Is this not the stupidest think to be expelled from school over

In the States children see pediatricians up until aga 18. At age 18 they switch over to General providers or commonly known in the States as Primary Care Physicians. One of my son's turns 18 on November 5. He has a new patient appointment with his new doctor the day before Thanksgiving...
Today, I received a letter stating that of he doesn't receive his Mennogitis Vaccine by 30th he will be expelled from school. My children haven't stepped foot on school property since March 17th and will not return until August 2021. This particular child will never set foot back on campus because he will be graduating in May. Yet they are expelling him over this knowing there is absolutely no way of him getting this vaccine. Stupidiry is at an all time high. So damn frustrated

@Leaannb So then you’re stating that he is not late getting the vaccine due to his health conditions, so you must know that 18 is not the normal age for this vaccine. Now, if your son is somehow disabled in a way that has kept him from being able to get his vaccines for two extra years, and the school is now going to expel him, then yes, that is incredibly unfair. However, without mitigating circumstances, as many people have mentioned, children have the vaccine between 11 and 12 and the booster at 16.

But as many people have asked, and as I asked in my comment: was this letter your first and only warning? The school gave you no warning he needed the vaccine, and then suddenly told you they were going to expel him. If so, yes, that would be unfair, too.

I know it may seem they’re being incredibly bureaucratic, but meningitis is a terrible disease (I’ve been through the aseptic form three times and that’s the “safe” kind that doesn’t kill you and it was still really terrible) so I would think they’re just trying to protect 100% of students, whether distance learners or not.

I just read Governor Abbott’s new rule around allowing exclusion of disabled/LGBTQ+ state services. If you are in Texas, I’m really sorry, but please please for your son’s education try and head to a CVS pharmacy and get his vaccine. These people don’t need additional reason to exclude the vulnerable.

@trunumber

oP literally said in her post that there is no way of getting it done
where?

I assume there is some form of appeal process? Or a way of getting politicians involved given there is not just the Presidential election in two weeks time?

If he were expelled, would you be able to provide him with an equivalent education for as long as needed? If the answer is no, move hell and high water to get either a vaccination or an exemption.
