Help! I'm in a holiday cottage and can't understand these oven symbols! Chickens been in the oven 40 mins and still looks raw. I've never seen these symbols in my life- they are not universal! Which one is the fan oven!?

I was using number 1, but it didn't work! The stupid guidebook says no. 3 but that just seems to switch on the grill!

This is a Lamona oven by the way.

I'll never understand why the owners don't put basic instructions on how to use things in holiday lets.

I have an under-the-bench double oven and one of the ovens is not fan-forced. It takes an age to heat and cook properly. I usually preheat it for about an hour on the highest temperature setting before I put food in. I then drop the temperature but still keep it about 20 deg hotter than the recipe states.

Chuck the chicken and get a takeaway

Charleyhorses · 16/10/2020 21:48

Second takeaway suggestion.

We used to have a Lamona oven and it took an age to warm up and also to cook anything, they are cheap ovens and I wouldn’t ever want one again. I think you’ll just have to wait it out, I’d also suggest turning it up a bit higher as there is no fan in operation.

Is the clock set? I've been in holiday cottages where the oven won't work until the clock is set.

I've found a Lamona oven instruction PDF but not sure what your version is. Page 13 (p14 of 28pg PDF) seems to be what's needed. Hopefully your oven has already got itself to the right temperature by now and your chicken is cooking away deliciously :)

Check page 14 (p15 of 28) to make sure any timed operation is off (symbol is an A and something that looks like a lidded pan wafting heat above it).

Correcting myself seconds later with double square brackets ;)

@Bootikin yes of course, I googled the lamona manual before posing on here and the symbols were not the same!! I posted on here in last resort desperation!

Also, the internet is so shit in this holiday let that after 30mins I gave up trying to download a pdf of the instructions! @JoBrodie so kind of you, thank you! But the doc wouldn't open for me! Also there's no A button. I think this is a really old model.

Right! We gave up! The chicken will sadly be binned and we have just eaten our own body weight in cheese and biscuits. Thank goodness we had those! (First world problems)!!
