How did you get famous? What for?
I'm incredibly curious and it's been slow tonight Smile

OP posts:
EatPrayYoga · 27/10/2020 14:11

I'm not famous but I love these threads.

MillieVanilla · 27/10/2020 14:21

I'm mates with a famous person, does that count?
You may think it's all fancy being on TV but she's had a shit time. One minute you can be fave of all next minutes you are lucky to get an advert to pay the bills. She has had many unsuitable men who promised the world and delivered sweet FA. She is also constantly worried about aging and being swopped out for someone younger.
Ive moved in circles where I was known in those circles but not outside and that was enough for me. I'm now a very boring suburban mum and I would not swop with my mate for all the world.

Saz12 · 27/10/2020 14:25

Aha! #WeAreFronThePlabetDuplo is clearly either Calvin Harris or his sister, otherwise how would she know that?

I am Miss Marple.

SecretSpAD · 27/10/2020 14:32

My Dad was sort of famous when we were kids and was interviewed on TV several times, but no one knows who he is now!

I've got an actor friend who was in lots of high profile things in the 80's and 90's - he was in lots of west end shows and was always on pebble Mill at One! No-one really recognises him now as he looks totally different (not older, just different and not through plastic surgery or anything - just style wise....he's found some!). It's a bit bizarre going out with him because people who do recognise him tend to think he's gay (even when he's with his fiancee) and he loves attention so often does random tap dances and performances in the middle of costa or something. He's very funny and always performing and his fiancee (one of my best friends) is a really serious scientist - but they are very happy.

queenofkale · 27/10/2020 14:33

I'm famous on Instagram - but only in a specific food niche - but within that pretty well known and recognisable. But also locally to me - I have been recognised in the swimming pool (could not be more awkward) and a few times in posh farmers markets and other foodie places.

Sometimes it's lovely!

myhobbyisouting · 27/10/2020 14:39

@queenofkale do you make money from it?

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 14:39

its fairly well known.....hence how i knew and posted before this poster!

I've had my 15 minutes of fame. I went International briefly. It was great that I did lots of tv and radio and met (and kissed) a lot of famous people. The downside was loss of privacy. My phone line was tapped, I had crowds of paparazzi chasing me round the supermarket and hanging about outside my house. It was dazzling and horrible at the same time. Thankfully I have my life back now and a private life, but I miss being chauffeur driven to the tv studios.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 27/10/2020 14:50

@Alicenwonderland

My 19 year old son has quite a large Tick-Tock following and was in a KSI video. He gets recognised occasionally which is funny!
Wow KSI and my friends sons group are currently battling it out for this weeks #1!!
GrumpyHoonMain · 27/10/2020 14:56

My dad is famous within the Indo-Kenyan community because of some of the work he did from the 70s. He basically provided help with accounts, investments, and translation services and now most of those businessmen are multi-millionaires / billionaires and most still use him for investment advice. Our childhood was exhausting - people visiting us everyday at all hours, being recognised on the street and having my actions told to my parents immediately (the incident in Bend it like Beckham with people mistaking my short haired friend for a boyfriend happened so many times). I felt like my life was under constant scrutiny.

queenofkale · 27/10/2020 16:17

@myhobbyisouting well yea because it's also a business for me. But I do have an endorsement and a sponsorship because of my insta presence.

wewillmeetagain · 27/10/2020 16:42

My old drama teacher was in eastenders, late 80's

SabrinaThwaite · 27/10/2020 16:49

My neighbour has an Oscar, but it’s a secret.

MrsJBaptiste · 27/10/2020 16:55

My God, this is fame indeed! KSI and the Sidemen are what it's all about for teenage boys!

And I genuinely mean that although re-reading my post above it sounds a bit snide!

IsAnybodyListening · 27/10/2020 17:09

peboh Ha, no. He is not a porn star. Without being specific to what he does, he has his name on a tonne of credits for his contribution. He's not an actor, but meet's a lot of them!

I'm neither, I just remember her being on a thread a few years ago. I'm very uncool, so I wouldn't actually know him if he were stood in front of me, but I do remember his sister. Grin
StillCoughingandLaughing · 27/10/2020 17:21

A fluffer?

IsAnybodyListening · 27/10/2020 17:48

Whats a fluffer?! Do you mean runners? No. Definitely not that Smile I honestly would just say, and I am about to sound like one of the other m'netters who are vague about their partners 'hobbies' being outing BUT his job is unique enough, in that most people have heard of it, but don't know anyone that actually does it for a living. Anyway, Dp is definitely NOT famous, and is the least bothered person I know regarding all the actual famous people he meets. He often doesn't know who they are when he tells me, and I have to fill him in.

Youcunnyfunt · 27/10/2020 18:16
Grin I also have a link to KSI but I don't want to say exactly what because it's easily google-able.

I love trying to guess who people are from their posts. I have recognised people from real life from posting scenarios, so I totally understand why details are often changed and people name change.

Definitely not famous here but plenty of successful relatives. Granddad in the Who's Who for his country. Cousin in Forbes 30 Under 30 within the last few years. Mum famous in the UK in her industry (she likes sharing some of her fan emails with me!).

EscapeTheCastle · 27/10/2020 18:28

I wonder if famous folk have tons of great friends and it's dinner with Joan Collins and Christopher Biggins every week. I imagine actors having a ball on each production and collecting new pals each time.
Or is it a bit tougher than that?

ShatnersWig · 27/10/2020 18:33

Famous, no, certainly not nationally. Locally, I'm pretty well known though.

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 18:35

i just looked at KSI on tiktok....wow i was bored lol!

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 18:36

theres a long AMA thread about a poster who is in a successful rock group....lots of fun

still not sure who it was

Diverseduvet · 27/10/2020 18:45

I know lots of people who are well known in their field, including my dad. It was a pain as a child, embarrassing as a teenager and amusing as an adult

DillonPanthersTexas · 27/10/2020 18:48

Was flatmates with a couple of guys who went on to have very successful pro rugby careers. Going out for a drink with them was a bit surreal as random fans would just be stopping them for photos and autographs. While it was nice not having to pay to get into clubs or get other vip perks there were also some utterly obsessed women who would follow them everywhere. That was a bit scary.
