Christmas - following the rules or not?

From what we know right now (and accepting that things may change in the next few weeks) if you're in tier 2 or 3 re you going to obey the rules about not mixing households indoors?

YANBU - I will be ignoring the rules
YABU - it's my civic duty to obey the rules

@Umbridge34 a childcare bubble is exactly that, for childcare you still shouldn't be socialising with them. All of you spending hours together obviously gives more chance for things to spread rather than you only seeing them at drop off/pick up. It's support bubbles that are different.

And yes we will be following the rules. My in laws don't seem to give a shit, but my mum and sister both work in a care home, and my mum has asthma and my sister's daughter (my niece) has a chest condition where she has been hospitalised during a normal cold before. Not worth risking it for their lives and the lives of their residents.

Followed the rules all the way through - but not at Christmas. As long as the elderly make their own risk assessment am happy for them to come. All of my married life i have had grandparents for Christmas Day and have loved every minute of it and treasured it. Will not be making an exception this Christmas and they are all welcone

Yep, DH and I will be spending Christmas together. Normally we go to either his or my parents, but both sets of parents live far away and it just doesn't seem worth it. It's only 1 year, hopefully we can have a normal Christmas again next year.

At the moment we are just in the rule of 6 part of the country so finding it hard to make any decisions or plans as we don't know where we will be at Christmas. I expect not in the rule of 6 though.

It's DH families turn for Xmas this year so we will likely have them here, that will be four of us- if we can't we will probably stick to the rules. My DD is shielding so I doubt he will meet with them and dsis family as we normally would. But would probably meet with dsis and her family which would be 9 but two of the dcs are in a school bubble anyway.

Going to wait and see

In my work currently I am seeing parents unable to bring in siblings or any other family members to meet and say goodbye to their very ill newborns.

I can’t complain about missing out on a family Christmas for one year.

Anyone vulnerable, who lives alone etc etc should absolutely join family/friends.

It’s not necessary for me this year. It’s not a huge sacrifice to spend the day with my husband and kids and not are the rest of my family.

Yes we will be following the rules. We live in a tier 2 area so can't mix inside with other households.

Do those of you planning to break the rules just not generally care about those more vulnerable than you? That hospitals will be full and people might die because of your selfishness?

I will follow the rules but desperately hope the rules by then allow some measure of household mixing (currently tier 2) so my parents can see their grandkids. But if it’s not allowed, we won’t do it.

If we fuck up at Christmas by not following the rules the. February half term can be written off too.

It isnt just a risk you or your guests take personally, it is taking the risk for the people you are in contact with afterwards. They dont get to share your Christmas dinner but they will get to share whatever potentially serious illnesses you or your guests pick up and pass on.

My parents are over 70 and my kids are in a massive school in a high risk area so I don't think it's worth us breaking the rules, it just doesn't seem worth it for the sake of one day

Nope, not abiding.

Yep and I can’t wait. I like Christmas just us as it’s loads less pressure and I can stay in my pjs all day. Less cooking and just spending time with my little family.

I wouldn’t be breaking any rules, yes grandparents can make their own judgement but you would feel pretty shit if you inadvertently killed them off. Just follow the damn rules for 1 year.

@Ffsffsffsffsffs

Holy shit, is this for real?

There was uproar in my area when cases skyrocketed 2 weeks after eid when all posters commented on dick posts on social media.

Millions of folk already facing restrictions because 'we' can't do the right thing, begging for a firebreak lockdown, and you lot are prepared to fuck it all up for a Christian festival hardly anyone observes for religious reasons, just so you can see granny, eat way too much food and spend silly money on tat nobody either wants or needs. Fuck me.

Exactly!

We will do our best to abide by the rules. Will spend Xmas day just the 5 of us at home but will try to see family who live nearby in some way - probably I’ll pop over and then one of them will come down here or whatever. Not sure that we will all get together in a big group.

We are tier 2

Normally my parents come to us for Christmas which make a total of 6

I will be leaving the decision to my DPs. They will be welcome to come (and break the rules) but I will obviously respect their decision if they decide to stay at home (they live in a tier 1 area)

DPs are early 70s with no underlying health conditions and I imagine they will choose to visit us so no we won't be obeying the guidance if that's how things pan out

Sorry to hear that @MorganKitten - I am really feeling for people unable to visit relatives due to covid. It must be so hard.

Ds in on the shielding list. He is back in school at the moment because he is 11 and he needs the education and the routine of school and on discussion with his medical team we decided it was “safe”.

It’s scary though and this thread makes me even more scared about what he will be exposed to when he goes back after Christmas because so many people won’t make the sacrifice for one year.

You may all be ok so happy to break the rules but you don’t know how dangerous it could be for anyone else you come into contact with.

I don't understand your thinking here. How does keeping everyone seperate end the virus threat. Do you think we should all stay seperate until there are no more cases and then we can all go merrily back to normal life?
You do realise that the virus will still be present in a percentage of the population and will start infecting people again once they start mixing?
Or do you think we should all stay at home until a vaccine is produced?

We will be breaking the rules, there will be 4 households for dinner and 11 people.

I’ll be working so although I’ll no doubt be mixing with a number of other households on Christmas Day due to work (Police), I won’t be able to see my extended family.

We go to DP's parent's on Christmas Day and the FIL will 100% follow the rules so that's that. They live in a cul de sac and are super worried that the neighbour's might report them etc

Maybe we'll see my Dad instead, he doesn't follow the rules and nor does my Bro

No it probably won't, because it's a virus and in there's a reasonable chance that a vaccine won't be produced anytime soon. It's something we have to learn to live with without the hysterics.
