To ask if anyone else has a really heavy day during their period?

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:01

I've always had heavy periods. Around 100ml per day on the first couple of days, 30-50ml days 3 and 4, then lessening on days 5 and 6. That's about 5-6 soaked pads on the heavy days.

I'm 44 now and day 1 is much lighter (1-2 large pads) but then part of day 2 is a bloodbath. I have about half a day when I am running to the bathroom and passing large clots. So about 100-150ml in half a day.

But after the crazy half-day it slows right down and the next few days are very light.

So total volume per period is in fact less than it used to be, but it all comes in one go.

Is it just me???

@QuentinWinters Thanks for the link. Are there not usually pain and other symptoms with that?

Yes. Day 2 and 3 are awful for me. I have to take spare clothes to work incase I leak.

Mother40 · 16/10/2020 18:31

I'm 43 and have this too. Then heavy day is often so bad that I feel uncomfortable going out much. I'm not working right now, but it does sorry me if I had it like this at work. Nice to know I'm not the only one who has this!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/10/2020 18:33

35 here and I always wake on the morning of day2 to what dh and I call "shark attack" in the bed. Ive tried everything and am now resigned to the Big Bleed Day. Even in the shower that morning it's scary.

hoolydooly · 16/10/2020 18:33

Gosh, so many of us with the same issue! It's horrible, isn't it? Makes you feel like you can't leave the house, plus I can't predict which day my day 2 will be as cycles are 23-27 days long - no doubt I am not alone in that either.

Has anyone else seen their GP or are you just putting up with it as it's only heavy for one day?

I did talk to the doctors once who did some blood tests. They showed nothing wrong, although not sure if I should have had follow up tests. I find it really.hard to book holidays in advance too as would not want to be away of at an airport during this time.

Silversun83 · 16/10/2020 18:38

Same here and has also only started since youngest born two years ago (also csection). Really heavy day two then another heavyish day then fairly light, then just spotting.. But the light days/spotting last another 4/5 so whole period can be eight days in total!

Frequency also increased to every 24/25 days (which they were IIRC in my teens and early 20s, but they then were every 27-31 days).

🤷‍♀️

FecktheBoss · 16/10/2020 18:39

Me to, partly why I'm loving wfh atm

yearinyearout · 16/10/2020 18:42

I used to until I had the mirena coil, now I hardly get a period at all, it's great!

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 16/10/2020 18:42

I've been having the same.
Day two involves hourly pad and tampon changes and I just sit on the loo instead when i can. Causes huge problems for work and for travelling anywhere. I was supposed to be on a plane on day 2 in August and I don't know how I would have managed. I'm 40 by the way

QueenOllie · 16/10/2020 18:43

Yep, usually day 2/3 but they're heavy all the way through. I went to have a coil fitted on day 4 and apologised as I had cramps and they were "still? On day 4?"
I thought it was normal to have cramps all the way through!
Day 1 light, 2/3 bloodbath, 4-8 not too bad

doodlejump1980 · 16/10/2020 18:44

Yup me, although it’s usually on days 4-7 where I flood heavily. It’s horrendous. I’m currently getting two periods a month, each lasting 12-14 days. Blood have come back fine. No fibroids or cysts seen on abdominal scans. They’ve been utterly horrendous since having my twins by csection 5 years ago. Going on the pill hasn’t helped. Made me stupidly dizzy. Roll on the menopause.

QueenOllie · 16/10/2020 18:45

If anyone is in the market for a reusable pad that copes, I can recommend this. Yes it's giant and a bit bulky but I have never ever leaked despite gushing when standing up/sneezing
Dead easy to wash, I stick it on the rinse cycle before adding everything else

SnugglySnerd · 16/10/2020 18:46

Same here. Always Day 2. It was the same in my teens when I started then it settled down until I had my dts and a c-section at 37. Now they are really bad on Day 2 again for about half a day and then go really light.

Snackasaurus · 16/10/2020 18:47

Day One is usually the worst for me! It depends on when I start during the day which determines how bad it is going to be though (strange, I know!)

If I start during the middle of the night, the cramps are horrific and I'm usually very heavy! I'm usually very emotional too but this may be due to the lack of sleep.

If I start during the day, I can usually cope with the pain by continuing to 'get on with it'.

Have you spoken to your Dr about this? They may be able to help :)

WhatzTheCraic · 16/10/2020 18:48

Always day 2 for me.

coconuttyhead · 16/10/2020 18:50

Day 2 and 3 for me - accompanied by relentless headache Sad

Phillipa12 · 16/10/2020 18:52

yep, day 2 of period is an absolute bloodbath with clots then practically nothing for a few days. I have had blood tests for peri menopause as I'm only 44 and I'm not there yet but gp says that my body is gearing up for it, and identical twin is in peri menopause and has been for 2 years. Have also had scans to check for fibroids and nothing.

icequeen34 · 16/10/2020 18:52

Day 1-2 are always super heavy for me. I'm on the pill but had a similar pattern on my natural cycle too. I've just invested in some reusable period pants and I darent use them on day 1-2 🙈

Dmtush · 16/10/2020 18:54

Me too but I have two days of bloodbath, two days of pretty grim bleeding and two days of sod all. I’ve also got period pains that cripple me so I’m having endometrial ablation next week and a laparoscopy to remove endometriosis scars. Can’t wait to be free of it!

juliej00ls · 16/10/2020 19:00

Yes but I’ve insisted on seeing a gynaecologist to get some help. I bring changes of clothes .... wear a lot of black .... and a special cushion. So far I’ve not had a complete disaster but it’s a matter of time. Im currently waiting on an ablation as the coil didn’t work. I’m 47. @Dmtush good luck

Neighneigh · 16/10/2020 19:04

Same here, I hit 40 this year and things are definitely changing, becoming more heavy on day 2. Has anyone else experienced crazy ovulation pain/swelling too? Like can't sit down one day mid cycle crazy?

Sarjest · 16/10/2020 19:06

Day 2 by far the heaviest for me!

QuentinWinters · 16/10/2020 19:17

@QuentinWinters Thanks for the link. Are there not usually pain and other symptoms with that?
No pain for me, I get golf ball size clots and bloating. I also get bad PMT too so basically am fed up with it all at the moment

QuentinWinters · 16/10/2020 19:19

oh - I got a great tip.on here to take ibuprofen and that really does reduce the bleeding. I take it before I go to bed to minimise "shark attack". Never knew it had that effect before.
