Just no. STOP!!!!

OP posts:
TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 16/10/2020 14:22

YANBU.

It's so wanky (unless used in its traditional sense)

tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 14:23

@iklboo

'Sourced' - you went to the fucking shop / bought online. You did not lead a trek through the jungle.
Hahaha, so true. I sourced my hand-picked lunch ingredients from my local independent organic farm shop chain supermarket, then curated the contents of my fridge to create an artisan protein plate.
tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 14:25

@TheOrigRights Yeah but have you curated your ear?

cologne4711 · 16/10/2020 14:27

@AuntieJoyce

Curated is for museum exhibitions only
Yes.

Though when I first used it in the sense of "selected" I have to confess I jumped on the bandwagon and used it in relation to choosing items to feature on a Twitter feed.

Forgive me Grin

Along with "gifted" and "impacted" - and "insightful", it's a nonsense word.

We select or choose things, we give presents, we affect things and presentations provide insight.

'Sourced' - you went to the fucking shop / bought online. You did not lead a trek through the jungle

Ha ha, loved tectonic's reply to this too!

tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 14:29

I'd also like to take issue with "project managed" when used in lifestyle/property magazines to describe people who've done up their houses. So basically you phoned a few builders, then chose some decorations and furniture that you'd like to have in your house, and bought them. That doesn't make you a Project Manager.

Shrunkenhead · 16/10/2020 14:30

It's on a par with 'sourced'. No, you bought something from a shop. You did not source it.

Squirrel26 · 16/10/2020 14:30

I fucking hate ‘artisan’. Even when it’s used correctly. For some reason it really sets my teeth on edge.

movingonup20 · 16/10/2020 14:33

Posh word for put together/assembled to cover up for the fact it's all they could manage!

Museums are the only legitimate use. Oh and yes artisan is another pet hate of mine too - used to describe mass produced crap in posher (usually black, silver and gold) packaging at a higher price point, it may taste worse but someone person on minimum wage sprinkled seeds on it just before it went in the oven you know!

Shrunkenhead · 16/10/2020 14:33

If you ever listen to these people on the phone the conversation basically says nothing about anything "So, Geoff, I'll send that over. I've sourced the statement piece and I'll email it to Frank, asap." Throw in some some blue sky thinking and thrashing things out on the next pointless zoom and I could totally do that job, while enjoying my artisan toast

tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 14:35

while enjoying my artisan toast

Topped with smashed avocado, presumably? Grin

Anoisagusaris · 16/10/2020 14:37

Can I add:

Haul

Call out

Gifted

‘This one’ (on SM posts about a friend etc)

Pictures on SM with captions starting with ‘When’ and then an incomplete sentence.

SomeoneTellBorisHeHasDandruff · 16/10/2020 14:37

YANBU - I had no idea this was a thing now, but now I do know I don’t like it! It sounds so pretentious when talking about a few earrings or whatever.

Anoisagusaris · 16/10/2020 14:38

@tectonicplates don’t you mean smashed avo?

Xiaoxiong · 16/10/2020 14:39

It's the new "edit".

The Autumn Edit = you chose some things that seemed a bit autumnal

CatsAndEyeliner · 16/10/2020 14:39

See I don’t have a problem with it.

If someone has used their skills and put time, thought and effort into a collection and the presentation of that collection.

What other word would you use?

tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 14:40
@tectonicplates don’t you mean smashed avo?
Ah yes of course. I'm clearly not pretentious enough for this stuff Grin

AuntieJoyce · 16/10/2020 14:45

@TheOrigRights

You crack on. Curate your scientific data to your heart’s content Grin

endofthecorridoor · 16/10/2020 14:53

@MadisonAvenue

YA most definitely NBU!

It’s on the list with “artisan” and “ reaching out”.

all of these have my teeth on edge !!

and the people that use them think they are terribly clever. Just off to curate my Instagram page and reach out to my followers....

ToastyCrumpet · 16/10/2020 14:57

@CatsAndEyeliner organised, compiled, selected.

N0tthe0nlyfruit · 16/10/2020 14:58

Oooh I'm do glad someone raised this, it's been annoying me each time I see it.

It's right up there with previously fashionable overused "adjectives" for announcements and promo's, such as:

Signature
Pamper
Boutique
Bespoke

Mochudubh · 16/10/2020 14:59

In one of the meetings I minute, "surfacing" is used a lot. It sounds wanky to me but as I've no idea how to translate it I have to let it stand.

Mochudubh · 16/10/2020 15:00

They're not talking about whales or anything, I think it kind of means "finding"

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 16/10/2020 15:01

Can I add Circa?

LunaNorth · 16/10/2020 15:01
