they never answer their door, even when they're in. OP is probably more likely to receive a 'replacement' for their 'missing' original than they are.

Air horn poked through the letterbox and a couple of hundred blasts deployed until they come to the door? Or the big guns: an iPod on a stick playing Jedward's greatest 'hits' at full volume on a loop until they surrender? Don't forget ear defenders, a camping chair and a nice book for yourself.

MintyMabel · 01/11/2020 14:44

Bloody hell, forget all the weirdly worded emails, stick it in a bag and put it on the doorstep. Why must people over think this nonsense?

Don’t even stick it in a bag.
MintyMabel · 01/11/2020 18:43

Don’t even stick it in a bag.

I get where you are coming from, but it’s raining sideways here. I’d at least do this basic thing.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 01/11/2020 18:46

This is a classic example CF neighbours making their issue (delivery of parcel) your problem....

I would decide by the end of today /tomorrow, you'll just leave it on the doorstep ... (its what our postie does when he can see we're in but in the bath/asleep... And just shoves a note through to say).

Don't make theur rudeness your responsibility.

Presumably they've never asked you to be a poste restante service??

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 01/11/2020 18:49

Otherwise sane people seem to think nothing of doing this.

Had some completely OK neighbours in flats... They asked if we would pass letters on after their redirection ceased. We did this for a full year... I'd also written to them, asking them to supply us with some sticky addressed labels to make it quicker for us.... One 4 day period I forwarded 45 separate pieces of mail....

No word of thanks. I just stopped. Too much hassle.

JeezLouisePlease · 01/11/2020 18:52

Not sure if it’s already been suggested but I’d do this:

Day 1: put note through their door saying if they don’t collect in 24 hours you’ll leave it in their doorstep. Leave mobile number and photo note.

Day 2: if no answer or collection, put it in a bin bag to make it waterproof and put it in their doorstep. Put another bite through telling them the location and that you won’t take in any parcels in future.

JeezLouisePlease · 01/11/2020 18:52

Note not bite Hmm

Bargebill19 · 01/11/2020 18:57

You’ve popped a note in their door and knocked. So I would out the parcel away at home. (shed or somewhere safe). Forget about it. Next year when you find it again consider it a bonus. Unless it looks like it’s food - then shove it in a bin bag and leave it on their step.

Tiktaktoe · 01/11/2020 19:07

Is it small enough that you can carry it over? If so, when you saw them in the kitchen why did you not tjust drop it on their doorstep?
Don't get me wrong your neighbours are arseholes, but I would just want it out of my house.
