How did you get famous? What for?
I'm incredibly curious and it's been slow tonight Smile

I can't help but laugh that some people think that being the local geriatric teacher, or GP's daughter, makes you famous!

Curioushorse · 27/10/2020 18:59

My brother is becoming increasingly famous in his field. He’s on television several times a week at the moment. He’s very eloquent and is a useful ‘expert’ to interview because he is particularly good at explaining things that the people specialising in those fields aren’t good at explaining.

I don’t know that it’s great. It means he finds it a bit difficult to relate to people- and they find it difficult to relate to him. He lives in a big house, but they currently send their kids to a state school. I think that’ll have to change soon- but I don’t quite know where the kids would fit in. So it’s not so much that he’s famous- it’s more that I think it’s a bit of a weird lifestyle for his kids.

I’m trying to be a bit vague about what he’s famous in- but I’ll just be generic and say journalism.

Whats a fluffer?! Do you mean runners? No. Definitely not that Smile I honestly would just say, and I am about to sound like one of the other m'netters who are vague about their partners 'hobbies' being outing BUT his job is unique enough, in that most people have heard of it, but don't know anyone that actually does it for a living. Anyway, Dp is definitely NOT famous, and is the least bothered person I know regarding all the actual famous people he meets. He often doesn't know who they are when he tells me, and I have to fill him in.
A fluffer is the person who keeps a guy hard in between porn scenes - I'm sure you're dad isn't a fluffer but who knows...? 🤫

I did read somewhere all ‘fluffers’ became unemployed with the invention of viagra if that answers your question 😁

A famous footballer and WAG are school parents. Footballer took younger child round a school for an open morning. As he was leaving he opened his car door and pranged the car door of a lady who was in her car. Footballer shouted “you know who I am, ask the school to sort it out” and drive off. The lady went into reception and said “some guy has dented my car door and driven off and he said I should know who he was but i don’t. I have no idea who he is.”

This little gem was doing the rounds of the Christmas school parent parties last year. I love it that it isn’t a “don’t you know who I am” story but has elevated up a level to “you know who I am” and then, still, a “err... no.”

Not at all famous but back in the day my dad worked in PR with some very famous household names. I remember a couple of incidents where I met a premiership footballer and one where a very well known actor called the house telephone. My mum answered and was all flustered Grin.

Hopefullynamechanged935 · 27/10/2020 19:44

Yep, I am. I have written many bestselling novels

ifiwasascent · 27/10/2020 19:58

I was on the chase and am always on the bloopers so yeah I'm famous 💅🏻

SimonJT · 27/10/2020 20:07

I was once interviewed as an industry expert on BBC news, I couldn’t be further from an industry expert 🤣 and I performed at heaven with my rugby team, thats as far as it goes with claims to fame.

I have a famous teapot eared neighbour, so sometimes get to meet other actors and artists.

I have a famous but not well known ex, having someone approach your partner for pictures etc is weird.

TammyTwoSawnson · 27/10/2020 20:09

Was briefly a few years ago. Got recognised when out a few times which was weird. Even weirder, was featured in an assembly in dc's school and his school had no idea my son was in their school. Poor DC. I'm an introvert so the whole thing wasn't for me!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 27/10/2020 20:09

I was on my local news in 1984

Skyliner001 · 27/10/2020 20:10

Don’t know anyone famous but on my way to Rio on British Airways business class I was mistaken for Kate (the Duchess). The crew kept coming over and asking me to confirm I am the duchess and asking for selfies. I have told them that I am not..We are slightly alike but I wouldn’t think that anyone would confuse us. I have therefore concluded that the crew was high or bored...

GuyFawkesDay · 27/10/2020 20:25

My dad presented TV programmes. Including some for kids.

That was fun, seeing your dad on telly at school 🤦‍♀️😱

Is he the utterly wonderful Dr Chris Smith of the Naked Scientist?? I love him - he's bloody marvellous. (If not, as you were...)

ChelseeDagger · 27/10/2020 20:32

A local soapstar is a school parent.
One of their children is always lording this over the other kids and claiming to live in a mansion.
Said mansion is a 4 bed detached on the local Barratt estate.

I don't know any properly famous people as you can probably tell.

cottonwoolbrain · 27/10/2020 20:34

Infamous more like Grin

I have been in national press quite a few times but mainly for nothing very exciting - I think I once made the New York Times in a very minor article.

Nope, keep him away from a fullmoon though.

Russell Tovey? A friend of mine saw him in Soho once and he was flirting with anything in trousers.

Rocky is very cute, but cooper and archie are my favourites.
Zoflorabore · 27/10/2020 21:34

My dad has his own wiki page. He’s not “famous” nationally but more locally. He’s been on television a lot since I was a kid and got to meet some v famous people and won several tv “shows”.

Separately, my mum and dad were at a posh hotel in the lakes about 20 years ago and met a couple. She much older than her partner and a famous soap star landlady. They got on great, swooped numbers and stayed in touch for a while. Once she phoned our house and I answered and was giddy with excitement Grin

They met up a few more times and then weren’t mentioned and I asked my mum and dad years later what happened and it turns out that they asked my mum and dad to wife swap God’s honest truth. I was so shocked! ( they said they didn’t and I hope they didnt )

namenamenamechangename · 27/10/2020 21:36

I'm not famous, but my husband is (kinda). Many of you will have seen him on the big screen multiple times...lots of action movies..😜

pinkstripeycat · 27/10/2020 21:41

It must be annoying being famous. In my town we have 2 ex-England rugby players. Mostly people ignore them as they are used to seeing them but sometimes they are mobbed in Waitrose and it looks like it would be quite frustrating.
