AIBU to be really irritated by public nose blowing

Currently at McDonald’s eating my feelings away. Women starts to blow her nose loudly, three large nose blows. Firstly, it’s not a corona issue, it’s just gross at all times to me. She doesn’t appear to have a cold.

I used to work at a place where a guy would blow his nose whilst walking to the photocopier. Really mould nose blow. My colleague who sat next to me had a constant cough and he never used his hand to cover his cough. It was perhaps allergies as it was constant. He also would sniff up his snot constantly.

I find nose blowing in public disgusting. My housemate also blows her nose in the bathroom daily and I can hear it from the front of the house. Ahhhhhhh. Lol.

Obviously I’m sensitive to this noise.

YABU - blowing ya nose loudly in public places is perfectly fine
YANBU - blowing your nose can be done discreetly

@ChristmasinJune I imagine we share the same feelings when people eat pop corn at the cinema. I can’t help to tune in Angry

@EvilPea That’s fine as long as you try and be discreet. I wouldn’t have minded had this woman tried to be discreet, but she did. Same applies to people I worked with.

@standupsitdownturnaround I guess you are one of these people who are ok with strangers farting around you..... like when you are shopping at Boots. Let out a nice big drinker.

I’m with you OP. I’ve always found it weird that it’s a thing people consider ok to do at leisure in public.

Goldenbear · 25/10/2020 22:05

I don't think it's 'niche'. I can't imagine you would see a 'telling off', it is more a guidance, an expectation. I just don't know anyone in my social circle that would do this, a pretty average set of people.

Goldenbear · 25/10/2020 22:09

I think they would all think it is pretty anti-social, particularly farting!

blueangel19 · 25/10/2020 22:15

Yes I find it gross. I will go and blow my nose in the toilette.

Krampusasbabysitter · 25/10/2020 22:21

OP, you sound unhinged.

liverbird10 · 25/10/2020 22:46

Boo bloody hoo. Cope.

Georgeoftheinternet · 25/10/2020 22:47

@Krampusasbabysitter so sorry that you have been taught no manners

It's revolting. In a job with free access to toilets (not stupid micromanaging managers or a role where it isn't possible for real reasons) and the toilet is next to the office I expect folk to go to the toilet and dispose of their secretions hygienically and wash their hands thoroughly.

Said as somebody with allergies, sinus issues and a respiratory disease. I actually can't blow my nose frequently it makes everything far more sore. Masks are fantastic for rolling a wedge of tissue in and taping to my face and changing hygienically at periodic intervals 🤣. No sniffing, no blowing, no sore skin from blowing/wiping.

SuzieQQQ · 26/10/2020 07:39

So where would you have your housemate blow her nose them?? If in shared spaces isn’t okay, and the bathroom isn’t okay?

Georgeoftheinternet · 26/10/2020 22:51

@SuzieQQQ my issue isn’t with her blowing the nose in the toilet.

@6PeopleInAPubSafeHomeUnsafe oh yes I love the tissue up the nose trick. It works a treat.

mbosnz · 27/10/2020 19:33

Mmmm, no, I don't have time with my constantly drippy nose to trot off to the toilet to blow my nose every time I have to, in case I offend someone by doing so.

I blow my nose, dispose of the tissue, and sanitise my hands and get on with the job.

Maybe get some headphones OP? Because I very much doubt everyone else in your world is going to start blowing their nose to your specifications. . .Smile

feistyoneyouare · 28/10/2020 13:04

OP you're being very unpleasant in your replies to people on this thread. If you can find the headspace to get so riled up about something like this, I suggest you get yourself a hobby or two.

CorianderLord · 28/10/2020 13:32

Would you prefer she struggled to breathe or snooked every two minutes? Perhaps dropped snot down herself?

Georgeoftheinternet · 29/10/2020 20:36

@CorianderLord you are assuming she had drippy snot, she didn’t.

Georgeoftheinternet · 29/10/2020 20:37

@mbosnz would you do it at McDonald’s whilst have a convo with your mate, in the middle of corona season? She didn’t put gel on her hands.
