To think being over two hours late for a press conference...

is a bit of a cunty thing to do?

I completely understand that this is not an everyday occurrence, and it would be nice if things were absolutely in place before our glorious leader addressed the nation.

However, if I rocked up two and a half hours late to work it would not go unremarked on. I cannot simply choose to arrive two and a half hours late to a hairdressers appointment or to catch a flight.

Why say you will hold a briefing (which incidentally we weren't even expecting) at 4pm, then 5pm and then ever increasingly later? It seems really disrespectful to the public who are left waiting to know what will happen. Say it will be at 8pm and be done with it.

Not like he was having a long bath and full cooked brekkie though is it? They've been working on this. Maybe cut some slack.

Whatever he does people like you are going to complain the man cannot win

Well, no, because he's an inept, incompetent, arrogant buffoon who has somehow, God knows how, managed to scheme, bully, bribe and bluster his way to a position he's totally unfitted for.

As a result, more people than had to are going to suffer more, and they're going to die more, than they would have, if we'd had a more competent, agile, administration at the helm in this crisis.

Has he fuck. He was probably on the coke so he was alert enough to go on the TV to read whatever shit Dom had written.

The "leak" wasn't an accident. They've had this planned for days. They've used the same tactic again and again.

It was late because Boris has spent the last few hours fighting for his job and desperately trying to keep his party together. Number 10 leaked it in the the first place to prevent those who disagree in his party and the opposition having the opportunity to speak out on it publicly before he had his opportunity to make a big public statement.

It's not a slander.

All summer, the papers have mysterously got hold of the government's plans a day or two early. It's cleary, clearly deliberate.

And if you think Boris, with his background and wildly swinging personality, isn't on something... well, how naive are you?

Threads like this remind me there are some idiots on here.
If I had to present something at work 4 days early before I'd gathered all information and discussed a strategy with relevant people too right I might be delayed doesn't make me a cent, and I wonder what high powered roles all the swearing moaning people have on here that they know how it can be done better.

Who do you think provides the information to the media?

It wasn’t Boris, nor the Government in any official capacity.

This ‘leak’ was not accidental. This is literally how they’ve been testing policy since they got into government!

Tbh I think the spreadsheets at the start nearly made me die of boredom.

Report
ApplePlumPie · 31/10/2020 19:54

I suspect the delay would have been because of talks with unions.

Yep. Such a tight deadline would be tough to meet.

However, I would try to better manage the expectations of who the information was going to. I wouldn’t commit to a fixed time, but rather say I was hoping to deliver at 4, but to expect that to slip.

Who was it then? Santa Claus?

It was of course someone inside the government. But it would have had to be a credible government source for The Times to print it

And also about the financial package.

Where did it come from then?

Given that this has been the government's strategy the whole way through the pandemic why are you so sure it's different this time?

Who knows. It was a leak, happens all the time, they’ll look in to it as they always do and we will probably never know

Oh that’s so funny. As if they only ever use “credible” sources.

It may well have been from someone within the government. Could also have been some low level civil servant who was taking notes. But the fact remains, it did not come from the government in any official capacity

@wewillmeetagain

It's all been rushed because some twat keeps leaking everything to the press, so instead of leaving people worrying and speculating until Monday it's being rushed out today! Hardly Boris's fault!

Do you really think it has been leaked rather than the Government releasing it? I mean Robert Peston tweeted the whole thing before 5. If it really was a leak, it would be addressed and the culprit fired.

We've been told that the Cabinet/prime minister will only talk to certain parts of the press (probably following Dominic Cummings' orders). So if 'leaks' are printed in, eg the 'Telegraph', the 'Sun, Sky, etc, I tend to believe they're true.

So, when people talk about, '... having been forced by the unspeakable gutter press...', I'm not sure I believe that's true. Because the cabinet aren't leaking to the so-called 'gutter press'. They're leaking to their preferred outlets, so people can be softened up before Boris Johnson comes out with his latest offerings.

Exactly. Weird that it's always the same right-wing press that these "leaks" go to, isn't it?

You'd have to be an utter idiot to not realise it's a deliberate tactic.
