AIBU to blow the new kitchen budget on a boiling tap

As above, really. It's a huge chunk of my budget, but it would be a timesaver and also no need for a kettle on the counter.

Does anyone have one? Is it worth it?

I do and wouldn't be without it! Love it.

Asdf12345 · 27/10/2020 16:46

We have them at work and they are constantly breaking down.

TheHighestSardine · 27/10/2020 16:47

Yeah, reliability is lousy.

LakieLady · 27/10/2020 16:47

I love them! I went on a training course at a place where they had one in they had one, and I seriously considered including the wonderfulness of the Quooker in my feedback.

I so want one. It would give me worktop space, where the kettle currently sits.

How much are they OP? I'd love one, but think I would be overruled on grounds of cost.

GroundAlmonds · 27/10/2020 16:48

How much are they? Sorry to be nosy but I didn’t realise they were budget busters and vaguely planned on getting one when we do the kitchen.

TheHighestSardine · 27/10/2020 16:48

If you're going to blow the budget, do it properly:

taxxigirl · 27/10/2020 16:49

The ones in my kitchen catalogue are anywhere from £500-700. I appreciate this isn't 'budget busting' for some, and it's a huge luxury. But the idea has transfixed me. Just....go to the kitchen.....instant coffee. No waiting. Wow!

We've got one. I was like you, thought it was an expensive toy. But it's amazing and I love it.

DO IT

smeerf · 27/10/2020 16:50

Mine was only £500, there was a little extra work for the electrician and plumber but I had them in for other things so the install cost was negliable. I love it, I need every bit of counter space possible so it was great to get rid of the kettle and it's really handy for warming baby bottles.

WoooImAGhost · 27/10/2020 16:51

I was tempted but checked out the average lifespan and decided against it. I saw a lot of reviews saying they'd broken just out of the warranty period.

TatianaBis · 27/10/2020 16:52

They take up a lot of room under the sink and they’re not that reliable.

A quick boiling kettle is fine for me.

Justgorgeous · 27/10/2020 16:53

I had one and I hated it, it never seemed to be boiling and it was expensive. This was 10 years ago but they may be better now.

MotherofTerriers · 27/10/2020 16:55

I've got one and I love it

^^This - they are a NIGHTMARE for breaking down and you have to keep replacing the filters. No idea how much that costs (obvs) but although I love the idea of them the reality is NOOO!!!!
Mumisnotmyonlyname · 27/10/2020 16:58

If you like the kitchen layout, do
It and spend the rest on doors. Or on paint.

FlyingFlamingo · 27/10/2020 16:58

I worry about the safety - what stops one of the dcs accidentally washing their hands with boiling water? Is there a safety mechanism built into it to stop this?

HOkieCOkie · 27/10/2020 17:00

My parents have one. It’s so worth it.

SE13Mummy · 27/10/2020 17:02

We have one and it's been fabulous for the six or so years we've had it. It's not a Quooker but a less expensive brand and we've never had any issues with it.

JeezLouisePlease · 27/10/2020 17:02

We thought about one but I’d rather be able to buy various funky kettles over the years and still not spend nearly as much. Too many sexy designs out there to never indulge Grin Plus the kettle is portable and I’ve heard the taps are prone to breaking down.

This is what puts me off too. I know someone who got a really bad burn from their tap and needed hospital treatment. To this day she's not quite sure how it happened, which presumably is the shock.
Mellonsprite · 27/10/2020 17:03

We have one at work and it spurts bits of ultra hot water over your hands as you are holding your cup. Having said that, when you drink a brew it’s never as hot as I’d like, but hotter than I want on my skin ITSWIM!

notdawn · 27/10/2020 17:05

Wouldn’t be without it - boiling a kettle now seems as old fashioned as dial up broadband.

Lovely cold water and instant boiling water.

Change out filter every 6 months and never had a problem.

pigsDOfly · 27/10/2020 17:05

£500-700 for, what is effectively, a kettle? And not a particularly reliable one from the sound of it.

lostguider · 27/10/2020 17:06

The quooker one is the only one that has water at 100 degrees others are at 99 degrees. We have a grohl one and love it. We have it on the otherside of the kitchen at the drinks station.

PlanDeRaccordement · 27/10/2020 17:07

No. Most of U.K. has very hard water. You know how you have to oust your kettle? Yes you will have the same problem with a boiling water tap but no way to oust it.
