To feel bad I’ve annoyed her

My cousin asked to use my address to register with our amazing local surgery. I’ve said no for a number of reasons. She’s angry with me as she says I’ve got no reason to say no. She said people commonly use others addresss for this purpose. I’m not convinced that’s true.

Have you posted about this before?

You’re not being unreasonable to say no, and it’s not your problem if she’s annoyed about it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/10/2020 14:05

Is this the third thread you’ve posted about this? If so maybe get a hobby.

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 14:07

I posted asking for views if I should let her. I’ve now said no and she’s annoyed with me.

So?

Leeds2 · 22/10/2020 14:11

In my experience, people don't commonly use other people's addresses for the purposes of registering at the doctor's. I don't know anyone who has ever done this.
Does your cousin being annoyed impact upon you in any way? No need for you to feel bad, as you have done the right thing.

Florencex · 22/10/2020 14:14

This is not commonly done, you have to provide proof of address for a start. Anyway as was mentioned on your previous thread, if the practice is happy to take your cousin on she doesn’t have to live in a particular area.

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 14:15

She said she’s know people use people’s address for various reasons. Well she won’t talk to me now.

If you've said no for a number of good reasons you've just got to sit through her annoyance. That's the downside of being assertive, but there are many, many upsides.

sapnupuas · 22/10/2020 14:16

Honestly, grow up.

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 14:17

I did say about proof of address. She then showed me some NHS guidance saying they legally can’t not register people for not showing evidence.

The answers won't change

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 14:18

I don’t want my relationship to be affected with her as we got on so well.

Why are there so many posts about relatives using other addresses for GP and other health services atm?

Boomclaps · 22/10/2020 14:19

How weird - what’s the matter with the GPs near her hous

Thesheerrelief · 22/10/2020 14:22

I don't think you can manage her reaction and feelings. You're within your rights to say no, for whatever reason you want. She's entitled to feel disappointed

Thesheerrelief · 22/10/2020 14:22

It's all from the same person!
NeutralJanet · 22/10/2020 14:23

She'll get over it. Is this the first time you've ever said no to something she wants you to do for her?

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 22/10/2020 14:23

She’ll get over it op.

Thesheerrelief · 22/10/2020 14:23

You can't control that or her feelings about it. Just keep making your usual effort to chat or meet up and hopefully it'll pass in time
AnneLovesGilbert · 22/10/2020 14:25

Bloody hell.

Beautiful3 · 22/10/2020 14:28

Well no, its fraud. It's like asking if I live at yours so my daughter can attend the local school! Its all fraud. You shouldn't allow anyone to use your address if they dont live there. My brother asked our parents to use their address (in between moving homes). Two years later we discovered he was in the process of securing a loan against our parents address!!! Luckily I opened those letters and called the bank to put them right.

Beautiful3 · 22/10/2020 14:29

"Its like, if I pretend to live at yours" that should have said!

Lulalulabelle · 22/10/2020 14:29

I must have seen this thread half a dozen times by now!

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 14:30

We don’t usually argue and when we have she’s not been as annoyed as she is this time. I’m pregnant so this is not needed stress.

Almost no one uses a fake address for any legitimate reason.

Exceptions might include a homeless person trying to register for services that they can’t access because they have no (fixed) address and things like that.

But generally, no one with a fixed address needs to use a fake one to register with a GP.
