To have impulsively hacked my hair off with crappy scissors?!

Been wanting to get DH to cut my hair for ages. Ordered scissors which turned out to be cheap 'n' nasty. Spent the morning watching girl after girl on youTube show me how to cut my own hair. They all did a beautiful job of their lovely long swishy hair.

Well, I just thought "Fuck it, I'm not waiting for another pair of scissors to arrive. Let's do this!"

So while DH is watching F1 I've just merrily hacked away. Of course, being me, I couldn't be bothered to wash/wet it. Went through all that malarkey this morning - not realising I was going to do this! Cut it dry, cut it quickly, used cheap crappy scissors.

My hair was too long/frazzled/growing in a new colour so not much to lose really.

Job done!

If I were 18 I might look a bit Suzi Quattro/Edgy Rock Chick. As it is, my look is more Post Menopausal//Hair Chewed by Rats - but IT WILL DO.

Don't they say there is only a few weeks between a bad haircut and an okay one?!

Lots and lots of hair to vacuum up nowGrin

Love your attitude OP

I did this back during lockdown... grabbed the ponytail, lopped it off. Left enough to keep it tied up, and gave my hairdresser a good laugh when I could finally see her!

BoulangerieBabs · 25/10/2020 14:38

Dd is that you? Come and show me, I told you yesterday not to do it Grin

I did it at the start of lockdown but I used kitchen scissors - it'll grow back Grin

I do stuff like this all the time.

I spend a certain amount to time researching and going down rabbit holes on the internet and confusing and frustrating myself about all the choice out there - eg scissors.

Then I build up unstoppable head of stream and flip a switch and have to DO IT NOW!!!

All my previous careful planning is thrown to the four winds. Might as well just do it from the off and save time 🤪

When I was about 11 I had very long hair and my mum wouldn’t let me cut it. Convinced my sister to cut it off - she gave me a very bad bob with kitchen scissors. My mum was displeased, but it grew back 😬

Bananalanacake · 25/10/2020 14:46

I did this too last week. was supposed to come to UK in Oct but backed out when I got worried about the quarantine rules, I like my hairdresser in the UK and if I can't come over I'll do it myself. I used kitchen scissors, I did each side, then cut off the remaining long bit in my pony tail. No one has said anything! I keep it tied back so maybe not noticeable, but DP just put something in the outside bin and said nothing about the hair in there.

SunFlowerRose · 25/10/2020 14:50

I did this too a couple of weeks ago. Went from long hair down to my bum to just above my shoulders.
No regrets.

vidalbaboon · 25/10/2020 14:51

I saw a video where the girl quartered off her hair, pulled it straight up and clipped it - so two front pieces and two back pieces pulled up on top of head.

She pulled each one straight up and cut in turn.

THEN, I used ANOTHER video to cut "curtain bangs" (what the the young ones seem to be calling face-framing layers)

So a mash-up of two videos Grin

their hair looks soooo much better than mine, but to be honest they had quite a head start (no pun intended!) on me to begin with....

The temptation is just too great sometimes, isn't it? Thing is, I don't seem to have developed any more ability to wait patiently than I did as a kid.

This is exactly me! I did the same during lockdown and it’s still growing out. I hate it. I used to think my hair grew fast. It does NOT! Grin

Buy an electric razor and shave it short- it's great.

Zzz1234 · 25/10/2020 15:26

At boarding school at 11/12, my friends did a lovely Bob with nail scissors one night- we thought it was fab, staff not so, they had to try to straighten it up in the morning 😀

dottiedodah · 25/10/2020 15:27

I have always cut my hair for a very long time now .Bought some razor sharp hairdressing Scissors for about £12.00 online .Slow and steady take a bit off , then see what its like next time I wash it and so on .Dont worry though OP ,have had a few accidents with my fringe .Soon grows out .Is it just me or does hair seem to grow faster these days !

JollyGiraffe12 · 25/10/2020 15:33

It will grow! I find curling hair hides a multitude of sins too

OrtamLeevz · 25/10/2020 15:34

Good on you - I'm also an exponent of the 'hack away at it and hope for the best' school of hairdressing Grin

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 25/10/2020 15:38

Good for you, OP! I cut and highlighted my own hair in lockdown, might be about time to do it again too. I know a decent haircut does wonders but I'm hitting the point (age) where that would just be the equivalent of polishing a turd. I can't bring myself to go to a hairdresser for a £100+ cut and dye job that no one will bloody notice anyway!

PeppaPrick · 25/10/2020 15:43

I've been cutting my own hair for years. I did it again a few weeks ago and got the thinning scissors out too, I'm a thick haired girl! Anyway, being a bit bleary eyed I started cutting away the length, all good, then picked up the thinning scissors and was chopping away and thought 'hmmm, these thinning scissors sound different today' they usually make a crunch sound. I'd already gone round my head once before I noticed I'd picked up the cutting scissors by accident 🤣🤦‍♀️ Chop Suey it is until it grows back! 💁‍♀️💇‍♀️

LagneyandCasey · 25/10/2020 15:49

Well done op. Any pics? Grin

Amberleaf12 · 25/10/2020 15:53

Well done OP . I did this last week when my hair kept getting on the way of work.

I look like someone who has had a bit of a meltdown moment and decided to hack their hair off... that’s pretty much what happened.

I can now actually just get on with my work.
