Ordered some flowers for Dsis birthday from a popular online florist.

I was expecting beautiful roses and thistles in muted tones and instead got a petrol station special.

I emailed the company who’ve told me I got what I paid for. They clearly think I’m being unreasonable. I know I’m not, so over to you:

YABU: they’re beautiful substitutes and definitely look at least as glamorous as roses

YANBU: £50??!!! Bloody hell!

Yanbu that is absolutely outrageous!

user1471466920 · 27/10/2020 20:11

Nice enough but do look like a £5 bunch from the supermarket. I got boxed flowers sent from an online company once which looked dead and had holes in them. I was upset as I knew they had spoiled a nice surprise and wasted the sender’s money and I was embarrassed as they were deliberately to my work. The company claimed they were up to standard and would bloom eventually. I would avoid online flower companies at all costs after that and go to a local florist. Though Aldi flowers are great!

Delivered not deliberately - autocorrect strikes again

Nsky · 27/10/2020 20:14

Crap!
Always use bunches far cheaper and to quality, get great discounts too.
Had senerta flowers which were to pic

hesaidshesaidwhat · 27/10/2020 20:14

Oh dear OP they are really very poor and not worth £50. I think ordering flowers is very difficult because people normally just say how lovely they are as they know you have spent ££££ and don't want upset. I am not one of those people and have complained about M&S flowers each time my parents have sent them as they have arrived knocked about. They do normally replace but this time refused to post my pictures on their reviews. No more M&S for us.

Sounds like they are in breach of the Consumer Rights Act, look it up and quote it at them.

areallthenamesusedup · 27/10/2020 20:15

Awful.

  1. The flowers they have put in are much cheaper per stem than those in the picture.

  2. There are many less stems than the picture.

  3. There are at least 3 types of greenery in the picture, in yours there is just one.

There should be a complaints procedure on their website you must follow in the first instance.

As you have already complained, call or do a live chat with Citizens Advice. They have standard template letters on their website (but just looked and can't see one for on-line purchase arrived not as described....)

Here is the link:

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/get-more-help/if-you-need-more-help-about-a-consumer-issue/

You definitely have a case so go for it. You have nothing to lose! It is only an email.

If paid by credit card you can also do a credit card charge back. Call your bank....they will explain, but I think you may have to do some more complaining first....not sure...bank will explain.

Good luck!!! Go for it!

Iamthewombat · 27/10/2020 20:15

I’ve always had good experiences with M&S delivered flowers. They certainly wouldn’t pull a stunt like this!

Heyha · 27/10/2020 20:16

I know it's a cliche but I'd be mentioning trading standards in my next communication with them. Might not help much but it's a nicer job for the officer that picks up the report than they would usually get AND it might shake them up a bit. TS threat gets chucked about a lot but in this example I'd say they are definitely the wrong side of the line!€

Toilenstripes · 27/10/2020 20:17

Whoever chose those flowers and did the arrangement had no idea what they were doing!

FrolickingFannyBoots · 27/10/2020 20:17

Nothing like the photo at all. Shock

That is just a simple, hastily thought through arrangement. It does not resemble in the least what you have ordered. No roses, thistles just carnations. They are trying to fob you off.

Absolutely not worth £50. I would be livid!

Demand a refund. I don't see how they are can argue it- it's ' not as shown'. YADNU

Even flowers on mumsnet are better! [ flowers]

Catzpyjamas · 27/10/2020 20:18

YANBU. They are disgraceful.
Which has good advice on your rights regarding flowers purchased online.
I've received Bloom and Wild flowers a few times and they are always gorgeous and last for ages.

areallthenamesusedup · 27/10/2020 20:21

And another thing.....just been on their website....the images they use for their example bouquets are pretty s**t.

Done a few flower arranging courses in my time.....I would have failed had I presented a few of those to be honest....

If its any consolation no one reading this thread will ever touch them again! Smile

Dishwashersaurous · 27/10/2020 20:23

As an aside. Marks& Spencer flowers are surprisingly good for future reference.

Jojobythesea · 27/10/2020 20:24

I hate chrysanthemums and love what you picked as there are none. The reality however ..... aaaand. £50?!?!

HotDogHotDiggityDog · 27/10/2020 20:30

I've received a bunch of flowers from Serenata before and they were also terrible, delivered a day late and most were wilted. Would never use them again. Agree Bloom and Wild are usually good!

CrapFlowers · 27/10/2020 20:30

Didn’t even know you could still buy carnations outside of a garage forecourt

OP posts:
Ifonlyiweretaller · 27/10/2020 20:36

I've had a few flowers from Serenata as gifts - Never ever been impressed with them and would never use them myself. Trouble is, it's difficult to tell the person who bought them that their gift was not great, so they will continue to use Serenata!

savagebaggagemaster · 27/10/2020 20:39

Go on Twitter and tag the company with the two photos and outline your very reasonable complaint, then watch them rectify the situation ASAP! Grin

Paperyfish · 27/10/2020 20:54

I used to work for serenata back in 2005 and they weren’t good then either ( I needed the job)
Your picture and the stick photo only have purple Lisianthus in common. The chrysanthemums in the stock photo are white and yours are pink. They haven’t supplied roses but given you gerberas and spray carnations. You haven’t gotten the eryngium thistle- but seem to have purple Veronica instead. You got hard ruscus foliage instead of eucalyptus. This could look alright if arranged nicely. This isn’t. To substitute one thing would be ok I reckon, but to substitute three including the focal roses is not acceptable. It’s a completely different bunch and gerberas are a much lower value focal than roses ( £1.50 a stem where I work compared to £2.50-£3 a stem)
They haven’t supplied what you ordered. Not acceptable.

Nottherealslimshady · 27/10/2020 21:02

It's not what you paid for but I prefer it. Not 50 quid worth though! Probably 20, but you pay for them to do it for you and deliver it

FizzyPink · 27/10/2020 21:02

DP ordered me roses from there for Valentines Day this year. I think he spent about £50 on them and this is what arrived Angry

sophs29 · 27/10/2020 21:03

I had trouble with this company too! I ordered flowers for my mum at an extortionate price and when they arrived they were half dead, less than half the quantity stated and not even the same range of flowers. I complained and was told to send them a list of how many stems of each flower my mum has received. My mum is disabled and could not do this and as it was right in the middle of the lockdown I couldn't do it for her either. I told them this and they did send another bouquet out but to be honest these were also of poor quality.
Such a shame as it gives a bad impression of online florists.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 27/10/2020 21:07

They haven't even tried! The whole thing screams "This'll do!"

BlueThistles · 27/10/2020 21:21

You've been massively ripped off Flowers

prisscalledwanda · 27/10/2020 21:23

Under no circumstances are they equivalent. Money back or seek refund through credit card etc. Don't give up!
