Are you going away in half term?

I have a couple of nights booked in UK. It’s likely the area will be T3 by time our half term in a couple of weeks. Happy to still go, chill in hotel room and walk in remote areas. DP says we shouldn’t go. Would you?
YABU - don’t go
YANBU - go and enjoy!

Yabu I wouldn't

We've got a holiday cottage booked in North Yorkshire at the start of November. We will be going regardless, as long as the owners dont cancel on us. The whole point of the holiday is to steer clear of other households, do a bit of walking and spend some time together.

You should go, and enjoy your holiday.

myhobbyisouting · 17/10/2020 16:10

No, we cancelled for the reason that the guidelines say we shouldn't

Panicmode1 · 17/10/2020 16:10

We are supposed to be going to a cottage right on the sea in a small village in Cornwall, which was a holiday we booked for last Easter, which obviously got postponed. We also couldn't go on our summer holiday, which we booked 3 years ago because it was for my mothers 70th and was a very special place with a private beach/chef etc.

We are in a low infection rate area, so if things don't change, we are still going. We need a break, my husband has been doing 14 hour days since March without a break. We will stick together (family of 6), walk on the beach and keep out of the way of other people.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/10/2020 16:13

No. No one should be shuffling round the country especially from a T3 to a T1 area. Madness.

Cocopogo · 17/10/2020 16:28

Opinions seem pretty divided at the moment. I cancelled all other breaks this year but getting to point where I think a couple of nights away will do us all the world of good. DP is very much a need to follow ALL rules ALL the time kind of person with anything.
Likely to be T3 to T3 area if I had to guess which then makes you wonder if there should be free movement between similar Tier areas as there is say in Liverpool, you can move around in Liverpool but no advised to go in or out of borders but if next border goes in to T3 then is it still advised to stay put?

Also for context, sorry to drip feed, the place we have booked is an hour away in to neighbouring county so not one end of country to another.

We've booked an area of the peak district that is still in tier1, as are we. So if it stays that way we're going, if not then we can't anyway as it's with someone else.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 17/10/2020 16:30

We just cancelled our two week half term holiday cottage in a T1 area because we are T2. You are supposed to act in a manner reflecting the rules in the highest tier which means no unnecessary journeys. It sucks.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 17/10/2020 16:30

I meant the highest of the two IySWIM

Wishiwasrunning2 · 17/10/2020 16:33

We booked back in April when it was clear we couldn't do a summer holiday. Going for half term week.

We have self catering place, will walk on the beach and eat in restaurants we feel are set up safely. Coming from low risk area and visiting a low risk area.

It's been a long year with home schooling and both our jobs being busier than ever, we need a break.

Clearly is rules change we might not go, but currently planning on going.

girlicorne · 17/10/2020 16:34

We are on half term next week, we have 4 hotels in 4 different parts of the U.K. booked to visit 6 theme parks. I am undecided. We are tier 2, we are allowed to go, the areas we are visiting are tier 2. My consideration is whether it’s the right thing to do. Although the amount of people on here and in social media saying they won’t comply with the new restrictions makes me wonder why we should sit at home miserable when the rules are conflicting nonsense and the majority of the population aren’t complying. An example, Blackpool is in tier 3 where travel in and out is not advised although not illegal. Blackpool tourist board are still encouraging visitors as hotels and attractions remain open. So what is the point of the restrictions? Clearly the tourism industry wants us to come. Blackpool isn’t on our list for this coming week, I just thought it was ridiculous reading their posts. I probably wouldn’t go to a tier 3 area and I wouldn’t go if we were tier 3 either I don’t think.

Digeridont · 17/10/2020 16:38

Yes - will drive from a tier 2 area to a tier 1 area self catering cottage. We will aim not to stop, and if we do it will be a quick loo trip with masks and hand sanitiser. Once we get there, we will get online food deliveries and take walks in the countryside, and have no contact at all with anyone locally unless there’s some sort of emergency.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/10/2020 16:42

Blackpool tourist board are still encouraging visitors as hotels and attractions remain open.

Seems insane when Scotland can trace at least 180 cases from visits to Blackpool!

wendz86 · 17/10/2020 16:44

I wouldn't travel into a tier 3 area.

Sirzy · 17/10/2020 16:47

I have cancelled our planned half term holiday. I certainly wouldn’t want to be travelling into somewhere in tier 3

Greysofa · 17/10/2020 16:52

Our holiday abroad was cancels for the half term, so we booked to go to London instead but are now in a local lockdown. We have worked right through lockdown alongside homeschooling, and are desperate for a break but can’t seem to get one home or away! 2020 sucks!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 17/10/2020 16:57

We’re travelling from T1 to T1 so will be going.

Mydogmylife · 17/10/2020 17:11

No -guide lines say no travel in or out high risk areas

I8toys · 17/10/2020 17:34

Unfortunately no our flights to Malta were cancelled. We always go away at October half term but alas not this time. We were in Milan last year and it was bloody lovely - will have to look at the pictures and reminisce

I8toys · 17/10/2020 17:36

Also meant to say - I wouldn't even bother in this country - might as well stay at home.

CoRhona · 17/10/2020 17:37

We're medium at present but it's looking like it will move into high...we want to visit DS1 at uni soon but can't if things change. Fingers crossed they won't but looks v unlikely 🤞

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/10/2020 17:38

We're not allowed to leave our county, so we're going nowhere.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/10/2020 17:39

I've been away this week. Not staying with sister as originally planned, but went elsewhere. Had a long planned event in a tier 3 area that I popped over for. Ive never seen it so quiet!

OverTheRainbow88 · 17/10/2020 17:40

We’re going to Poole for the week...
Hopefully!
