Crap Flowers

Ordered some flowers for Dsis birthday from a popular online florist.

I was expecting beautiful roses and thistles in muted tones and instead got a petrol station special.

I emailed the company who’ve told me I got what I paid for. They clearly think I’m being unreasonable. I know I’m not, so over to you:

YABU: they’re beautiful substitutes and definitely look at least as glamorous as roses

YANBU: £50??!!! Bloody hell!

It looks like they’re used much cheaper flowers and the arrangement looks poorly put together, like 3 different bunches have been bungee together, one in front of the other. It all looks a bit amateur- not £50 worth at all.
I’ve used a small local florist and got a much nicer looking, well put together display for around £35.

It's like one of the memes

Expectations Vs reality

I would not be happy

Tessabelle1 · 28/10/2020 00:31

I'd guess the 2% who think YABU must work for Serenata!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/10/2020 00:31

I always use flying flowers. Highly recommend them. Haven't been disappointed yet. Just been on the website & the cottage garden bouquet is £25.99 & free UK delivery. The vintage rose is £22.99.
I have sent similar, recipients have been delighted & have taken photos to show me how lovely they look.

YANBU

Redbirds · 28/10/2020 00:35

I have received Serenata flowers and they were beautiful just like the photo so I wouldn't be too worried if you have sent them as a gift.
Your flowers look like I've done them with no training and no idea!
Did you send the photo as I'm disgusted by their response.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/10/2020 00:41

Big fan of Freddies Flowers - you don't get to choose a bouquet as such, but brilliant value. last for ages and get unusual flowers.
And you can choose cat friendly lily free.

MaidenMotherCrone · 28/10/2020 05:48

I've just added up the value of what I can see in the picture of your flowers. £12- £14 tops if bought from my local florist.

DC3Dakota · 28/10/2020 05:57

@CrapFlowers I would tell them you're going to contact your bank and do a chargeback. That'll kick them into shape! If they don't respond satisfactorily however then do exactly that!

Pixxie7 · 28/10/2020 06:21

I ordered some a flower card and it never arrived. To be fair I did get a refund but the recipients surprise was spoilt.would never do it again.

HintOfVintagePink · 28/10/2020 06:57

I’m curious why the reviews are only 3/5 too? Yanbu and no hedgerow I’ve ever seen has bubblegum pink gerberas.

I second Bloom and Wild for their post subscription. Bunches.co.uk is also lovely and slightly cheaper.

Lunariagal · 28/10/2020 07:12

@paperyfish
Very well summed up.

The only flower that actually made it into the sent bouquet is the lisianthus.

Unbelievable

MathsRocksMathsRocks · 28/10/2020 07:45

That's bad for the money. I've just paid £40 to a florist for a huge bunch of flowers, beautifully displayed, and a special age balloon, and that included delivery (which the florist had to try to do 3 times because the recipient was out - oddly enough for the 'special age' birthday! Grin

But I've been sent a photo of the flowers and the balloon. Granted, I didn't have anything in mind, but I spoke to the florist and she did a great job for the money and they look amazing!! I've put a review on her website because she was amazing at customer service too. But I think you get that with an independent florist - she values her business. I mean, she even emailed me every time she'd failed to deliver, but told me not to worry, and that she'd 'deliver them in my pyjamas later if I have to!'

So yes, OP, I'd be disappointed with that, especially for £50!

kowari · 28/10/2020 07:46

I've never paid more than a fiver for flowers, but definitely wouldn't have risked spending £50 on anything with a 3/5 rating!

grapewine · 28/10/2020 07:53

I'd be upset, too. That's nothing like the photo and crap customer service on top. Don't drop your complaint.

Noterday · 28/10/2020 07:56

I very nearly ordered flowers from here to send to someone this week. Paused just before clicking the checkout button to look at some online reviews, and found them to be terrible.

Another one not using serenata for flowers here. I looked for a local florist in the end. Similar prices, but hopefully much better quality and service.

wowfudge · 28/10/2020 07:57

I used to be a florist and would echo the advice upthread to order from a florist local to the recipient instead.

The quality of Flying Flowers is good, but I'd say they're a bit old fashioned.

DianaT1969 · 28/10/2020 08:21

Terrible. You were ripped off. I know never to buy from companies that run these national delivery services. You know they don't do the work, but must take a big commission. Always go online and order from a local florist. You'll see reviews and can get a feel of the company from their website and reviews. You can usually place an order by phone and pay by PayPal.

thetoughhaveleft · 28/10/2020 08:37

Serenata are rubbish. My dsis sent me some a while ago and they were half dead on arrival with about 6 stems in the bunch. She'd paid around £40 for them. I totally agree re using Google to locate a local florist. It amazes me that these online florists exist when it's so easy to source local florists.

CrapFlowers · 28/10/2020 08:45

@Turnedouttoes that’s absolutely shocking! I hope you got a refund and an apology.

I’m going to contact them again today and let them know that over 500 MNers think they’re being unreasonable and see if that prompts them into action.

Thanks to everyone who has given advice on what is actually in the bouquet that was received v what was ordered.

divergirl · 28/10/2020 09:00

I had flowers from a friend recently from Serenata. They looked a bit jaded when they arrived but I thought they would perk up. They never did and the flowers in bud never opened. I did complain but I needed to send them photos of the flowers on arrival which I didn't have. Very disappointed and wouldn't use them again.

VeganCow · 28/10/2020 09:00

Where are the thistles roses and white flowers? Tell them you dont care about the roses, it was the thistles and white flowers you were after, they havent a leg to stand on as they are clearly missing

Nanny0gg · 28/10/2020 09:06

@Dinocan

Disgraceful. Carnations?! I’d be furious.
Chrysanthemum
VenusStarr · 28/10/2020 09:31

I had an awful experience with this company a few years ago. Ordered a bouquet for my nan who was in a nursing home at the time for her birthday. They failed to deliver for 3 days but kept messaging me to tell me they'll try again. I had to message and call them to tell them NOT to deliver dead flowers to my grandmother. I actually can't recall the outcome other than they didn't deliver in the end but I don't remember getting my money back.

I hope you do get your money back OP.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 28/10/2020 09:33

That is a dreadful selection of flowers. They don’t work together at all. £7:99 from the petrol station might be ok but £50. That is criminal.
