To ask if anyone else has a really heavy day during their period?

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:01

I've always had heavy periods. Around 100ml per day on the first couple of days, 30-50ml days 3 and 4, then lessening on days 5 and 6. That's about 5-6 soaked pads on the heavy days.

I'm 44 now and day 1 is much lighter (1-2 large pads) but then part of day 2 is a bloodbath. I have about half a day when I am running to the bathroom and passing large clots. So about 100-150ml in half a day.

But after the crazy half-day it slows right down and the next few days are very light.

So total volume per period is in fact less than it used to be, but it all comes in one go.

Is it just me???

Yes Day 2 is dreadful. Very heavy .
I’m fascinated by how you can tell volume my ml etc .
If speaking to the doctor I say “lots” I don’t know how to measure

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:07

Mooncup! It's not that I have an eye for it or anything! Grin

Yes I am having that horrible heavy day today!

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 16/10/2020 18:10

Its not just you, I'm the same. Light first day, total bloodbath second one (where I don't stray too far from home or a toilet) and then light the next day and almost nothing the last 2. Started after I turned 40 (46 now)

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:11

Thanks for the replies.

Sorry others are suffering this too. Do you also have large clots? Can't stand the things - yuck!

PS. I am assuming it's not fibroids/polyps etc as this heavy bleeding is just for one day (half a day actually), but has anyone been told otherwise?

I’m the same as Cake including when it started

MrsWildermac · 16/10/2020 18:13

Yes, me. I ended up anaemic from it and after some particularly bad ones got sent for an ultrasound where they discovered a melon sized fibroid. Apparently even a tiny fibroid can cause menorrhagia.

VintageStitchers · 16/10/2020 18:15

I used to wear a tampon with a pad and be changing very frequently and still had accidents. I hated it so I had a Mirena Coil fitted when I was 44 and my periods dwindled to zero within 6 months. Such a relief!

Icanflyhigh · 16/10/2020 18:15

Yes days 2 and 3 for me. I'm 41 regular and as clockwork, but days 2 and 3 are basically spent sat still aas every time I move I just flood.

ThedietstartsonMonday · 16/10/2020 18:16

I do, I have one really heavy day and another relatively heavy one. Clots, gushing out...hate it. Since I had my daughter I can't stand wearing tampons (used to use them all the time before, now they are just I'm comfy) and I tried the moon cup but I felt like it was messy putting it in because I was so heavy...will have to give it another go maybe. I would say on my heavy day I can't really plan much as I have to change my pad too often so it's annoying!

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:17

@MrsWildermac Was your heavy bleeding also only for one day per cycle?

OP posts:
Tomorrowillbeachicken · 16/10/2020 18:18

Sounds like you are perimenopausal

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:18

@ThedietstartsonMonday Yes, I've been the same - avoiding a Mooncup because of the mess. Today I thought I would give it a shot again as I just hate the feel of those clots coming out. It meant I was able to measure the volume for the first time, and it was 30ml x 3 in as many hours. Yikes!

I'm 33 and I have the coil btw

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 16/10/2020 18:19

I have pcos do mind are like a week plus of bloodbath. Thank the lord for cups

ThedietstartsonMonday · 16/10/2020 18:19

I would be interested to try it again so I could measure it too!

MrsWildermac · 16/10/2020 18:20

@hoolydooly - the first two days but the rest of the time barely anything!

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:21

@MrsWildermac Thanks for replying. That's a worry, as I was told by an online GP that fibroids would cause heavy bleeding for longer than just half a day to a day. Hmm....

OP posts:
Terrace58 · 16/10/2020 18:22

Not just you.

QuentinWinters · 16/10/2020 18:24

Yes. Only just started with clots so went to GP, got a scan and have been diagnosed with adenomyosis. Its pretty common in women in their 40s apparently.
I use a cup too and have to change it 2 hourly on heaviest day

Soundbyte · 16/10/2020 18:25

Day 2 is always my absolute worst too. Additionally I always retain a good 7lb of water during my bleed, regardless of sodium intake and all the tips to stop bloat etc. Once I’m done with the period itself I’ve got a 24 hour window of virtually non stop peeing. I’m so ready to be done with it all tbh.

DisneyMillie · 16/10/2020 18:28

Yep - I’m 40 and it’s been like this since my c-section with my youngest which totally changed everything for me

worksleep · 16/10/2020 18:29

Mine is also in the 2nd day and I am 45 and not been feeling myself so I do wonder if it's peri menopause. Planning to see the gp actually...
