Got eye test and contact lense check a few days avo in Boots. Booked a week before, all easy.

ExclamationPerfume · 20/10/2020 20:00

No, opticians have been open as normal for months.

Litthefirealready · 20/10/2020 20:01

I lost my glasses, couldn’t find my old prescription so had to book an eye test. I had to wait three weeks for an appointment but when I got there they were great. Had to wear a mask obvs.

TurquoiseDragon · 20/10/2020 20:02

Actually, no. I'm due into the opticians (at an Asda) tomorrow to collect my new glasses.

There are changes, of course. All appointment only, masks to be worn, no one allowed to browse except those with an appointment, all frames tried on go in a box to be sanitised before being put back on the display, etc.

DS uses the local Specsavers. Greeter at the door checking numbers in the shop and getting people to queue, masks, etc, all good.

LillianGish · 20/10/2020 20:02

Barnard Castle Spec Savers.

dementedpixie · 20/10/2020 20:04

My dd got hers last month. We got messaged to say she could make an appointment again. My mum and my dh have also had theirs done recently

Everley · 20/10/2020 20:06

I was due a contact lens check while we were in lockdown. When my opticians (Boots) re-opened the earliest I could get was in November.

TheCanyon · 20/10/2020 20:07

Our opticians still only doing emergency appointments.

Oldraver · 20/10/2020 20:07

No. Both DS and OH have had appointments recently. They just n as he sure no one else is in the place so you have to book appointment to pick up glasses, no dropping in

OH had his appointment last week and was asked if he wanted to postpone.... but only as he would be 60 then

BikeRunSki · 20/10/2020 20:08

My opticians rang me when they reopened in June, as my previous appointment had been at the end of March, so obviously didn’t happen.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 20/10/2020 20:15

Had mine about 6 weeks ago, booked on line 3 weeks in advance. My Specsavers branch is allowing people only by appointment, well-spaced out so only two customers in at a time, greeted at the door and asked to sanitise, all staff in masks and the optician in mask, visor, gloves and apron. Any specs tried on go straight for sanitising after. I think all the chains are operating the same way. Are you looking for Boots, Specsavers, VisionExpress etc appointments, or an independent? National chains might be your best bet at the moment.

underneaththeash · 20/10/2020 20:25

I'm an Optometrist, a practice I previously worked in has closed due to the owner being extremely vulnerable (although he's also quite old and should have retired some time ago anyway).
I currently work in a local independent, a day a week, who forgot I only work TTO - I know one of other optometrists is very anxious about everything and they are not testing this week.
99% of practices are open and testing as normal.

Felifox · 20/10/2020 20:27

I had an eye test shortly after lockdown at Specsavers in Truro

D4rwin · 20/10/2020 20:28

Eye test has been easy (vision express) dentist though .... absolutely nothing.

cannotfindanickname · 20/10/2020 20:32

My. dad got sent a reminder at the beginning of September and the earliest I could get was mid November. Boots Opticians.

RoseMartha · 20/10/2020 21:28

When I booked one, it was a month before I actually went and that was the best they could manage due to back log because of covid.

princesspenny · 20/10/2020 21:34

I am an optometrist in Scotland, we are open as normal with no restrictions on what services we can provide however because of social distancing, extra time factored in for cleaning and PPE changes the clinic capacity is down to 50%. Next available appointment is now last week in November

MiaMarshmallows · 20/10/2020 22:05

DP has been told to have one before he starts new meds. Just wondered if there would be a delay at the hospital/opticians and if that would impact on him getting the meds as I don't think he will be allowed them until he has the eye test.

Can't get an appointment online or get answer on phone from store.Specsavers South Wales.

TonTonMacoute · 20/10/2020 22:49

No, had a reminder that my check was due, got an appointment the ne t week.

QuestionableMouse · 20/10/2020 22:53

Yes booked it three times and had it cancelled three times. Especially annoying because they've been sending me reminders. 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

AibuTellMe · 20/10/2020 23:58

No. Had 1 months ago.

Svalberg · 21/10/2020 00:03

It was a 4 week wait between booking and having the tests. Then another 3 week wait for a dilation test.

Boom45 · 21/10/2020 00:09

My opticians was emergency only for a few months and then delay on appointments when they "reopened" but back to normal now.

OperationallySound · 21/10/2020 00:14

I booked a week in advance, plenty of availability, and had test this week. The optician said that they were expecting things to get very quiet as Christmas approaches.
