Are you going away in half term?

I have a couple of nights booked in UK. It’s likely the area will be T3 by time our half term in a couple of weeks. Happy to still go, chill in hotel room and walk in remote areas. DP says we shouldn’t go. Would you?
YABU - don’t go
YANBU - go and enjoy!

We're self catering for a week in East Anglia in half term. Looking forward to it. We try to have a weekend away once a month which has been great as it gives us something on the calendar to look forward to.

beela · 17/10/2020 22:15

We are on half term next week, we have 4 hotels in 4 different parts of the U.K. booked to visit 6 theme parks. I am undecided. We are tier 2, we are allowed to go, the areas we are visiting are tier 2. My consideration is whether it’s the right thing to do.

Really?

Comefromaway · 17/10/2020 22:17

We are travelling from T1 to T 2 on public transport but not staying overnight.

Emmie12345 · 17/10/2020 22:18

Might do a last minute sunshine few days

Fluffybutter · 17/10/2020 22:19

If it was tier 3 then no, seems risky and irresponsible. If it was 2 then possibly .
We aren’t going away this half term but were meant to be in Berlin but we cancelled.

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2020 22:20

We're going but T1 to T1.

Toothsil · 17/10/2020 22:30

We've just cancelled our UK holiday, it didn't feel right to go.

33goingon64 · 17/10/2020 22:30

Going to visit widowed DM who is on our support bubble, then a couple of night's in a relative's holiday home (they will not be there and we will clean it thoroughly when we leave).

Icanflyhigh · 17/10/2020 22:32

I honestly think the safest place to go right now is Yourgate. Its a lovely little place at the bottom of Yourgarden.

Sorry, don't mean to be flippant, I'd love to get away, but I just don't think it's worth the risk.

I think this has to be one of the most idiotic things I've read (and I'm not 100% au fait with the rules, nor will I be completely compliant, at least until my mum's funeral is over!)

AGoatAteIt · 17/10/2020 22:39

We’re not allowed to leave our county so we’re staying home. Tbh I genuinely think that the same should happen with tier 3 areas at least- no one leaves them and no one enters them.

AliTheMinx · 17/10/2020 22:43

I definitely wouldn't be going. It seems irresponsible and I wouldn't want to risk being locked down or my work/DS's school being affected.

Fluffyghost · 17/10/2020 22:44

We are going T1 saying in the same county going camping 40 mins down the road in our caravan. After a year of cancelled holidays and working my ass off, me, the husband, the kids and the dog are getting in my car, hooking up the caravan and spending a week away in the forest away from the news, the internet and hopefully the majority of civilisation on a tiny 5 pitch campsite.

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/10/2020 22:44

We went about 3 weeks ago as i couldn't see us been able to get away. I am so glad we did.

I can see a circuit breaker been called next Friday

girlicorne · 17/10/2020 22:50

@Crunchymum why is it any more idiotic than me travelling round the country for work last week where I was expected to visit 5 different cities around the U.K for meetings that could have been done on zoom? Why is it any more idiotic than going on days out in my own county which thousands and thousands of other people are doing? Theme parks are on reduced capacity, masks tare worn on all rides, temperatures checked on entry, social distancing is in place. They are as covid safe as possible and travel between tier 2 areas is allowed. I would not break the law and have stuck to all of the guidelines in place since March. I don t socialise as a rule and will be with my own household. I m not quite sure why you have picked on me out of everyone else on this thread planning on going on a half term break. Tourism needs our money or there ll be none left!!

joystir59 · 17/10/2020 22:50

I've canceled a trip from T1 to T3, but I've got family visiting from T2 and we've been discussing whether they should cancel but we've decided they should come. Haven't seen them for months and things going to get worse before they get better. The people who are visiting have both had CV-19 and have also tested positive for antibodies (NHS nurses). We will maintain social distancing mask wearing and hand washing.

Houseplantmad · 17/10/2020 23:12

@joystir59 our neighbour tested positive in March and had antibodies but now has same symptoms again and is quite poorly. She's awaiting the results of a test done yesterday.

tortoiseshell1985 · 17/10/2020 23:16

North Yorkshire it will mean T3 us to T2

friendlycat · 17/10/2020 23:30

The responsible thing to do would be to not go but it appears there are a lot of irresponsible people in this country at the moment.

MrsTravers · 17/10/2020 23:45

Nope.
Technically we can (and I'd love to) but that doesn't mean we should.
Also Tier 1.

ILiveNearby · 17/10/2020 23:55

Seems insane when Scotland can trace at least 180 cases from visits to Blackpool!

Nicola Sturgeon said there is no suggestion they are GETTING it in Blackpool (though it is a High Risk area) but advised against travel there.

I strongly suspect they are bringing it with them and spreading it on the coaches that many of them don’t seem to be wearing masks on.

I’m originally from Scotland but have lived in neighbouring Lytham since childhood
and I’ve been absolutely disgusted at seeing coach-loads of Scots disembarking upon arrival or embarking upon departure without masks on. If you are on the streets around the Houndshill centre at 10am in the morning when coaches are heading back home or late afternoon on the Promenade at check in time when they first arrive it’s a truly shocking sight. And no social distancing with other guests whilst waiting on the pavements, making it unsafe for other passers by too. How are coach holidays even still permitted at the moment? Who in their right mind would want to travel 6 or 9
hours on a coach with 40 strangers at the moment in the middle of a pandemic?

A pub in Blackpool had to make the decision to close at the weekend because 1500 Rangers fans tried to make bookings to watch the “old Firm” game. 1500 people all wanting to cram into ONE Blackpool pub to
watch a Scottish football game when 1500 can’t be in a stadium at the moment due to safety concerns. Total insanity.

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 18/10/2020 00:02

We are still planning to go to a T1 area from another T1 area, but from the other end of the country. We will be staying in a very isolated cottage and have organised a shopping delivery. Part of me thinks we shouldn’t go but we won’t get a refund and would really all benefit from a family holiday after everything was cancelled in the summer. Fingers crossed there isn’t a circuit breaker that will mean it’s cancelled.

Iftheclouds · 18/10/2020 00:02

No we’ve cancelled our week away.

Tanfastic · 18/10/2020 00:03

I'm also from Blackpool and agree I think they are bringing it with them on the coaches. I have relatives who live in Scotland who have been talking about this on social media a lot and who also seem to be inferring that is what's happening.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 18/10/2020 00:07

Interested to know how people going on holidays plan to isolate if they develop symptoms while they're away. Can't remain in the accommodation past the checkout datr (& presumably you'd need to inform the owner). How to travel home safely. What if your car breaks down.
