just that really - there's one near me but I've never been into it - is it good, is it expensive, do you use it? Looking for recommendations

They sell fresh food, bread, salad, fruit, milk, a selection of toiletries, crisps, biscuits, etc

TidyOmlette · 17/10/2020 13:28

It sells almost everything. Lots of fresh food, veg fruit plus special buys and cleaning supplies. Alcohol and even branded frozen food.

Ours is local but isn’t easily accessed due to opening hours but it’s not bad

dementedpixie · 17/10/2020 13:28

I like the greggs frozen pastries and ds likes their pakora chicken strips.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/10/2020 13:29

Sell most things, I use then all the time for my weekly shop.

Why dont you pop down and look or look online?

What an odd post. Cant work out if you are trying to get positive feedback for Iceland or to get people to be derogatory.

Are you being paid to post?

dementedpixie · 17/10/2020 13:30

We have a Food Warehouse locally which is like Iceland but on a larger scale (same company)

FatGirlShrinking · 17/10/2020 13:30

They do have fresh and cupboard foods as well as toiletries but the choice is more limited than Asda/Tesco etc

NiceGerbil · 17/10/2020 13:30

?

Why not go in and have a look?!

ChaChaCha2012 · 17/10/2020 13:30

Their own brand stuffed crust pizzas are awesome.

Soubriquet · 17/10/2020 13:30

Most food is frozen but they do do fresh fruit, milk and other cupboard staples

It’s just the opposite of a supermarket

They have lots of fresh and ambient with little frozen whereas Iceland have lots of frozen and little fresh/ambient

Halliehallie9828 · 17/10/2020 13:30

Just go in and look

EvilPea · 17/10/2020 13:31

They do fresh stuff too.
Quality varying, I go a few times a year. If I had freezer space I would go more as their chopped veg, corn on the cob, frozen flavoured rice / quinoa is good value.
Their breaded chicken strips are really really good and better than m and s / waitrose.

Ice cream aisle is always a treat.

burnoutbabe · 17/10/2020 13:32

its great for cheap frozen food (and has some weird expensive fancy meats in the SOuth London stores i visit)

Also has store cupboard basics, but i tend to avoid those, seem to more expensive than aldi for same. but fine in an emergency.

picklemewalnuts · 17/10/2020 13:32

I don't rate the fresh food,, though I'd pick up something I needed while there for other stuff.

It sells lots of processed frozen food, and some really good basics- veg, meat, fish etc.

I look out for vouchers and deals in the run up to Christmas.

I've had a prepped frozen turkey from there several times. I was a 'everything from scratch and fancy' Christmas cook, but circumstances forced me into shortcuts and I've never gone back! Goosefat roast potatoes and parsnips, and a ready to cook turkey joint make the day really easy and reliable.

vanillandhoney · 17/10/2020 13:33

Well, if you went in, you'd know that wasn't the case Hmm

WorraLiberty · 17/10/2020 13:35

Even if you can't be bothered to go in and look, surely you could click on their website?

The last time I went in there (probably 10 months ago) they sold fresh food.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/10/2020 13:39

The salt and vinegar fish goujons are a thing of beauty. Their premium mince pies are also really good.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 17/10/2020 13:40

I shop their occasionally, not for my main shop.

Pros

  • all their own brand is palm oil free
  • A lot of their cheaper stuff is ‘inadvertantly dairy free’, ie not advertised as such but no dairy in the pastry/garlic bread etc. They also do a decent range of vegan.
  • They do some nice and unusual frozen things if you take time to look through, including unusual meats such as rabbit or kangaroo
  • in the non-frozen they do most basics, and a good range of junk food (crisps/cakes etc) if you’re in the mood for that.
  • excellent during lock down because everyone else forgot they existed - plenty of delivery slots and reliable.

Cons

  • not much range in fresh, often just one of each thing.
-a lot of space given over to things like weightwatcher ready meals which are fairly horrible.
  • concentrates on standard frozen fare so not v.healthy.
grapewine · 17/10/2020 13:42

YABU. Go in there and look. Weird post.

Lockheart · 17/10/2020 13:43

Why would you post here instead of looking on their website?

That will tell you what you need to know.

I’m sure I heard their mince pies won the best mince pies this year
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/10/2020 13:57

www.iceland.co.uk/

You do know how to use the internet?Hmm

HotPatootiebootie · 17/10/2020 14:18

Iceland own brands are not just palm oil free, they are also non genetically modified and are aiming to have 100% recyclable/plastic free packaging by the end of the year .

The own brand stuffed crust pizzas are the bomb. The hot dog crust is amazing but they are all excellent quality. I got a cheeseburger sauce stuffed crust pizza and the save went all the way through the base in a giant spiral and it tasted like a Big Mac! Mind brown 😍. Their luxury Ready meals are great for a quick meal on the go too. £2.70 and the king prawn Alfredo, chicken makhani and beef stifado is just perfection. The choice of chicken nuggets etc is brilliant. Giant 3l of vimto cordial for £3. The cheese isn't terribly priced but is pretty basic for toasties and pizza etc . I get a shop from them once a month for the best bits out of I know I can't be arsed going out because I'm under the weather or it's raining badly etc.

Lowkee · 17/10/2020 14:22

I never knew they did deliveries until lockdown forced me to venture forth into the great unknown. Perhaps the OP didn't know either.
What they do best is their frozen food, but you could get most essentials in there too, things like ham, cheese, bread, butter, toilet rolls etc.

longwayoff · 17/10/2020 14:39

They are reliable for deliveries and rarely out of stock. I use them every 4 weeks or so to buy basics, tinned tomatoes, fish, milk, etc. Very useful if we go to second lockdown.
