To love living in the south west

Iftheclouds · 20/10/2020 20:07

I’m always being told that either central England or the south east is better. Aibu to love living in the south west? It’s cheaper here than most other places.

They can enjoy living there but weird to make a thread about it, especially when more and more areas are in tighter restrictions.

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/10/2020 21:03

Some people are so senstive.

happinessischocolate · 20/10/2020 21:04

I do quite like living in the south west OP, but it's sometimes frustrating to live so far from everywhere else!!

Where is this everywhere else that only the SW is so far from?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/10/2020 21:05

YANBU if you enjoy living there. I lived there for 5 years and hated it personally, not enough going on for my liking.

Dahlietta · 20/10/2020 21:05

I've never heard anybody say the South West is horrible.

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/10/2020 21:06

Ive got family all over the UK and overseas.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/10/2020 21:07

And it's definitely not cheap to live in the south west, not compared to where I live in the east Midlands.

newmumwithquestions · 20/10/2020 21:11

I live in the south and everyone I know wants to live in the south west. But work.

teenagetantrums · 20/10/2020 21:12

I love it moved from London to Somerset 3 years ago. Rent so much cheaper. Love the sea. We both on minimum wage jobs and have a much better life here. What's bit to like. Exmoor on my doorstep.o e the ponies.

QueenofLean · 20/10/2020 21:15

Bloody hell we used to live in the SW and loved it but moved because the property was so bloody expensive! Where do you like that it’s cheap?
I’ve lived in London, the SW, the SE and the Midlands (I get about Wink). Favourite was Warwickshire. SW second.

JuliaJohnston · 20/10/2020 21:15

@Iftheclouds

I don’t know a lot of people tell me they don’t like where I live.
Presumably they mean your area, or even street, not the entire SW? 😂 Ridiculous op.
EL8888 · 20/10/2020 21:17

YANBU l would love to live there!

MaverickDanger · 20/10/2020 21:18

We moved to Somerset last year and earn more here than we could anywhere else in the country.

I love that we have city, country, hills and beach all within less than an hour of our house. Our house wasn’t cheap compared to what I grew up with in the North, but you can get a decent amount for your money.

Mumofsend · 20/10/2020 21:19

Dorset is home and beautiful and I wouldn't live anywhere else

ifiwasascent · 20/10/2020 21:36

I've just brought a house in Bristol- not cheap at all but I love living here it's a brilliant place to live! Lived in Cardiff and London previously

DelphineWalsh · 20/10/2020 21:40

Where is this cheap south west? I was priced out of my hometown a decade ago. I'd give anything to move back home.

hammeringinmyhead · 20/10/2020 21:55

I'm in Wiltshire. Houses are cheaper here than they are in the area of Huddersfield (West Yorks) I grew up in. It's 35 minutes to Bristol, 15 to Bath, lots of lovely countryside and 2 hours to an impromptu holiday in Devon/Cornwall. What's not to like?

DH remote works and my salary is average so we don't get paid this mythical SW peanuts.

Sciurus83 · 20/10/2020 21:56

Cheap?! Where?! Definitely not compared to here in the lovely North East! The SW is beautiful, but my perception is expensive houses and busy beaches, never lived there though! Where is affordable, not too busy and a nice placel?!

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/10/2020 22:02

Bristol, Bath and Poole have some of the most expensive property in the uk.

EasterIssland · 20/10/2020 22:07

Hello! A sw- er here! And I love it. Been to Devon and Cornwall this year and I love what we saw.

Expensive area to live and I’d say depending what you’re working on the salaries aren’t low. I work in it and I’d say it’s lower than London but not much lower comparing to their cost of living

TheVanguardSix · 20/10/2020 22:09

Too much radon! No thanks.

Maskedcrusader · 20/10/2020 22:13

Born & bred in Plymouth but moved away for work a few years ago. It's a shit hole but I love it and miss it every day.

timeforanewstart · 20/10/2020 22:17

In sw biut on average wages here are rubbish compared like to like job , and less jobs in general bit south west is huge area some places are nicer than others
Houses here ok priced but not necessarily compared to wages and are going up as more people move down from london efc , cornwall prices gone up years ago so now other areas of sw are being looked at
My town isn't prob the most desirable but all in all its not bad and we are 35 mins from
Coast 5 mins countryside and there are certainly worst places to live
But it depends what you want and like

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 20/10/2020 22:18

Devon is heaven!

TheGinGenie · 20/10/2020 22:20

@happinessischocolate

Where is this everywhere else that only the SW is so far from?

Other cities mostly, I live on the Cornish border so it takes me over an hour just to get out of Devon! Nearest airport is 2 hours away etc (not that that matters much right now)
