I appreciate that it this isn't the most pressing topic at the moment, but does anyone agree/disagree?

OP posts:

14 year old me was a durannie.

Now... I'd probably say spandau

SquashedSpring · 17/10/2020 13:34

I didn't like either, so I shall abstain!

LasagneLady · 17/10/2020 13:35

At the time I would have disagreed, as I was obsessed with John Taylor, but in retrospect Tony Hadley was pretty sexy.

PoloNeckKnickers · 17/10/2020 13:36

I saw both in the '80s at the Birmingham Odeon and would say Duran Duran at a push.

LoseLooseLucy · 17/10/2020 13:36

I was a little too young when they were around, but on reflection I’d say Spandau Ballet.

abricotine · 17/10/2020 13:36

It’s a quality problem to have but I still love Duran Duran music. Spandau definitely throw back now. Went to Duran concert not a million years ago and Mark Ronson was on stage with them. They were great even the newer stuff. And Simon is still so hot. So YABU.

@SquashedSpring - thats as helpful as people who leave Amazon reviews saying that they haven't opened/tried the product yet! Grin

CherryBlossomPink · 17/10/2020 13:38

Spandau Ballet - massive fan in my teenage years ♥️

Iamthewombat · 17/10/2020 13:38

NEVER. It’s like saying that Panda Pops are better than Diet Coke. Duran Duran shall never vanquished be. Not by Spandau Ballet anyway!

nitgel · 17/10/2020 13:40

Both awful. I liked Japan Wink

Me too. I was deeply in love with Steve Norman Grin
Al1langdownthecleghole · 17/10/2020 13:43

Ahem Lasagnelady, John was mine.

SteeperThanHell · 17/10/2020 13:44

Absolutely not!

celticmissey · 17/10/2020 13:44

Yes, liked them both but Spandau were my favourite...particularly Martin Kemp...

I know, I'm sorry Blush.

Okay, well, I'll unabstain. Overall I disliked Spandau Ballet's music more than I disliked Duran Durans, but then I did used to like 'To cut a long story short', whereas I don't remember liking any of Duran Durans songs so... I just don't know which way to go...

Um, can I vote for the Human League?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/10/2020 13:46

I'd say Duran Duran. I know their songs more. I only really know True and Gold from Spandau Ballet.

Mollscroll · 17/10/2020 13:46

Spandau. Passes the karaoke test.

OllysArmy · 17/10/2020 13:47

Always Spandau Ballet for me (I am the perfect age) best friend was Duran Duran. Never managed to see them live, had tickets but was ill and couldn't go.

Crocky · 17/10/2020 13:48

Duran!

MrsGrindah · 17/10/2020 13:51

Duran Duran without question. How many Bond themes did Spandau have eh? Answer me that!
( runs off to check if she’s right)

BobbyGentry · 17/10/2020 13:52

Not so fun fact: Spandau was the name of a prison in WWII Germany. “Spandau Ballet” describes the jerking movement of a hanging victim on the end of a rope

FlouncerInDenial · 17/10/2020 13:53

I'm with you @MrsGrindah, but to be fair a view to a kill was pretty shit

hopelessbusiness · 17/10/2020 13:54

Duran Duran, any day.
Still hoping Roger Taylor will come to his senses and marry me. I've only been waiting 35 years...

billybagpuss · 17/10/2020 13:55

Spandau every time. Although I did see the bottom of Simon le Bon’s boat when it capsized in Falmouth.

lorn195 · 17/10/2020 13:56

Spandau Ballet ❤️. I always had a huge crush on Martin Kemp and my bedroom wall was covered in posters of them.
When I was working as an au pair in London, friends of mine knew them so I got to meet them many times.
I did feel sorry for them though, as I where I was working it was in Muswell Hill quite close to where Martin Kemp lived, and there were always small groups of girls hanging outside for photos and autographs.
