Dogs are amazing

DH and I sitting having a tearful heart to heart about infertility and what will we do if his sperm count is still low on the next test. Darling Dog (now DD) jumps up on the sofa and puts her paw on my arm, in an obvious attempt to soothe me, DH and I were so taken aback by her sweetness that it totally took us out of ourselves and made us laugh, it really was the loveliest moment and she was obviously concerned about me. She looked SO worried.

Dogs get a hard time on here, but the concern DD had on her face was just incredible and has made a v sad me feel a whole lot better. She is a little sweetheart. Dogs are amazing.

@BewaretheIckabog

My little bundle of fluff is on holiday without me. I have a couple of heavy weeks at work so she’s away having cuddles, walks and play. It’s the longest we’ve been apart and the house is so empty.

I thought it would be nice to have the sofa to myself for a change. It’s not!

ha that'll learn you Smile
@ChickensMightFly I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks they really do break your heart, and life seems so empty without them. Sounds like he had a happy, full life with you.

During lockdown I'd have been lost without mine, he really is my best friend. Sad but true. If only he knew how precious he is to me!
I know! I say to DH do you think they know how much we love them !

I was never a dig person. I disliked like them and their hairs and slobber. Never ever wanted a dog and then my dog came into my life and everything changed.

I have a chronic health condition and my dog seems to know when I'm gonna have a flare up before I do as she's right at my side all the time as if she's waiting to catch me.

If I'm sad and upset she does the paw thing too and it's always a reason to smile every day.

Don't get me wrong, she can be a pain in the arse at times but without fail she seems to know when I'm about to be unwell and and she's not a pain in the arse.

People can not believe the total change in my attitude towards dogs. It was like fate meeting this dog and I genuinely believe she stops me from feeling so shitty about myself as my health has me at home alone all day feeling like a burden to dh and dd sometimes.

Bearnecessity · 17/10/2020 22:49

Glad you've got a lovely dog to help....not sure where I would be without mine...

BewaretheIckabog · 17/10/2020 22:55

@PrimitiveHeart

Dogs can’t solve your problems but they can definitely help you through shitty times.

I hope it all works out for you and glad DD is making you smile.

Tooshytoshine · 17/10/2020 22:58

I live my dog so much. She is naughty and a beast but she lives me without condition.

We got her as a puppy after I had just been given anti depressants after a tough time. It gave me a small mildly savage (in a mouthy puppy way) reason to get up and go out for a walk each day. I met a great group of people who also walked in the park and eight years in some who have become best friends.

When people tell me they hate dogs because they find them too needy, I think aww we will probably never be proper mates. I'm a bit loyal, friendly and needy too.

I agree with the pp who said Staffies came out top of the dogs with the most empathy. By nature they are the most loving dogs.
It is the brutal owners at fault for training them to fight and giving them such an unfair press.

Doubletrouble99 · 17/10/2020 23:39

We have now got two dogs for the first time ever. Our old Yorkie is losing his sight and getting a lot slower but still a much loved member of the family. We were persuaded to look for another rescue friend for him by our two teens. Eventually we found a little street dog from Romania who had been returned by it's first family when she arrived here because of her aggression to visitors and other dogs. So 3 weeks ago we went to Wales to see her, Yorkie and all. We took her for a walk and she seemed to fit right with our Yorkie although a little shy. We filled in the forms, said our goodbyes and off we went on our long journey home. we were a bit nervous hoping it would all work out. Well, getting her has been the best thing we have ever done. She is so calm, affectionate and loves being with us. She loves her walks, Is exited to see any of us when we come in the door and has decided our bed is where she is sleeping every night. She pops up onto the sofa beside my DH every time he sits down, the first dog that has ever had a bond with him, we can't imagine life without her such a beautiful wee soul.

I agree too. We got one by accident. He was wondering round town on his own and no one claimed him. When he sadly passed away years later we got another from a terrier rescue place. They are just the most lovely dogs, so faithful and sweet.

We have a springer and he's the absolute love of my life. Don't tell dh or the kids!

The most brilliant thing about dogs is that every single person who has a dog has the best dog in the world. Every dog is best. All of them.

This is true.

I've had 2 dogs. My old girl who I lost last year at 16 who really was the best girl in the world.

And now my pup, the 2nd best girl in the world. She is currently saving my life as I'm really depressed and she's keeping me going.

OP. I"m glad you have your DD and I wish you and your partner all the best and hope you soon have your bundle of joy who will be your DD's best friend I can guarantee it!

Mydogmylife · 17/10/2020 23:51

Well, you can tell from my user name how I feel about my boy! He has totally saved me on many occasions . We got him after my mum passed ( I had given up work to look after her) and I was lost really for a while and he totally kept me going. My dad passed shortly thereafter and the day it happened (Christmas night which seemed to make it worse somehow ) he sat leaning against me all night while I cried into his lovely soft fur. He's not normally a one for long cuddles. Then a couple of years ago I fell and smashed up my ankle really badly on the hill at the back of our house and again he sat by me with his head on my knee while we waited for the ambulance which was a 4 hour wait - he never moved an inch!
I'm sorry that you are having a rotten time , here's hoping things will work out soon

I’ve had my girl for 6 months and I adore her. She takes up too much room in the bed, snores but is so sweet and always ready for a cuddle.

pigsDOfly · 18/10/2020 00:12

I'm retired and live on my own. I can't imagine how awful the last months would have been without my lovely dog.

During lockdown, she was frequently the only one I spoke to for days at a time.

I'm so very grateful I've got her.

Mayorquimby2 · 18/10/2020 00:29

We were told quite young that we'd never be able to have kids.

My wife is convinced that the only reason we now have our daughter is because of our rescue pup.
She thinks that seeing me have something to look after took the pressure off our fertility treatment and then the way he looked after her belly when she was pregnant meant she had a full time doula from day one.

He has been our daughters shadow gym the day she came home and was a godsend during lockdown as she had her best friend 24/7

PrimitiveHeart · 18/10/2020 02:05

Everyone, your lovely posts have warmed my heart. Thank you!

And you know what, even if this post goes someway to making non doggy folk thinking about posting the weekly anti dog thread about how a dog irritated them in some way or another, that irksome dog may have really made a difference in someone's life. So maybe... don't post about something negative about it and imagine how happy it might make someone else Smile
