Dogs are amazing

DH and I sitting having a tearful heart to heart about infertility and what will we do if his sperm count is still low on the next test. Darling Dog (now DD) jumps up on the sofa and puts her paw on my arm, in an obvious attempt to soothe me, DH and I were so taken aback by her sweetness that it totally took us out of ourselves and made us laugh, it really was the loveliest moment and she was obviously concerned about me. She looked SO worried.

Dogs get a hard time on here, but the concern DD had on her face was just incredible and has made a v sad me feel a whole lot better. She is a little sweetheart. Dogs are amazing.

@AlexCabot "The most brilliant thing about dogs is that every single person who has a dog has the best dog in the world. Every dog is best. All of them." Yes this ( except secretly my little dog is actually the best dog in the world Grin ) No I get this.

But the bigger dog - when my MIL died my son was was upset because obviously it was Grandma - bigger dog sat by him & put his paw on DS's leg whilst he ( DS ) , a teenager at the time , was trying not to cry. I will never believe that dog did not know that DS was upset and just came and sat with him.

@PrimitiveHeart - do agree with you - obviously some people just do not like dogs - and fair enough. And some owners are rubbish , many are not & are hugely responsible. But our dogs I am utterly convinced make our family's life better.

lovelemoncurd · 18/10/2020 02:54

I will never forget when I had a trapped nerve in my neck and developed pins and needles in my hand. Our dog came over and totally out of the blue started licking and licking that hand.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/10/2020 03:06

Oh i think ive got something in my bloody eye
. Not just dogs but most animals would teach some humans a thing or 2 about compassion and consideration

Pinkypie86 · 18/10/2020 03:18

What am I doing awake reading this thread - balling like a baby!

OP - I really hope you have better news soon. Each day at a time. :)

So, we don't have a doggy - yet.
But, are going to view her today. Grin
My MH hasn't been good for a while and we think having a dog will improve it.
I'm nervous though, worried I'll fail her and not be a good doggy mum. :)

She's an English Bulldog and the most beautiful thing. I hope her owners love us enough to let her retire with us, and to bring some more joy into our lives.

Dogs are the best! ❤️🐶❤️

Plump82 · 18/10/2020 08:05

@Icanttakethiscrapanymore

Dogs are simply amazing!

After I’d had my 6th mc I could barely get out of bed. I was scared every time I went to the loo because of the blood loss. My little dog did nothing but lay next to the bed and follow me to the bathroom for 3 days. He didn’t take his eyes off me for a second. He made me feel not so alone.

My old man lost a eye in a accident and sadly the op caused blindness in his remaining eye so he’s completely blind now BUT the day I brought my long a awaited baby home he just “knew” that this thing in the house was something special and has camped by my ds side for the last two years. He can’t see a thing but you’d never know how he follows that little boy round.
I apparently rescued him but really it was the other way round Grin

Oh that one got me 😢
SophocIestheFox · 18/10/2020 08:20

Think it must be really dusty in this thread, my eyes are watering 😬

All dogs are the best! (Mine are the bestest best though, obvs)

I currently have a dog draped over me in bed. I’m not well and she’s a bit worried about me. She takes her nursing duties very seriously indeed.

Juanbablo · 18/10/2020 08:34

I've never been a dog lover at all but we got our own dog last year and I'm obsessed with him.

SilverOtter · 18/10/2020 09:39

Dogs are totally, utterly amazing!

Our dog is a great big soft lump full of boundless energy. She adjusts the way she plays with my 7 year old and my 3 year old; she's still rough and tumble with the 3 year old but significantly gentler than she is with the older one.

Belledan1 · 18/10/2020 09:57

I have been going round a relative who had an op and working there to keep an eye on her. She has 2 dogs I had dogs when a child but never an adult always thought too much hard work but since spending time with these two dogs makes me see how loving and funny they are. Even walking them made me happy and helped with my mental well being. If it turns out I can wfh perm a few days a week I def get a dog.Between the kids and hubby we could make sure someone around so not at home on own too much.

Allthedoggos · 18/10/2020 10:31

@Pinkypie86 from personal experience my dog has been a lifesaver MH wise. I am lucky in that I don't suffer with depression or anything like that but I'd hit a stage in my life where I knew children weren't going to be in my future (not infertility just circumstances) and I felt really very lost and sad about life generally. DH says I've been a totally different person since we got her, and having her to love and look after has really settled me. I knew nothing about dogs when I got her and was worried I wouldn't be a good dog-mum but despite a lot of bumps (she has some behavioural issues) I've learned as I go along, and I feel really proud of her and my relationship with her is pure joy, she is the light of my life. I hope you get to bring your bully girl hone today, they are such beautiful dogs. Fingers and paws crossed for you!

JanetandJohn500 · 18/10/2020 10:49

My puppy would come and cuddle you but only because he wants a chance to eat your tissues once you've finished with them 😂 He can hear a tissue coming out of a tissue box from 3 rooms away and he's in there like a shot🤣
He does give lovely cuddles though!

Dogs are amazing
nosswith · 18/10/2020 11:24

I am a cat lover, but know several people whose dogs are very much part of the family, and indeed greet one a work colleague has when we have work calls. The dog responds to my saying his name and appears to recognise my voice, even though we have never met.

VentventVENT · 18/10/2020 11:31

@JanetandJohn500 so cute! Looks a bit like mine.

Mine is a little hero always trying to protect and comfort us.

However some of the things he chooses to protect us from include
Sneezing
The broom
The back room curtains

Dogs are all amazing

CounsellorTroi · 18/10/2020 11:32

Dogs are indeed amazing. They are even being trained to sniff for Covid now.

One of ours helped us through infertility. Sympathy to anyone ho has lost a dog,

Giggorata · 18/10/2020 11:33

Sorry for those who are having hard times and for those who have lost beloved companions Flowers

My story is about our two lab bitches, when their much older beloved “uncle” lab was dying of old age.
One of them snuggled up to him, so that there was constant body contact, cleaning his face occasionally.
The other one went up to DH, sat and put her paw on his arm and whined. She couldn’t have said more clearly, “please do something to help uncle.”
It reduced both of us to tears.
Dogs are full of love.

MellowMelly · 18/10/2020 11:36

I have a Staffordshire bull terrier and she is so in tune with human emotions.
When she sees people on our TV crying she goes up to the tv and starts whining and pawing at the tv screen. The most memorable one was when she watched Shirley in Eastenders sobbing her heart out one day and she howled along with her.
If I am having an emotional moment she will stand in front of me and paw me until I give her a cuddle and I do feel so much better afterwards. She gets excited and proud of herself after the cuddle as she knows she’s achieved something. She’s a very soothing dog.

Pinkypie86 · 18/10/2020 17:00

@Allthedoggos

Wow - your post has made me smile. Thank you.
I'm so glad your dog has given you a little more purpose and filled your life with happiness.
We went to see the beautiful girl and see is stunning and, will be ours next week. OMG.. I'm so excited I could cry.

I just want it to be perfect for her when she arrives, so the next few days will be getting everything ready and trying to calm myself. :)
Thank you!

Pinkypie86 · 18/10/2020 17:03

Here she is... She's camera shy! :)

Dogs are amazing
Spidey66 · 18/10/2020 17:06

Our dog is our world. Funny, bonkers, but very chilled, and very loved. We don't that a kids, she's our substitute baby.

Dogs are amazing
Spidey66 · 18/10/2020 17:09

@frankie001

I’ve had my girl for 6 months and I adore her. She takes up too much room in the bed, snores but is so sweet and always ready for a cuddle.
That sounds like my husband.
LittleTiger007 · 18/10/2020 17:12

I’m so sorry you are having a tough time @PrimitiveHeart. Dogs are wonderful, they are so loyal and def know when something’s up. We have a Labrador and an Aussie shepherd, they are both exceptionally loyal, intelligent and funny. The Aussie is a noisy sod when the postman comes but otherwise we wouldn’t be without them.

dewisant2020 · 18/10/2020 17:14

I wouldn't be without my dog, she's somehow managed to get me through some off the darkest days I've ever had.
When my DS passed away she was always there for me in my loneliest moments.
Yes she smelly and getting old but she's been an amazing member of our family for the last 13 years

ChickensMightFly · 19/10/2020 11:49
@ChickensMightFly I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks they really do break your heart, and life seems so empty without them. Sounds like he had a happy, full life with you.

During lockdown I'd have been lost without mine, he really is my best friend. Sad but true. If only he knew how precious he is to me!
Thank You, I am so sad it's true, but the most overwhelming feeling is one of gratitude for a fabulous dog who came and gave us so much and had a long and wonderful life, I wish he didn't have to go, but that he came at all was a joyous miracle:
He was bereaved of his first owner and passed through 2 homes (by people who were trying to do the right thing) at the age of 4. His first owner who died must have been wonderful because he was such a good boy.
A vet friend who knew of his situation asked if we could give him a home which I was keen on, but DH is massively allergic to dogs and cats and has even ended up on a ventilator in hospital from his reaction. So it was never going to happen... but DH loves collies and he had met and liked him, so given the dog was not having any luck we decided to give it a go on a trial basis - DH didn't react at all!! Only dog ever!
He lived with us for the next 11 years with not even a sneeze and accompanied DH on off road bike rides, long runs with us both, adapted to babies arriving and teaching them to love the outdoors and join us in escaping the suburbs for country life which he adored (sheep and even a sheep farmer neighbour who knew he was a gent and allowed him to join him on his rounds behind our house cos he was a dog you could trust!) - so in the end he properly landed on his paws, I wish his first beautiful (I am sure) owner could have known what his life would become, I think it would have given her peace to know he would be OK. More than OK. Adored and living his best life.

ChickensMightFly · 19/10/2020 11:56

KeeponKeepingonKeepingon I'm sure your boy does know how precious he is to you. Flowers
