Is this not the stupidest think to be expelled from school over

In the States children see pediatricians up until aga 18. At age 18 they switch over to General providers or commonly known in the States as Primary Care Physicians. One of my son's turns 18 on November 5. He has a new patient appointment with his new doctor the day before Thanksgiving...
Today, I received a letter stating that of he doesn't receive his Mennogitis Vaccine by 30th he will be expelled from school. My children haven't stepped foot on school property since March 17th and will not return until August 2021. This particular child will never set foot back on campus because he will be graduating in May. Yet they are expelling him over this knowing there is absolutely no way of him getting this vaccine. Stupidiry is at an all time high. So damn frustrated

You're presumably not going to leave him unimmusinsed. So you may as well get it done now

There is no way adult services could, agreed, but I don' t see why his current team cannot do it

Oh FFS read the OP! Her son can't get it done until November as that is when the appointment is.

Yes it's a bore to make another appointment, but for a standard vaccination to should not be difficult

When is he due the vaccine? I'm assuming if he is serviced under a PCP after 18, before 18 he's still under a paediatrician.

It's not like he's in a limbo. If he had a medical emergency, he would be treated under the paediatrician until the 5th, if I've understood correctly?

Yanbu to think it's a stupid reason to be expelled but it doesn't make sense you can't sort it.

Can you not book an appt. with his paediatrician? Is that there is no appt? If so, could you explain that to the school? If you can't get an appt. until after his birthday then is the PCP able to see him before his review, if not then you'll have to explain he cant have it before x date due to appt availability. Present them with the date in the diary.

I'm unsure if it's an option but like we can pay for a flu jab at a pharmacy, can you do the same for the vaccine in question? Even if it's not your regular place.

Is it just a generic letter? See if you can speak to a person?

Are they actually allowed to expel for no vaccine. Do you have a local authority / school board or something that you can escalate to if they actually try and act on it.

Are all the previous posters forgetting there is a pandemic, which is largely going unchecked in the states?
Plenty of care providers are not offering basic care here in the NHS. It is the same in the states. Some are still doing it if you have a test beforehand, some are doing things without tests and some are refusing to offer some services. The OP quite possible cant "just go get it done".

I’m also in the us. The need for this shot will not be a surprise. If it’s reached the point of expulsion, there should have been multiple warnings. If he called either his old or his new doctor, either office would likely be able to get him in for the shot. If not, the county health department is also an option. Barring that, some urgent care clinics offer them as well.

It matters if the school expel him before graduation because then he has no high school diploma. If the school are going to expel him without the vaccine even though he wont be on school grounds then it matters. And OP cannot get the vaccine (I'm assuming because of restricted services due to covid).

I am in the states too. A child of any age can see a PCP. Does not have to be a pediatrician.
Your county health department gives immunizations. So do the larger pharmacies - Walgreens, CVS, etc.
Or call the PCP that he will be seeing and ask to transfer him a week earlier. You may have to pay if your insurance won't cover it, but it isn't that expensive -- $10 or so at health department.

What @Terrace58 says is true. In the USA, kids get their first dose around 11/12 and a booster around 16, so the OP’s D.C. is far behind getting the vaccine. What is more, it’s available from all doctors, CVS, Walgreens, local health dept. Surely these are available to them.

So OP, have I missed out your list why your DC is nearly 18 so almost two years behind getting it?

Additionally, In USA, your kids can’t attend Uni without getting the vaccine.

It’s not something they didn’t know about for some long time.

You can get the vaccine anywhere in the US. Just get it sorted, for his own safety if nothing else.
