Have discovered this fab ironing lady just down the road from me but DH keeps moaning that i'm sending it out all the time. Its just such a relief to bung it in a bag and have it all come back nicely pressed. Am a SAHM so should i be making time to do it myself?

I know!

but she talks a lot of sense!

bigspender30 · 27/10/2007 09:55

now I know you are pulling our legs. Joan Burnie- she talks the biggest pile o mince ever. There is never a balanced rational answer.

LoveAngel · 27/10/2007 10:14

If I could afford it I would NEVER wash or iron clothes myself again. Good luck to you!

ssd · 27/10/2007 11:40

honest I like her!

(must be getting old...)

In all seriousness, getting back to the original thread....

My housekeeper thinks I should send my ironing out once the baby comes (in February). She currently does the ironing, about 4 hours a week (DH insists that every item of his clothing is ironed except his socks!). I suppose that the bedding takes two hours also. When the new baby comes, I guess she's thinking another 2 beds to wash and iron (baby and my mum is coming to stay for 8 weeks). However, she'll go from 2 times a weeks to full time then. Do you think she's being reasonable?

Elasticwoman · 27/10/2007 14:48

MG - oh you just can't get the staff these days ....

ssd · 27/10/2007 17:40

the princess and the pea?

MALO · 27/10/2007 20:30

Our ironing was done today - my dh did it - it took him 3.5hrs and everything was done and put away....it was a painful 3.5hrs - if anyone dare to go into the kitchen they did so at their own risk and all dh could moan about was how small some of the kids bits were and how fiddly all the sequins, embroidery and various pictures were to iron around on their various t-shirts!!!!

Maybe I will send my ironing out after all!

morningglory · 27/10/2007 20:38

Shes does have to iron our bed linens, or DS would have a fit. I was a bit bemused that my help would be asking for help, but kind of understand as I was in her position and swamped with all the work the house entailed.

ps, I don't consider her staff. To me she is a Godsend and makes my life inifinitely easier.

ssd · 27/10/2007 21:01

how old is your ds?

couldn't he do them himself?

Malo - good on your dh!

MALO · 27/10/2007 21:55

ssd - ex army for you! They are well trained!!!

stleger · 27/10/2007 21:58

Bedding takes 2 hours - no way!

MALO · 27/10/2007 22:02

In all the years I've been doing ironing I have never, NEVER, done bedding...why do people do bedding?! Why do people do underwear?!!!!

ssd · 27/10/2007 22:04

malo, go to the other thread about having no family help, see if you can talk some sense into me

MALO · 27/10/2007 22:05

hang on!

stleger · 27/10/2007 22:09

I kind of vaguely do bedding in the hope it will be lovely and smooth, and spray a bit of ironing water on it. My MIL was once spotted ironing a string vest...

MALO · 27/10/2007 22:39

If I were to do bedding my ironing pile would be so huge it would definitely fall out of the airing cupboard and knock me out...with tumble drying most of my washing the bedding doesn't need ironing...whereas if you're my dh and forgets he's tumble dried the bedding until the following day then yes an iron would be useful!

stleger · 27/10/2007 23:29

Mine is flattened more than anything! Despite Anthea, fitted sheets are less than perfect.

PeachesMcScream · 27/10/2007 23:40

Have just glanced at this thread for the first time. I have no idea how you've managed to get to nearly 300 posts about ironing.

Should I make the effort to read the whole thread?

MALO · 28/10/2007 11:11

yea...good isn't it!!!!

Alliebongo · 28/10/2007 11:13

i'd do your ironing for £2 a shirt. I am in suffolk if anyone would like to hire me I iron as it comes off of the line or airer. I never have an ironing pile lurking
