How did you get famous? What for?
I'm incredibly curious and it's been slow tonight Smile

As slightly unhinged wrote being a teacher makes you relatively well known if not famous in your locality.

I taught for 20+ years in a small town. If I’m out I usually see someone I taught - however they’ve changed whilst my appearance’t that much.

I have to ask for a clue if we have a conversation.

I often say hello to people who smile at me, my wife will say who’s that and I’ll say I haven't a clue but must have taught them.

Used to be a source of embarrassment for my children.

It does mean you have to behave!

My husband is good friends with a famous grime artist. I still find it a bit strange as they are complete opposites! But yeah he is lovely, his mum gave us a load of toys for our kids when we went round once and we take them round with our puppy to play in his garden and have cups of tea in the summer 😂

NotCaroleMiddletonHoNo · 27/10/2020 08:59

My DD is famous because of her husband’s job and family.

My stepdad is a retired teacher. A few years ago we went to this veggie cafe for a meal and our waiter turned out to be one of his former pupils from the ‘80s. It was hilarious.

My niece is married to the cousin of a famous comedian. The cousins are very close so he is often about. He can be a bit arrogant at times but he's ok.

peachgreen · 27/10/2020 09:20

I'm not famous but I once went back to a guy's house and after we'd slept together I noticed a framed picture of a famous woman (not, like, Hollywood a-lister famous but famous enough that you'd know her name) on his bedside table, made an awkward joke about it being the posh version having posters of your celebrity crushes as a teenager and he was like "er, no, that's my wife, didn't you know?" He'd assumed that I would know who he was (he's not famous at all and I maintain the vast vast majority of people wouldn't know who he was!) and that I was already aware of the fact that he was cheating (although he then insisted they had an "open marriage") when in fact I assumed he was single because we'd been dating for a few weeks! I hightailed it out of there in horror and immediately blocked him on everything. Am still mortified all these years later whenever she pops up on TV although thankfully they're divorced now!

DP is famous in a sort of cult icon kind of way. Doesn’t get recognised very often because he looks so different when he’s not performing, but it does happen now and again. Word spread in our pretty normal city neighbourhood when we moved in, which makes me feel a bit odd.

The weirdest thing is when someone properly, properly famous turns out to be a fan of his. That makes my head spin a bit - it feels so bizarre.

Sunnydayhere · 27/10/2020 09:55

Philswagielka. “ My stepdad is a retired teacher. A few years ago we went to this veggie cafe for a meal and our waiter turned out to be one of his former pupils from the ‘80s. It was hilarious.”

Out for a meal to celebrate retirement, oldish chap turns up at table... are you....... I’d taught him years before and he’d entered business based, to some part, on what I’d taught him.

10 mins later a bottle of champagne arrived on the table. Lovely gesture.

(Waiter said he looked older than me! Both bits made my evening )

But it doesn’t always work that way. A colleague turned up for a smear test. ‘Hello Miss.’. The nurse did offer to get someone unknown but my friend say no, it was fine.

Lots of scope for outing on this thread!

peboh · 27/10/2020 10:08

@IsAnybodyListening

I'm not, but Dp's 'work' is famous. In that you won't recognise him at all, but he has an IMDb page. We live in a modest house, and always shocks people when they ask what he does. My old boss goggled him after asking what he did and didn't let it rest, so I am vague in real life now when asked.
Is he a porn star?
MinnieJackson · 27/10/2020 12:07

One of my best mates is an actress and has done a couple of BBC series and some other bits

LongPauseNoAnswer · 27/10/2020 12:09

If you know my business niche then you will have heard of me. I’m internet famous so don’t know if that counts?

I have been recognised on the street before, it was mortifying Blush

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 12:23

i think a lot of 'famous' people on this thread are stretching the truth a little bit.....bet none of us would have a clue if they revealed their names

thats not famous....or even well known. too many egos elbowing for attention and plenty of tenuous connections nobody can verify

BUT i think the sister of Chris Martin MAY be on this thread....somewhere

en0lagay · 27/10/2020 12:25

One of my relatives is, I sometimes meet strangers who ask me about them even though my relative lives in Australia and I live in Wales.

myhobbyisouting · 27/10/2020 12:58

@GirlCrush Chris Martin wasn't in a famous 80s band

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 13:08

didnt say he was and er,wasnt referring to that post.....

Dominicgoings · 27/10/2020 13:13

I love that people think being the daughter of the local teacher puts them on the same thread as Banksys brother Grin

myhobbyisouting · 27/10/2020 13:18

Ok, er, well there aren't any others that could be his sister either Grin

Secretborningsiater · 27/10/2020 13:19

You mean this guy?

If you are famous..
Lollyneenah · 27/10/2020 13:26

Not me but my uncle was a famous footballer, I didnt realise it was a thing until I was older and had football fans get all giddy talking to me about the team in the pub. I have all his football accolades etc under my bed at the moment which was a weird call to make to my home insurance (incase of theft fire etc)

StillCoughingandLaughing · 27/10/2020 13:27

I don’t think anyone has claimed to be an A-Lister. Granted, ‘My mum’s a headmistress and someone recognised her in Greggs when she was buying a steak bake’ is stretching the point somewhat.

BMW6 · 27/10/2020 13:42

Two of my nieces have fairly well-known partners - one is an actor and the other an author.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 27/10/2020 13:46

Calvin Harris's sister is on MN.

fairydustandpixies · 27/10/2020 13:48

My best mate is famous and it's so embarrassing going out with her because she keeps getting stopped by people. She's so lovely to everyone whereas I'm secretly fuming because I suddenly become invisible and her fans hold us up 😂
