just that really - there's one near me but I've never been into it - is it good, is it expensive, do you use it? Looking for recommendations

I buy the fresh steaks as they're leaner and tastier than other supermarket versions.

Proudboomer · 17/10/2020 14:52

I find their fresh meat really good. Their minted lamb chops are small but tasty and quite cheap at £3 a pack of 4.
The small packs of cooked chicken are great and at £1 a pack the sweet chilli one makes a great lunch mixed with some rice.
The double packs of bacon are good and cheaper than the main supermarkets and staples like eggs, milk and butter are all good.

Poppingnostopping · 17/10/2020 15:09

They are good for lockdown deliveries, seem less overwhelmed than the major supermarkets, and sell a basic range of fresh products- they kept us going anyway! I don't buy their frozen stuff beyond some frozen green beans and salmon. That's it.

Poppingnostopping · 17/10/2020 15:10

Are you actually an advertising person from Iceland, trying to promote them on the internet so asking a disingenuously open question that people will then answer positively? If so- clever!

GirlCrush · 17/10/2020 15:14

@AndNoneForGretchenWieners those salt and vinegar strips are to die for!!

SwedishK · 17/10/2020 15:18

First time I used them was during lockdown as they had no queue. I found quite a lot I liked actually. Love Gino's pizzas, lots of ice cream (of course) and frozen fish, prawns etc. The non-frozen stuff I buy from there is stuff like passata, rice, sugar, snacks and cheese sometimes. It's good value for money but I couldn't do all my shopping there.

BikeRunSki · 17/10/2020 15:24

They have a great range of frozen veggie ready meals

Storyoftonight · 17/10/2020 15:25
Hmm
BikeRunSki · 17/10/2020 15:28

They used to be (1980s!) Bejam, which was a frozen food specialist, so if you are old enough the 80s, then that might be why you think they only sell frozen food. But you know, shops charge. Iceland were the first high street supermarket to have only free range eggs.

Beketaten · 17/10/2020 15:30

Their No Bull veggie burgers are great! Good for frozen vegetables and fruit smoothie mixes. Not bad for basic cleaning products, condiments, fruit and vegetables. Sometimes they have giant Toblerones for £2.

SummerHouse · 17/10/2020 15:32

If this is a marketing thread it's worked on me! I am so going. I have been before but read with interest some of the posts e.g. palm oil free, dairy free, vegan references. Thank you to those who posted. Probably a year since I last went but I remember fondly the hash brown chips!

Polly2345 · 17/10/2020 15:36

They sell everything but with a strong emphasis on frozen stuff.

They're cheap.

Polly2345 · 17/10/2020 15:36

...compared to other supermarkets.

PodgeBod · 17/10/2020 15:36

If you do a shop in store they will actually bag it up and deliver it home for you the same day, which is really handy.

Most of the frozen stuff is nice. I avoid their fresh stuff, the chicken in particular I dont find good quality. Good prices on name brand store cupboard items.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 17/10/2020 15:38

Just look online? they have a website....

maddiemookins16mum · 17/10/2020 15:40

It’s marvellous. You often find big brand names with good offers too....Hellmans, Felix, Heinz. I could quite easily do my weekly shop in Iceland if I chose to.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 17/10/2020 15:41

They were the only place I could get a delivery from in lockdown. DS1 loves their veggie sausage rolls.
I didn't think the flavoured fish mentioned by PPs were that amazing, but i can't remember what flavour we had. Maybe I'll try the salt and vinegar ones next time.

Doodar · 17/10/2020 15:43

great frozen smoothie mixes
fish pie fish selection
frozen risotto
soya beans

Hahaha88 · 17/10/2020 15:47

I couldn't do a full shop in there, it is mostly frozen /processed foods. Yes there is a range of fresh meats, fruit, veg, dairy produce but I find it limited and more expensive than going to a larger supermarket. Mostly only brands in the cupboard food aisle too so again cheaper shopping elsewhere

ColonSemiColon · 17/10/2020 15:54

I thought them at too until I moved near them. Although there’s a limited selection of fresh food, the stuff they do is really good and well priced. Olives, halloumi, cheese etc. They do some really nice frozen quinoa too. I don’t think I could use it as the only place I shopped for more than a couple of weeks, but it’s very good for what it does.

Spongeface · 17/10/2020 15:56

After being out all day I now have to put my day clothes on and haul myself to try that pizza mentioned by pp.... Sounds too good

Hardbackwriter · 17/10/2020 15:57

It was the closest big shop to where I used to live, and while it does sell fresh food I found it pretty crap in terms of selection (the actual food was fine) if, like us, you don't buy much frozen stuff except veg.

Lolaloveslemonade · 17/10/2020 16:00

I go into Iceland for basics when I can’t face the bigger supermarkets.
I rarely buy anything frozen there - other than ice lollies and frozen fruit for smoothies.

Go in OP! 😂

nevernotstruggling · 17/10/2020 16:01

They sell the costa coffee pods at about half the price they sell in Costa

IggyAce · 17/10/2020 16:02

Great range of frozen party foods. Regular buys for us: Greggs steak bakes, coated chicken strips, fries, majestic (magnum copies). Definitely worth a look I think you will be surprised by the range of stuff they sell.
