I appreciate that it this isn't the most pressing topic at the moment, but does anyone agree/disagree?

@MrsGrindah well yes but I wasn't naming her in case she was all incognito and doing undercover MN detective work Grin

gingercatsarebest · 17/10/2020 15:58

I cannot say just how much I hated spandau ballet .what awful dross. didn't really liked Duran back in the day, but I quite like them now. I always fancied roger taylor though!

elp30 · 17/10/2020 16:02

@nitgel

Yes! Japan all the way!

Glitterbiscuits · 17/10/2020 16:16

Does anyone remember the Pop Quiz special? Duran versus Spandau?

MrsGrindah · 17/10/2020 16:18

I do! I also remember buying the Smash Hits yearbook and finding out that both Nick and Roger had got married and being completely gutted.

Littlewhitedove · 17/10/2020 16:18

Duran Duran...without a doubt.

EyesOfABlueDog · 17/10/2020 16:22

Duran Duran always.
Met JT at his book signing. Nearly fainted lol
They are still together (minus Andy) & a new album is in the works.
#duranieforever

brittanyfairies · 17/10/2020 16:26

Duran Duran always. Only band I still love.

I didn't mind Spandau but hate True and Gold with a passion. Overplayed.

Wishingforanotherlife · 17/10/2020 16:27

Tony Hadley has a better voice than SLB but I think Duran had more hits and remembered tunes. I liked both. Saw Duran when I was 14 and also in the last few years - they were great both times. I think the members of both bands have aged very well. John Taylor though - seriously still dreamily hot. And a damn fine bass player too.
I was a fan club member and still have all the merch (hoping it's worth a fortune someday).

3catsandcounting · 17/10/2020 16:38

I call on @Sparklingbrook to settle the argument!

MajesticWhine · 17/10/2020 16:41

Duran Duran for me

Longdistance · 17/10/2020 16:44

I was 8 years old, when a bunch of teenagers all asked me who I liked. Duran Duran or Wham!
I lied and said Duran Duran to look ‘cool’ I actually loved Wham! GM 4 ever ❤️

LoseLooseLucy · 17/10/2020 16:49

Rob Lowe usually lures Sparkling out 🤔

burblish · 17/10/2020 16:49

Tony Hadley clearly has a better singing voice than Simon Le Bon - but it’s still Duran Duran all the way! Better songs, better vibe, better looking...!

Redcrayons · 17/10/2020 16:54

You can only like one, it’s the rules of the 80s

Duran Duran, or more specifically John Taylor for me back in the day. But I secretly also loved Spandau Ballet, mostly for Martin Kemp.

I loved a 80s big haired pretty boy.

hopelessbusiness · 17/10/2020 16:58

Did anybody fancy Andy? Seen lovers of SLB, 'my' Roger, and of course Nick and John... anybody??

PoloNeckKnickers · 17/10/2020 17:02

Yes!!! When I saw them live in '81 I was 14 and the sight of a shirtless Andy Taylor in leather trousers was an awakening!

isthismylifenow · 17/10/2020 17:02

Ooohhhh this is a tough one 🤔

Like them both, but going to have to go with Spandeau Ballet here just because I'm now reminiscing about the last dance at the school disco. We had a competiton who could get to slow dance with the hottest guy in the school.

I did... Once.

I'm sure my older brother rigged it for me though.

I love all 80s music so it doesnt take much to get me torn.

isthismylifenow · 17/10/2020 17:05

@LoseLooseLucy

Rob Lowe usually lures Sparkling out 🤔
😂

Lured me out too.

If only I could have slowed danced with hunky Rob.... Sigh

PawFives · 17/10/2020 17:08

Definitely Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet only had one good song (To cut a long story short).

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 17/10/2020 17:10

SB and DD can fight it out for second place, but all that really matters is that Wham were top.

nosswith · 17/10/2020 17:11

Other bands and groups were available in their era. Gary Kemp is working with Nick Mason and I saw them last year.

TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun · 17/10/2020 17:11

Tony had the voice, it's true.

DollyDoneMore · 17/10/2020 17:11

ABC better than both.

WokesFromHome · 17/10/2020 17:12

No way. Spandau Ballet were total vanilla. Duran Duran were fantastic. I was madly in love with Roger Taylor.
Have you seen the video for Girls on Film? Spandau Ballet were so tame and naice.
