To love living in the south west

Iftheclouds · 20/10/2020 20:07

I’m always being told that either central England or the south east is better. Aibu to love living in the south west? It’s cheaper here than most other places.

Sssh! Don't tell people that! They'll all end up moving down here and our house prices won't be low for much longer!!!!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/10/2020 20:11

Well, salaries are very low. I guess it's fine if you can afford it.

jetadore · 20/10/2020 20:12

Having lived in all those places plus the north, the order is:

  1. North
  2. Central
  3. SW
  4. SE
vodkaredbullgirl · 20/10/2020 20:12

Dont tell them, there are enough here already lol

Isthisannoying · 20/10/2020 20:14

I adore West Dorset and fancied moving there. House prices were huge. I'd. Love to know where you live in the South West that's cheap.

DivisionBelles · 20/10/2020 20:15

I like living here for the scenery, beaches and pace of life, but the wages are low and property prices where I am are well out of reach for anyone on local wages.

PicsInRed · 20/10/2020 20:15

Is there a local real estate agency on here tonight?

So much love for the SW. 😂

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/10/2020 20:17

I love the Bristol / Bath area. Loads of lovely countryside and the cities are fab as well

OverTheRainbow88 · 20/10/2020 20:18

Majorly insensitive thread considering what’s going on at the moment.

MainliningMarzipan · 20/10/2020 20:19

Do you expect anyone to tell you YABU because you like where you live?

That seems quite odd.

HelplessProcrastinator · 20/10/2020 20:19

YANBU. I’m in Devon and I love it. Close to Cornwall and Dartmoor. Transport and job opportunities are shit though. I can live with lack of career progression for the lifestyle though.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 20/10/2020 20:20

Depends what you mean by ‘south west’. There’s a big difference between, say, Bristol, South Somerset, North Devon and Bournemouth. Where are we talking about?

Iftheclouds · 20/10/2020 20:20

I don’t know a lot of people tell me they don’t like where I live.

OP posts:
goose1964 · 20/10/2020 20:22

I'm in North Somerset definitely no cheap housing but it's a nice town with no real social problems apart from teenagers leaving their rubbish behind where the congregate.

Qwom · 20/10/2020 20:23

Bournemouth isn't Sourh West, is it? 🤔

PinkiOcelot · 20/10/2020 20:26

Geography not a strong point. What is classed as SW?
@OverTheRainbow88 how an insensitive thread? The OP saying she likes where she lives?

AdoptAdaptImprove · 20/10/2020 20:30

I work in a government body covering the SW; for us, SW is Glos, Bristol, Bath and NE Somerset, North Somerset, South Glos, Wiltshire, Dorset, Bournemouth and Christchurch, Devon and Cornwall. So yes, Bournemouth is SW, along with the rest of Dorset. It’s a huuuuge region. Hence my query about which bit the OP refers to.
AdoptAdaptImprove · 20/10/2020 20:31

And regular Somerset, of course. Too many Somersets.

Zoecarter · 20/10/2020 20:32

I grew up in Somerset and lived in Bristol when I was older I absolutely hated it so glad to be home. The salary’s in Bristol where so low and the houses so expensive. I found my people my age early 30s house shareing whilst married and stuff. Luckily me and my husband had decent jobs.

Loved the vibe of the city but I didn’t find my crowed I found a lot of people fake

Because of the difficulties 'The North' are having with Covid, especially today.

That was my first thought too, tbh. But I've just been in threads with people from GM who are really struggling.

But I'm sure the OP didn't intend it that way at all.

Though she might end up with a LOT of new neighbours 🤣

MollieMaeve · 20/10/2020 20:32

Dorset is considered South West so yes, Bournemouth is.

(South west is officially Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire - I believe)

nosswith · 20/10/2020 20:37

The difficulty I would have is the time to get anywhere else, especially as I am not keen on flying (and from Exeter I expect after Flybe collapsed options are limited).

Left · 20/10/2020 20:41

I'd also love to know where's cheap to live in the SW ☺️

OP you're not unreasonable to love where you live. Does someone you know have an issue with it? I'd find it irritating if I had to constantly justify where I lived to be honest.

TheGinGenie · 20/10/2020 20:46

Plymouth!

I moved from London & the south east though, so everywhere seemed cheap in comparison. Wages are quite poor but I'm
no more broke than I was earning £10k more in London.

I do quite like living in the south west OP, but it's sometimes frustrating to live so far from everywhere else!! Tbh, I have felt very grateful to live here during Covid, I really feel for those with stricter restrictions

Someone can’t enjoy living in the SW because others might take offence to itConfused
