Help! I'm in a holiday cottage and can't understand these oven symbols! Chickens been in the oven 40 mins and still looks raw. I've never seen these symbols in my life- they are not universal! Which one is the fan oven!?

I was using number 1, but it didn't work! The stupid guidebook says no. 3 but that just seems to switch on the grill!

This is a Lamona oven by the way.

The one you have it on there is correct. Is there a separate dial for temperature too? Our oven has one like that to switch on the correct oven and we have to move another dial to set the temperature.

Xiaoxiong · 16/10/2020 21:17

Doesn't appear to be a fan setting (there would be a little three bladed fan in the middle). That setting should be the correct one for a normal non-fan oven. what temperature have you put it on?

mnahmnah · 16/10/2020 21:18

The one it is on is full oven. Top left is grill. Bottom two are heat coming from top only or bottom only. There doesn’t seem to be a fan option, so not a fan oven? Can you see a fan in there?

nannynick · 16/10/2020 21:18

No fan symbol so may not be a fan oven.
What other dials are there?

minisoksmakehardwork · 16/10/2020 21:18

It looks like there should be a separate dial for the temperature. We have an oven which has a dial like this.

RawChicken · 16/10/2020 21:18

Yep temperatures on 200 now. So I was right- it's the oven that's broke SadAngry

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 16/10/2020 21:19

Yeah there should be a second knob for temperature. Usually I would put chicken on between 180c and 200c.

throwaway100000 · 16/10/2020 21:19

Might sound obvious but is the oven actually on? There might be a switch or button somewhere

RawChicken · 16/10/2020 21:19

Yeah we did the second knob and it's warm inside but the chickens still raw... perhaps it's just a very slow oven!

Is there A timer? I have to turn a timer on for oven to go on

dementedpixie · 16/10/2020 21:20

It isn't a fan oven but you have the correct setting for bog standard oven. You should have a temperature dial too

namechange202086 · 16/10/2020 21:20

Sometimes you have to mess about with the clock/timer buttons for it to start working. I usually just press them until the noise starts, although it's not that type of oven.

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/10/2020 21:20

Yes, look, for a switch on the wall.

Shoppingwithmother · 16/10/2020 21:20

I was going to ask if there is another dial too. Also it’s not on some funny timer setting, or has just been switched on at the wall and the clock needs to be set before it will work?
I have found that at cottages quite often

nannynick · 16/10/2020 21:20

Is there a digital timer with a flashing A? If so then the oven may not work with the A flashing. I've had that happen with an oven before.

picklemewalnuts · 16/10/2020 21:21

Is it at all warm? It could be that the top or bottom element is broken, so it can't reach temperature.

Try the grill, you'll see very fast if that works. You can use it to heat the oven and cook the food- it will respond to the temp dial as well.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 16/10/2020 21:21

That's the normal oven symbol.

Does it feel hot? What temp have you set it at?

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/10/2020 21:21

Oh sorry, seen it’s warm. Maybe it does take ages to heat up.

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/10/2020 21:21

Or it’s in Fahrenheit not Celsius?

Fatted · 16/10/2020 21:22

Is there another dial with a timer?

I used to have an oven that wouldn't come on if the timer wasn't on, even if the temperature and element dials were on.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 16/10/2020 21:23

Sorry! I typed that, then had a chat with someone and then posted it so cross posted with you OP!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 16/10/2020 21:23

Maybe its not Celsius and should be at 400?

Bootikin · 16/10/2020 21:23

Why haven’t you contacted the people from whom you are renting the holiday cottage? And / or google the info direct. Bizarre.

bethany39 · 16/10/2020 21:28

Does it have a number/name anywhere? So you can Google "lamona oven (number) manual"? Worked for me several times in holiday cottages!

catchyjem · 16/10/2020 21:28

My mum's Lamona oven takes a long time to heat up, we have to put it on a good 20 mins or more before putting in the food.
