A couple,early thirties with a baby
And a single 37 year old woman.

The 37 year old gets told by someone who knows them all 'I just would never think of you in the same age bracket as Paul and Emma.'

Not me, just interested in others opinions as the 37 year old in this case was very offended.

Don't know really. How big is an age bracket?

MiaMarshmallows · 28/10/2020 23:15

She was offended as she took it as them seeing her as immature as she doesn't have the kids and the husband.
I'm not sure how I would feel personally.

I don't really see how this is something to be offended by.

user183684257424 · 28/10/2020 23:15

A bit tactless maybe, offensive not so much.

MudSmudge · 28/10/2020 23:15

Was that somehow implied?
Newkitchen123 · 28/10/2020 23:16

I can't work out what the issue is

NetflixWatcher · 28/10/2020 23:16

Umm. No. Why would you be offended by that. I'd be chuffed I look younger than them.

Barryisland · 28/10/2020 23:17

The world has gone mad. Everyone is offended by everything.

Karwomannghia · 28/10/2020 23:17

They’re not quite in the same age bracket as she’s older.
I know my single friend without kids looks way younger than me for that reason! She’s not more immature but she’s more carefree.

Oh! I thought it was the other way round.
Ginfordinner · 28/10/2020 23:19

I'm struggling to see the issue as well

MiaMarshmallows · 28/10/2020 23:21

She does look about 15 years younger than 37 so I am guessing it's a sore point. I am not joking or exaggerating when I say that either.

So many millions of variables and considerations that we have no idea about render this thread a complete waste of time, effort, Internet traffic and electricity

IAintentDead · 28/10/2020 23:25

Either side could be offended should they choose to be (as many seem to)

Often those without children are seen as younger - maybe because of their lifestyle

But it the person 'judging' has children, they may see the childless one as an 'old maid'

Who knows. Different people at different life stages behave differently.

I was definitely 'older' when my children were young and dependent on me for physical care than I was when they were older and more independent and I got some of my life as an adult rather than parent back

Aquamarine1029 · 28/10/2020 23:25

I don't get it. Confused

sorryforswearing · 28/10/2020 23:38

I assumed you meant they saw the single friend as older. If younger it’s a compliment.

PickAChew · 28/10/2020 23:39

I haven't the first fucking clue what you're going on about.

mynameiscalypso · 28/10/2020 23:41

I'm 37 and would be delighted to be considered in my early thirties. Also struggling to see what the issue is.

ClaireP20 · 28/10/2020 23:42

I would assume they meant the woman looked younger than the couple.

Thedogscollar · 28/10/2020 23:43

It's too late for this conundrum. I'm off to bedHmm

GabsAlot · 28/10/2020 23:46

i wouldnt see my dsis in the same age brcket as some of her friends some people are mature than others

Cocomarine · 28/10/2020 23:59

Perhaps they meant that Paul and Emma has turned dull as fuck, old before their time 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you really had to be there, to know if the commentator was making a sly dig at her immaturity or was just commenting neutrally on lifestyle.

CeibaTree · 29/10/2020 00:11

Sounds like more of a dig against Paul and Emma!

ViciousJackdaw · 29/10/2020 00:15

Perhaps they meant that Paul and Emma has turned dull as fuck, old before their time
That's what I thought too.

she took it as them seeing her as immature as she doesn't have the kids and the husband
Send her here to AIBU. She'll soon discover children and marriage are no guarantee of a mature outlook.

TeamLucille · 29/10/2020 00:19

I would have translated it as her looking much older, which never goes well.

Her looking younger? Surely that is a compliment for most people Confused

If she wants to be offended, it's a free country.
